EPCOT Announced: Mary Poppins Attraction in UK Pavilion

What type of attraction was speculated for this space, something involving the bowl/Royal Doulton Music Hall scene?
Yes. The porcelain scenes. Sadly I'm picturing a slower moving carnival Scrambler rotating toward screens based on description hints. But I'd prefer something like this. https://falconscreativegroup.com/products/circumotion-theater/ Don't think a definitive ride system has been rumored yet. It's not Baxter's Jolly Holiday but I'll take anything over another Mad Tea Party.

A ride that mimics the part of the movie where carousel horses detach and race would be fun IMO. It's something I always thought as a kid would be awesome to do. Okay as an adult too.

I appreciate the idea of smaller project plussing the pavilion. Too many times crowds form in specific countries, while others are a complete ghost town. The more things to check out in different pavilions will only help elevate crowds in other countries. Even if Mary poppin’s isn’t my bag, always exciting to hear more is being added.

They need at least 3 per park. Not joking

He’s the CEO. It isn’t a huge project. If he says he wants it built, it will be built. I’m just surprised he cares so much about (or is even aware of) this little project.
He’s also Bob chapek…

Have you noticed everything has been reduction at higher price since Bob slapped staggs on the can at the door? (And before…but not as much)

He’s a crap peddler…

Ill admit I don’t follow everything…I had ZERO idea of just how dependent Europe was on Russian petrol until last week…it’s “bad” by the way…

But I got Bob chapek.

And please let’s skip the “he can’t lie to the stockholders”…he can say anything he wants and have a million outs. And the traders already knew anyway…

Yeah, it’s amazing how gullible people can be. A statement that says he’s looking “forward to refunding the Mary Poppins ride in the future” Is basically saying something might happen sometime between now and hell freezing over.

There is a vast ocean of difference in the English language between looking forward to something and saying you will be doing something.

It was an intentional weasel answer meant to deflect that it was unceremoniously canceled to people who don't want to hear it was canceled.

People are somehow finding a way to take his statement which amounts to a soft way of saying "no plans to move forward with this" as good news, though. 🙄

Meanwhile, how did Florida parks do on revenue last quarter?

I’m not saying it’ll never happen… but then again, neither did Bob… and isn’t that the point? 😏

Yes
I trust ONLY the shovels…and that doesn’t lead me astray.

Taking out two grand Floridian lodges to reduce the rooms, drive up price and sell timeshares?

Ok…I believed that one from the start. Got me there

If the rooms weren't selling (ie low occupancy rate) why not commoditized them as timeshares? Unsold days can still be rented out and upkeep can be billed to owners.

The announcement came from his lips when he was head of parks so I’m not overly surprised he remembers it. But alas, he may have actually forgot and just improvised when answering the question. I’d be curious to see a video of the actual interaction.

This is basically the best answer that both doesn’t further commit them to the project and doesn’t make waves about its cancellation. I wouldn’t be surprised if they go this route until it’s far enough in the past and/or people stop asking. Of course I’d be glad if it actually gets built.

EPCOT's Mary Poppins attraction lives according to Disney CEO Bob Chapek

It'd better be themed to Walt's movie, and not the unnecessary sequel. And hopefully Uncle Albert will figure in there somewhere (perhaps a tea/coffee shop with floating tables near the ceiling, etc.). But in any case, I'm too jaded to be excited about this. Even if a Poppins area/ride is greenlit, the "sharp pencil boys" will cut all the heart out of it. I'd love to be proven wrong. A company that won't fix that damn yeti is not a company I have any faith in anymore...

This project is just not gonna happen. Wish I could say differently; I'd LOVE to walk down Cherry Tree Lane.

Just saying the net effect of what they’ve done with retrofits for about 17 years…it’s up to everyone else to realize how it affects the system.

So IF we get a ride lets look at what to expect
What ride does disney like to over utilize
what is super cheap (for disney)
I assume they can reuse the same internal parts for all of them (more saving costs)
High capacity (needed.. not necessarily what they have been doing)
What do they put in when they really dont care to be "game changing or put any time into it"

Dumbo ALA spinner

In reality they could do a lot of cool stuff for not much more money including an enclosed merry go round (the sides would be screens instead of seeing mom wave at you) or of course the ride in all of our minds a carousel where you come off the carousel stay on your horse and go through an adventure. I dont see Disney spending that much money on this (would there be room? I really dont know). I think Disney likes to go towards the younger fan and feel Mary Poppins isnt that. But who pays for the tickets... and nostalgia is huge.. I think they are understimating what a great mary poppins ride would draw in. And thats ignoring that people might be attracted to a ride due to IP (ex. non disney fans never been to a park.. but drawn to want to ride due to X IP .. star wars, harry potter for universal) But if a ride is good it doenst even need a known IP... but they dont like to remember that.

You know he might have put his foot in his mouth. If he hadnt commented or just said we are still looking at it, nobody would have cared. But if his response gathers steam and people get excited about it.. they might realize that there is a demand...

The against my comment-
Have they not heard us about Figment?
I dont think they are smart enough to float something out there to gauge interest or get free publicity
Disneyland still doesnt have a people mover to replace the people mover

When the CEO goes out of his way to bring something up, we should expect it will be built unless he stops being CEO. He wasn’t asked about this ride but he brought it up anyway.

They keep talking about Frog Mountain, too. Unfortunately.

Someone should ask him about the Main Street Theater. He doesn’t do well when cornered.

What if they took a page out of the Universal playbook and created a really engaging London section that included Cherry Tree Lane but also nods to the other films they did that were set in London and the UK...Cruella, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, 101 Dalmations, Peter Pan... All worked into an interactive cityscape featuring the Mary Poppins ride but lots of other things to explore... And while it can't be Diagon Alley, it could be something worth seeing... Create new branded merch to fill the stores specific to the setting and IP... just like they did at Hogsmeade... And of course, this could become the model for all pavilions and the reinvention of the World Showcase...

…yeah…cause they really WANT to spend money 🤪
