Another Disney "princess" movie....

Have I mentioned the HM queue, the new ghost apparitions at the end of the HM ride, the new Pooh M&G, the replacing of Herbie with Lightening McQueen in LMA?

But, why bother? This was supposedly a thread about "princess" movies, after all.....:brick:

Since we're just free associating at this point, I'll also mention the oft-overlooked point that if you actually go to any of those expensive princess meals or wait in the exceptionally long lines for the popular princess meet and greets, you'll find plenty of Y chromosomes in the mix. And many of these boys don't seem to have gotten the memo that they are supposed to be devestated by the presence of girls.

But then many of the boys in Fantasyland at any given time have a higher level of emotional maturity than many of the posters around here...

I'll free-associate a little more: At one of the supposed "princess" meals who do you come across but none other than Prince Charming! What are the odds of that?

And no, neither my son nor my daughter ever had issues with the M&Gs, be they with Belle or Alladin. Same thing the the rides, from the Teacups (because after all, they're inherently girlish) to Tower of Terror.....

And since this is a "princess" movie thread after all, they enjoyed Tangled or PaTF as much as they have Robin Hood, or Cars, The Incredibles, or any number of Disney films.....

Or, hey, since the issue is marketing, how about the fact that Rapunzel had the name of her film changed to appeal more to boys. The final marketing campaign for the movie made it look like it was about Flynn Rider.

Oh, but I forgot that's impossible. You can't legally market to boys anymore....

A wasted outlay of capital, indeed.....

As I'm sure this new Pixar film will be. Because after all, it's a "princess" movie. :lookaroun

And since we're talking about movies, let's look at Disneys output for 2011:

Prom - okay, that sounds girly. Maybe the OP has a point...
Pirates 4 - and the scales are evened
Cars 2 - tipping towards boys here...
Winnie the Pooh - general audiences, no impact
The Muppets - general audiences, no impact
National Treasure 3 - another boy-leaning action/adventure movie

Gee, I can see why the OP felt the need to complain about all those girl movies Disney keeps cranking out...

No way it could live up to Tron...

Because reviving a decades-old box office disappointment and aiming it at the PS3 generation was money well spent!

As I stated at the onset of this thread, some people just feel the need to go after what they consider low-hanging fruit. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out.....

Do you think they're beating this "princess" thing into the ground just a bit?

Princess & the frog, Tangled, Brave...

We get it, they make decent bank and allow you to push merch on little girls and sappy parents, but please move on already!

To address the initial post -

I would note that Tangled was written, and retitled from Rapunzel, to emphasize both the male and felmale characters, precisely to try to appeal to the boys as well as the girls. To whom it would appeal depends less on a demographic than on the individual; when my wife and I saw it together, I loved it while she "liked" it - as opposed to TRON:Legacy, which I enjoyed and which she described as "awesome!"

I am not suggesting that we are a demographic; we are a married couple in our 40s and have nothing to say as to what someone's son or daughter will like. Simultaneously, though, we are neither little girls nor sappy parents.

Ultimately, I am more interested in whether or not the latest movie has a good story, told in an entertaining way, than in the gender of the lead.

It has been pointed out that Frontierland is mostly boy-oriented; I would expand that to suggest that the same could be said about Tomorrowland.

Frontierland I can agree with, Tomorrowland seems completely gender neutral since Alien Encounter was removed for Stitch.

Tron
Jake and the Neverland Pirates
The Incredibles
ESPN Club
Wild World Of Sports
Pinocchio
Pirates Of The Caribbean 1, 2, 3, & 4, (possibly 5..)
etc.....

This list didn't even mention Disney created a whole new tv CHANNEL geared towards boys.

Toon Disney turned into-----> Disney XD (The initial promos were VERY boy targeted)

How do you figure that?

I'll grant you Stitch, MILF, Carousel of Progress and TTA as more or less gender neutral. But surely Buzz Lightyear and Space Mountain have more traditional appeal to boys than girls. :veryconfu

Not to mention the whole sci-fi theme of the place. Yes, I know girls who like sci-fi. I also know girls who read comics. But most would agree that both are more typically male interests.

What was your point again?

Or, you know, BOUGHT FRICKIN' MARVEL COMICS!!!!

Clearly Disney is ignoring boys.

TR2N was made for $170 million and has grossed $400 million.

Tangled was made for $260 million and has grossed $550 million.

TRON3 is currently in production.

But the big question is what will they do with it?

Or rather what will they be allowed to do with it.

Make a lot of movies, video games and cartoons not to mention merch.

Maybe you were asking what they will do with it in the theme parks? The answer is what difference does it make? That's got nothing to do with the Marvel purchase. If they do anything at all, it is icing on the cake.

Point is, there is no girl bias. At all. None.

So what point are you trying to make again?

It hints at pre-production since Disney hasn't made the teaser official yet.

Sequences have been shot for the trailer already.

Oh, I see. You don't understand what "in production" means. Cause Tron 3 is not in production. Whether or not it ever will be is debatable. But if I wanted to see it, I'd go out and buy a lot of copies of Tron Legacy on BluRay.

cause if the video sales aren't exceptional, it ain't happenin'!
