Annoying and unnecessary Christmas music at WDW. Your thoughts, please!

As a CM, I'm just thrilled to listen to something different for a change and wish they would hurry up and change the sound track in Toon Town to all Christmas music. Big Bad Wolf ...Three Little Pigs:cry::eek::mad::brick::hammer::hurl:

Having said that, I could agree with themeing the Christmas music more to Main St, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Blvd. Having said that, during the Christmas parties, the music in Adventureland is island Christmas music. All through Fantasyland and Toon Town, it is characters singing Christmas songs and on Main St it tends to be Burl Ives or Mitch Miller, both old time singers, so they are attempting to theme it more.

I couldnt agree more with the OP ... the WORST part is 2 years ago they were still playing XMas music in Epcot on Jan 20th .. whats up with that?

Is anyone else annoyed at how sloppily Christmas music is thrown at you in the parks? I love Christmas as much as anyone, but there are some places where it just is a little too over bearing.

There are at least four locations in which I have a problem with it. The first two are Hollywood Boulevard, and Main Street U.S.A. Yes. Christmas is coming. I understand that. I see the decorations. But, as I'm walking into the parks, I want to hear the correctly themed music.

The locations that I have the biggest problems with the music are Future World, and Fantasmic. There is absolutely NO NEED for holiday music in Future World, when the World Showcase is (rightfully so) the holiday headquarters of the park. There are no Christmas themed attractions or shows in Future World, and so I don't need to be listening to holiday music.

The worst location is Fantasmic. There's something about original the pre-show music that sets the mood. I love the mix of Disney music that they usually play, it gets you psyched to see the show. But, not anymore. Instead, you're treated to the same vanilla, generic music that you've just been hearing on your whole vacation. Fantasmic is NOT a holiday show, so why am I listening to holiday music for an hour before it starts?!

Maybe I'm being too picky and critical, but am I the only one questioning why I'm hearing the same music that I just heard in Downtown Disney Marketplace, that I am in Disney - MGM Studios' flagship nighttime show?

Happy Holidays everyone. :xmas:
I agree with you on most points, but the Fantasmic preshow music? That music hardly sets the mood of the show, Disney just had remakes made of some popular 90s songs and did a bad job at that. But I enjoy the music mostly.

I teach music in NJ at a school where Christmas/holiday music is a no-no. I spend all of December at work ignoring all the wonderful holiday music there is to share. Nothing thrills me more than hearing Christmas music everywhere I go at Disney. It is then I feel like my holiday has truly begun! I say bring it on- anywhere and everywhere.

Not to be rude- but you could always visit at a different time of year.

I'm also tired of saying the PC "Happy Holidays".

Merry Christmas!:xmas:
Happy Hanukkah!
Happy Kwanza!
Happy New Year!

Double Ditto!
Merry Christmas to you! :xmas:

I understand someone missing the typical music of WDW. I have to have my music fix sometimes and listen to Epcot opening music, Animal Kingdom entrance music, etc... However, I think it would be a bad idea to deck out the parks for Christmas and play the same old music. Disney is so well themed that it would almost be tacky to not match the music and decorations. That being said...I would love to be in WDW and hear Christmas music. One of these days I want to go at Christmas. However, my job doesn't allow it. The school system shaves more and more time off of Christmas break and makes it impossible for me to go during this time and still get to have a Christmas at home with one of God's greatest blessings to me: my family. Maybe when I retire many years from now...*Sigh*

Anywho...
Merry Christmas :xmas: and Happy Hanukkah!
May God bless and keep you safe!

Here we go:

Epcot:

Just some examples of things I think Disney should aim for. That's cool that they use Burl Ives on Main Street during the Christmas party. I also like the music they have at the Osborne Lights. I think they should do something more with the main music loops, though. The entrance music is a very important part of the experience, especially when you first enter the park. I think if they are going to change the music in these areas, they need to do it right.

I'm not going to read through the posts, but as a whole, I agree with the OP. The Christmas music is really crappy in my opinion. Granted I hear it everyday that I work but it sounds like something I'd hear at Dillards or JC Pennys. They need something a little more contemporary. For the most part, the cast think its lame as well.

Personally when I go somewhere that is advertising Christmas Activities (MVMCP, Osbourne Lights, Christmas Around the World, etc.) I expect to hear Christmas music. It helps set the mood for all the activities! That's just me...what do I know.

I don't get some people's comments on how they expect more out of the Christmas music or that it reminds them of something they heard before.

Jingle Bells played over the radio is going to sound exactly the same as Jingle Bells played at WDW.

Christmas music is Christmas music. What do people expect?

Best Christmas music at WDW:

The outer-space themed music in Tomorrowland during MVMCP. There's nothing like a futuristic version of "Silent Night" to get you in the Christmas spirit! (I'm not joking, though--I really like it!)

At least the Christmas music makes sense this time of year...as opposed to, say, the love songs that play during the Flower and Garden Festival.

Sorry, I probably came off as an ______ in my last post.

What I mean, is that there are many different styles of Christmas music, just as there are many different styles of music in general. Country, jazz, swing, oldies, new age, rock, etc.

We have a popular radio station up here that has played Christmas music 24/7 since Thanksgiving. I think I've heard every version of every song ever played. It bother's some people, but not me. If that's the worst thing you have to worry about, oh well.

i like it when characters from the parks sing there own versions of the songs, its clever, and often the songs are in the correct places. for example the african ones in ak.

alot of people goto disney for a christmas holiday its not alot to ask to put up with the music as alot of people can only come every few years from a long distance.

however when its in your head its a banana phone

The problem I have with the Christmas music is the volumes and locations.

One of the things thats make the Magic for me at WDW is how they pipe the music in everwhere so that it seems to be coming out of nowhere. It's almost subliminal when you walk around Future World. It's like you notice it, then you don't, then you do again.
On the last two trips when I've gone during the Christmas Holidays, the Christmas music seems to be BLARING. And it just seems weird to be hearing Burl Ives singing "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" when you're in front of Mission Space.
I have no problem with Loud Christmas music being played in Disney/MGM in the Obsborne Lighs area, that area is all about Christmas, But in some areas, especially in the non Christmas themed areas like Living Seas/Nemo, and some other places in WDW, it just seems out of balance.

For Future World to be themed like Future World, and not just have some half-a'd Christmas overlay. Did you not read, anything?

Did you not read my post? :lookaroun

Christmas music is still Christmas music.

Do you want futuristic robots coming out with synthetic beats and techno remixes of Jingle Bells?

The music sets the mood.

There are plenty of "themed" Christmas music all around Disney world. People should be grateful they are there that time of year and stop whining about everything.

I can't believe you all took me literally.

Of course I realize there are various versions of the same Christmas song. But it's still going to be that one particular song.

If people actually listened to what Disney had to offer, they'd realize that ther are different themes and styles of Christmas music around WDW.

You should choose your words a little more wisely my friend.
Just because someone disagrees with your opinion doesn't mean they are "Whining" or Whiners. Some would consider this name calling, which would be considered to be rude and unacceptable behavior on these boards.
