News Another Fight at Magic Kingdom

Ive never worked for Disney. But i assume there are guidelines. A huge brawl where nobody is really getting hurt.. just make sure the other guests are safe. IF someone is going to die or is being hurt without fighting back might be look at differently than a mutual combatants situation. Also you have different security, you have cast members, and you have security.. if security is nearby they will usually break up anything. Cast members could prob be fired, but someone being attacked might still jump in depending on the person. I do wonder if security numbers have been cut with the other budget cuts. And that is something they would never announce due to lawsuit implications.

This is another side affect of living in a litigious society, when I started in Vegas 20+ years ago it was not uncommon to see security literally pick troublemakers up and toss them out the door, it also wasn’t uncommon to see Bartenders, Dealers, floor Supervisors, etc jump into a fight to break it up… none of those things happen anymore, if we see a fight we are forbidden (at risk of our job) from doing anything but calling security/managers, keeping bystanders away, and watching from a distance so we can write a statement and be interviewed by the police after it ends. It’s just not worth the risk of an employee being hurt or the company being sued because someone other than security (and now even security often wait for the police) touched someone.

Everyone wants security and the police to be everywhere and to instantly stop bad things from happening but the second they lay hands on anyone the phones are out, they are criticized for overreacting, and the lawsuits begin. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I don’t know about Florida or California but here in Nevada security can 100% detain people, they even wear cuffs on their belt to do it, only the police can take the cuffs off though (that’s our rule anyway), so if security puts you into cuffs in Vegas you’re going to jail.

And to take it a step further, now we blame even police for responding with agressive tactics to control unruly, ignorant, uneducated, violent criminals who have no fear at all or respect of authority. I can't imagine anyone would even want to be a police officer in 2022. We have mentally deranged people go after civilians and police with knives and even guns, and some, including our media, come out of the woodwork asking why the police didn't "shoot them in the leg". If they do the right thing, no one will have their back. Their leadership are spineless jellyfish, and the politicians are as well, if not outright corrupt themselves. Idiocracy.

Me and hubby quit going to Disney World because of the high prices. We just didn't think it was worth it anymore. Also sold our two DVC properties a few months ago. This video is showing exactly why we think this way. Where was the security and management? This could have gotten way out of hand and turned into a bigger, uglier debacle. This video shows the parks are definitely not being run right because security should have been on top of this. They usually were, in the past. The video is proof that things are definitely going downhill. Such a shame.

This has the video as I see the OPS video was removed.
It's awful, people acting like that on a vacation. But I have no idea how it started. I know this, that one guy went up and suckered punched a woman on that video. Ridiculous.
I have been in lines where it has gotten testy. I get mad when people do the "we just want to catch up with our mom". Sorry but if you aren't in line with her when. You get in line you are out of luck. But I never got so .ad about it I fought.
I think having a few cast members at stations throughout the line for attractions that draw heavy lines would help. I'd line cutters try that the person can tell them they have to wait in the line where they are and if party members are ahead those people will have to wait for them .
Whatever punishment is levied against the guests in the fight should also be thrown at the video maker for filming in portrait and not landscape.
j/k....but maybe not....

I think emergency preparedness is something Disney takes very seriously on many levels.

While the likelihood of general disturbances like this could be higher than other threats, the largest impact seems to be bad PR, not larger consequences to the company (not talking about the people involved, obviously they can be injured, but the company is not injured). I could see them spending resources on other areas or balancing visibility for response time.

As for physical security response, here is the link to what security officers can do in FL. For some factual accuracy.

Obviously Disney polices can go up to what the statues say or they can be more restrictive. I don’t believe there is a duty to act statue relating to security officers in FL.

I am still struggling to get past the fact they were staying at the Rivera for 2 weeks.

Another fight broke out in Fantasyland. Is it just me or is this becoming a frequent occurrence at the Magic Kingdom.

Wow. Just wow.

👏This 👏 is 👏 why 👏 we 👏 cannot 👏 have 👏 nice 👏things.

People act like trash.

I would have hoped the person returning in line to their family would have explained to a CM the situation and be waved/escort through to their family and but it sounds like the people in the red shorts were NOT understanding of the situation whether that happened or not.

We’ve seen people do that and let them by or have seen a family split up and tell them to go ahead of us to “cut” so they could be together.

Unreal.

Yup, but Disney’s priorities is to rename the BBB CM’s…

I'm not going to defend anyone fighting. Yes it happens more frequently than we know and honestly I'm surprised there isn't more instances shared.

I will say that Disney isn't doing people favors in regards to looking for a relaxing vacation anymore. Is that part of what is causing these fights? maybe not, but it isn't helping people stay calm either...it's one more stress point on top of many others

This apparently stemmed from where one family member forgot her phone in an ECV and went back to get it. The family in matching clothes apparently would not let her go back to her family and allegedly pushed her. As the family of the pushed woman left the attraction, the matching clothes family was waiting for them. At that time the fight broke out and both families decided to be jackholes and not just walk away...instead they continued to engage even when things appeared to calm down. The matching clothes family had 2 members arrested. The other family (originally accosted in line), was banned from the property. I'm assuming the matching clothes family was as well, further ruining the 6 year olds birthday. Let's hope that none of the 2 families are every allowed in a Disney park again.

Okay, I'm confused.

Pushed Lady's family was ahead of them in line, right? Otherwise there's no reason to block her? But the Matching Outfits Family was waiting for them when they got off? Did they ditch the line just to confront them?

I’m as guilty as anyone of grumbling to myself when having to squeeze aside so someone can cut/rejoin their group but you‘d have to be a serious a-hole to stop someone and an even bigger a-hole to wait for them at the exit. This is a serious mental issue!

I‘d love to know what goes through peoples minds to think it’s ok to act like this, is it a simple lack of common courtesy, lack of morals, an overinflated sense of self worth? Or is it as simple as odds, when 20 million people visit one place in a year you’re bound to have idiots who don’t know how to act in public eventually run into each other.

It’s my understanding the person who went to retrieve her phone was 14 yo. If so, makes blocking her even worse. She’s a kid.
