Another 24 Hours of Disney Event?

I would agree with you if it was a WDW only event. However, l don't think DLR cares about SWO. I found and read up on it on micechat last night and it sounds like this is a DLR idea and they just added MK into it.

Speaking of SWO, anyone think Antarctica will have soft openings???? Maybe before May 11th???????????

i heard a strong chance of the weekend before.

I'm sure management won't mind both parks at capacity with lines waiting to get in. Though I imagine there will be more of a security presence in the Esplanade.

Let's not forget the Deluxe APs. The passes are blocked on the 25th, but not the 24th. As long as they don't park hop, they should be able to stay for the entire 24 hours, unless wristbands are given out.

I feel bad for the CMs. They have to deal with Grad Nite kids and regular guests. Good luck to them.

Had a blast at One More Disney Day, so I'll make every effort to be in Disneyland & DCA for this. Magic Kingdom has "better" attractions for an event like this (e.g. Carousel of Progress, Country Bear Jamboree, TTA), but the atmosphere at Disneyland is tough to beat. Plus, walking between DCA and Disneyland gives it the easy trump card.

Of course, this is all from Al Lutz so there's a bunch of people that just won't believe it. :D

For the rest of us, it's a big change from the last 24 hour party in that they are now making it for both parks at Disneyland Resort, instead of just Disneyland. According to Lutz, the WDW version is only Magic Kingdom Park.

I agree this seems to be driven more by Disneyland, and I doubt the Antarctica opening at Sea World Orlando had much to do with it.

If true, this will be occurring on the same night as a Grad Nite. Unless there's only one or two schools showing up that day, this is going to be total madness at the DLR.

I was thinking the opposite.. why on earth would DLR pick a grad night to do it? Think about the labor strains this will cause.. let alone the mix-in problems.
I would think maybe FL thought 'if we do it on more popular day.. we can drive the crowds up and make it more economically feasible for us..' and DLR gets dragged along.
Then some genuis probably says 'well DCA will be open anyways for Grad Night.. so lets say both parks are open!! and DCA can handle the crowd overflow that can't get into DLR!! win win win!!'
Except they totally forget what the Grad Night crowd is...

I think it was brought up for both parks and not one and the other being dragged along. It's apparently part of the Monstrous Summer promotion. Why they would choose a Grad Nite date, I'm not sure.

If this is a serious attempt to counteract Antartica, its very poor show.

Does anyone think Seaworld is the competition on a day to day basis for MK? I can see it as a move to keep the locals away from a seaworld event (distract..) but a defensive move for the bread and butter of WDW?? Nah I don't see it.

I can see it from a PR point of view.. or local AP crowds... but certainly not from a revenue/attendance type of thing. And if it were.. would be a rather petty move to try to hog the news cycle from seaworld which isn't really the same type of park anyways.

An innovative new ride with its own highly themed mini-land, how popular could that be, right?

I've been following it.. and it hasn't changed my motivation to visit Seaworld at all. I think too many Disney fans are drooling over the trackless system more than caring what the actual attraction is.

Maybe it's a coincidence with the date? I don't know. But it seems rather odd that the rumored 24 hour party at MK would be scheduled the same day as Antartica's grand opening.

This and the fact it's nice to have something worth drooling over. At least for me it's a purely selfish desire to want Disney to have the next "cool" thing.

I can see why they chose the 24th as the day to do this being that it falls on Memorial day Weekend and with that weekend being the kickstart to the summer season. Huh, maybe their planning to have this press event/announcement be 24 hrs long being that it covers 2 days and the 2 events would coinside with one another.
Monstrous Summer Press Event: April 25th-26th
One More Disney Day 2.0: May 24th-25th
(weird how it's almost exactly one month apart)

Incredibly stupid and desperate move by Disney to get LTM some pulse.

Good point. LTM seems to have fizzled.

Disney should be worried. The ride and land look pretty darned cool to me. If you're going to have LTM and you can do a big event at the same time a competitor opens something cool, its a no-brainer.
