EPCOT Announced: Mary Poppins Attraction in UK Pavilion

It was allotted to things like plexiglass, distancing markers, etc., and to absorb costs from when the parks reopened to very low capacities. It wasn’t cheap to get the parks ready to reopen in Summer 2020.
Daily dose of corporate PR?

They have never lost money In Orlando…the Mary poppins cancellation had zero to do with covid “costs”

The parks operated in the red during summer 2020. They did become profitable sooner than Disney seems to want us to believe, though. There’s no reason we cant have dancers in the parade, for example. And they could absolutely start building Poppins today. It’s a pretty fast build and they don’t think they need anything until at least 2024, however.

They were closed…the federal government poured money on everyone…the stock went to a ridiculous level (while closed)

You do the math

There’s no need for conspiracy when the historical record is so easy to see

My point is they can afford to build 50 of whatever they want…and not sweat

I don’t begrudge Disney their early pandemic decisions. Universal completely stopped building their next park for awhile.

And I’ve said I agree with you that NOW it is not an acceptable excuse. It’s especially ridiculous with respect to WDW, which helped keep the company afloat while other properties were closed much longer. If they want to punish a property, punish Disneyland. Its extended closure cost them a fortune.

I never think wdw is being “punished”

The customers have really set the bar where “nothing” is good enough.

TBH, the Walt Disney Company set that bar long ago... We are now just noticing that the shuttered attractions with no replacement, the dumbing down of theme across properties, the lack of upkeep and repair on major attractions, the lack of desire to actually complete their projects as hyped without value-engineering them, all the while raising prices... It gets to a tipping point eventually.

The place peaked in 99/2000…there’s really no way to argue that…

But the disrepair has been accelerating. The changes in management over time is huge. They use to not even think of such a sad state…so it never happened. Now it’s thrown out and tracked for acceptance on a “red line” spreadsheet.

There seems to be little if any impetus on the corporate level to build good things. That is the difference from the 20th century Disney to the 21st.
I also feel more or a short term (during their tenure) outlook, instead of a long term future plan that we used to see. It isnt what will make the park great forever.. but how can we make money today.

There has to be that one person that's been a fly in his ear at at least one of the creative meetings about new experiences at EPCOT going "Hey uh Figment". "Haha so like Figment". "Tall tree dude? I mean there's also Figment...".

Or at least one would hope.

Why spend money on a ride when popcorn buckets, t shirts and people eat a new overpriced food and drink at connections that has a static prop of the character with no cost to the company?
