News Announced: Mary Poppins Attraction in UK Pavilion

There is no reason you would need to know every event in the Mary Poppins Movie in order to understand an attraction.. We all view Mary Poppins as quintessentially British with her umbrella and carpet bag. The ride would not, and honestly should not be a linear retelling of the movie but a happy romp with Mary and friends... That is sort of how Song Of The South is realized in Splash Mountain... And trust me, everyone has heard of Mary Poppins even if they don't know the movie intimately...

With the exceptions of the 'classic' dark rides (Snow White's Scary Adventures, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland), Disney needs to stay away from the storybook format and focus on a particular part of a film. Mr. Toad focuses on the car theft (and sends people to hell for some reason), Frozen Ever After sings the songs while going past familiar characters (but mostly avoids a scene-by-scene recreation), Roger Rabbit created a new adventure, and Mine Train mostly focuses, well, on the mine.

Jolly Holiday would have been perfect. Solely focused on one part of the film, easy to explain, and filled with cheerful music.

Tonight, I am at Epcot, viewing Illuminations from the United Kingdom pavilion. While waiting for the show to begin, I have been wondering about the potential location for the proposed attraction. Will the hedge maze, gazebo, and central garden be lost?

Possibly. But nothing is definite nor written off yet I don't think.

Personally there's one proposal that I hope they go with. But time will tell.

Question, if you can answer @marni1971 -- do you like that "one proposal" due to the theme/IP used (i.e. it being a great fit for Epcot) or because of the potential quality of the ride (regardless of theme appropriateness)? Or, could it be, both?

Understand if you cannot say.

The chances of this happening might be even a bit less than 0% but it would be a great fit if the UK Pavilion had an updated Peter Pan's Flight darkride (It could even be a carbon copy of Shanghai's version).

This would also open up some valuable real estate in Fantasyland for the addition of an attraction that handles crowds far better than its current occupant.

@marni1971 I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet, but if this UK attraction and the Rat ride are built, does this mean all of WS will open with the rest of the park?

It would make sense, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just did the pavilions with rides (or basically the half of WS from France around to Norway). With Canada having the Circle Vision show, all of those pavilions would have some major entertainment to offer.

I could see that happening, but it just seems odd (read: very cheap on Disney's part) to have only Germany through Morocco closed. It would make it very hard to travel from Rat to Frozen or vice-versa.

You do know that SWSA in WDW especially had VERY little to do with the story of the actual film, originally right?
Oh I know, but 2/3 of the existing versions follow the story more. Japan's is still pretty Witch-centric, but Paris seems to follow the film the most (I think the last version at WDW followed the film the closest, yet it still scared the crap out of me).
