The only place I can't stand the Christmas music is Dino-Rama. Comes from working in C&H and having to hear the loop over and over again. Most of the songs aren't that bad but four specific ones are like fingernails on the chalkboard of my brain: "Dond esta Santa Clause" (sp), "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth", "I'm the Angel in the Christmas Play", and "My Birthday Comes on Christmas". The previous one because it has one of those tunes you can't get out of your head, the latter three because the voice singing them makes me want to cry by the third or fourth song I hear. :brick: Otherwise I like the music.

For those commenting on the poltically correct "Happy Holidays", let me offer this perspective, from a Jew who is not all that observant, and pretty thick-skinned. When somebody says "Merry Christmas" to me, two thoughts usually go through my head. The first is "How nice, this person wishes me happiness." The second is "Sigh...why does everybody assume that we all celebrate Christmas?" I'm not offended by the greeting and will respond in kind, but it is a subtle reminder that I'm in the minority. So, I prefer Happy Holidays, unless I know what holiday the person celebrates, in which case I try to tailor the greeting as appropriate.

I feel the same way. How everyone assumes you're Christian around a Christian holiday. The worst is when immediate family sends you heavily Christian-themed holiday cards at every single chance (yes, even Christian-themed birthday cards) when you've made it abundantly clear you are not Christian.

Sorry. A little off-topic. But I was at Epcot today enjoying the holiday music! And it seems to sound better there than in my own home.... wonder why? :D

Did you not read my post? :lookaroun

Christmas music is still Christmas music.

Do you want futuristic robots coming out with synthetic beats and techno remixes of Jingle Bells?

The music sets the mood.

There are plenty of "themed" Christmas music all around Disney world. People should be grateful they are there that time of year and stop whining about everything.

Then why do I hear the same exact Christmas tracks on Hollywood Blvd., Sunset, Fantasmic, Future World, and Downtown Disney.

As for the whining: This is a WDW discussion forum. We discuss things at WDW. You're the only one whining. If you have nothing else to add, leave.

I agree with the original poster. Its perfectly fine if they want to play some Christmas music at the parks. But why in so many places? It is all over all four parks. Why spoil the elaborate theming in so many areas by piping in Christmas music as if the park is now a department store?

Its just kind of tacky, thats all. Also, I'm far from someone who cares about political correctness, but many people who come to WDW don't celebrate Christmas, and I doubt they wanted to be bombarded by it at WDW.

To me, Christmas is not a religious holiday. I look forward to it each year the same way I look forward to Thanksgiving - (hopefully) paid time off from work to be with friends and family and enjoy each others' company. Thanksgiving does not signify a time to remember when my forefathers came to this country to steal land from the native peoples. Christmas does not signify a time to remember when a religious icon was supposedly born. Call me heathen, but I don't celebrate these things. Consequently, while I don't mind generic holiday music (ie. "Jingle Bells," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Frosty the Snowman") and for the most part love to watch the Rankin-Bass specials every December, I definitely don't want to hear religious music anywhere...especially at the Parks. Unless they're going to give equal musical time to every religion's celebrational music, then I don't feel Disney should allow any of them.
That being said, I'm completely fine with the generic holiday music mentioned previously to be played in the Parks as background. However, I agree with the original poster that if they're going to do it, it should be appropriately themed, otherwise it just feels out of place and ruins the verisimilitude of whatever "land" you're in. Main Street's (and most of the lands in the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland) is fine, though of course I'd replace the religious stuff. But as noted already, Future World's holiday background music is the most glaring example of not fitting its surroundings. Techno Christmas music exists and wouldn't be hard to put in (Trans-Siberian Orchestra!). Similarly, for Animal Kingdom there must be African- and Asian-sounding versions of holiday music...perhaps they even have some of their own songs that could be used. Authenticity is the key. Once you start losing that, it becomes less and less Disney and more and more like some cheesy competitor. The immersion gets stripped away.
And to the poster a while back who said to come to EPCOT the other 335 days of the year to hear the regular music, I have been three times in the past year-and-a-half. The first time they were playing the Disney love songs, which was even more hideously out of place than the Christmas loop. The second time, they were playing the Christmas loop. And most recently, every day I was there except October 1st they played music from "Ratatouille." I heard they were even playing music from "Pirates of the Caribbean" for awhile. So, there doesn't really seem to be any time of year you can go anymore and get the amazing entrance music they used to use. It's all about whatever current movie or lame event they want to promote now. It's not about proper theming.

What is it with everyone who doesn't like something. So WDW plays some Christmas music in places you don't see fit. Too Bad. I'm not a church type person I only celebrate the holidays out of tradition. But I like the music whatever they may be playing. Just be happy that you are one of the lucky americans who can afford to go in this economy that we have right now. The money you are paying to enjoy WDW could help pay someone's mortgage so their kids don't loose their home at this time of year. So just be happy. Stop complaining.

I certainly don't.

Why there is orchestrated music in Epcot, Bing Crosby singing at the Osborne lights, the Disney characters singing at Downtown Disney...oh yeah, it's all the same.

I'm whining? You are the one who felt the need to start this complaint thread of how the music in certain places "annoys" you and is "unnecessary".:lookaroun

But whatever, if you don't like it, then that's fine with me. I don't care. If you don't like the way Disney handles it, just don't go during that time of year if it bothers you that much.

If it doesn't bother you that much, then go and enjoy it for what it is. After all, Christmas only comes once a year.

I guess I'm in the minority of people who don't mind at all Christmas music at Christmastime.

I'm almost positive that the MGM and Future World Christmas loops are exactly the same.

You can take the almost out of it, they are. I spent Friday and Saturday listening to the MGM one at work, and then 5 hours in front of SSE listening to the same exact songs on Sunday. Unless they switch out one or two songs that I've never paid close attention to, they are the same loops.

Does anyone know where I can find the Hippo Song. all I want for Christmas Is A Hippopotamus.:xmas::xmas::xmas::ROFLOL:

I've always thought that song was intriguing. "Oh, I want a hippopotamus for Christmas..." So sorry. I have no clue where to find it though.

The worst location is Fantasmic. There's something about original the pre-show music that sets the mood. I love the mix of Disney music that they usually play, it gets you psyched to see the show. But, not anymore. Instead, you're treated to the same vanilla, generic music that you've just been hearing on your whole vacation. Fantasmic is NOT a holiday show, so why am I listening to holiday music for an hour before it starts?!

Maybe I'm being too picky and critical, but am I the only one questioning why I'm hearing the same music that I just heard in Downtown Disney Marketplace, that I am in Disney - MGM Studios' flagship nighttime show?

Happy Holidays everyone. :xmas:

Well, in my humble opinion, having Christmas music instead of the usual mix before Fantasmic! is just like when MK has its Christmas parade during MVMCP instead of SpectroMagic. There has to be some symmetry between the parks. If music is the best way to create that symmetry, so be it.

:xmas: Happy Holidays! :xmas:

Let me just say that I REALLY hate the Christmas music being played all over Future World. Its fine for the entrance, but not the entire thing.

And it is, indeed, the same loop played on Hollywood Blvd.

Really, its like, am I in Future World? Or some shopping center in Downtown Anywhere, USA?

This thread brings up a good question.

I will be in WDW Jan 5 -Jan 13. Will it still be decked out for Christmas or do they take it all down between Christmas and New Years?

I don't really care if it is. I would be a bit interested to see how everything looks this time of year.

I have never been during the holidays so any help would be appreciated!:)

Having Christmas music over the usual Fantasmic music is much better, as that pop-Disney stuff is not very good, in my opinion.

I love going to MGM and hearing 40s music (my favorite kind of music) as I head towards the Tower of Terror. I think that walking down Sunset Boulevard is very much a part of the experience of Tower of Terror and one of my favorite experiences in all the parks. It sends you back to that era with the music. It would be a lot of fun to hear Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters sing Christmas songs as I walk down that street during Christmas time. Again, just a suggestion.
