I just want to center it soooo bad!

Well, technically, it is. The "Studios" along the bottom is centered, along with the "Disney's". The thing is that "Hollywood" is right aligned with "Studios". Woud it look better if it was centered? Maybe. But as it stands, the new logo is growing on me. Personally, I think this one is more classy looking than the former Disney/MGM logo.

I don't think it's lighted like the old one...
:(
I would hope that the outlines of all the letter glyphs in the sign are (back)lit a la neon tubing at night...

Since the letters are black, I wouldn't expect them to fully light up. Just the outlines around the letters.\

Edit: If the outlines don't light up...it could end up looking pretty stupid at night...

The old logo looked awkward, to be honest, with the mix of the MGM logo and Mickey Mouse. But I got so used to it, I never really thought about it. This sign looks very nice.

A side note: Isn't the archway a bit of a wierd thing in itself? I mean, why is there suddenly an archway with the official logo of the park randomly placed as the entrance to the Animation Courtyard? I know originally the archway was there as the official entrance to the studio portion of the park and the studio tour. But that's been long gone, so now I guess it just stands as tradition.

No big deal, I just think its a bit wierd.

I really like it. Like, really really like it.

That can't be a good thing can it?

I think i need someone to administer a drug test to make sure I'm not hallucinating

Because the park was not ALWAYS in the format that you are used to. The backlot used to be completely blocked off from foot traffic. You could not walk down the Streets of America like you do now -- that was only accessible if you rode the tram... and guess what, in order to get to the tram you had to walk through this arch way to get to the "Studios" part of the park.

I know there are some old maps floating around that show how the park used to be set up when it first opened... but in an nutshell that is why it is located there.

I don't know if it lights up or not, but there's a relatively new shopping plaza/center down the road from my home. It's built on a hill, and as you come around the highway offramp there's a large sign for the complex made up of individual letters. During the day, the letters are black, but at night they light up internally and are a soft white.
When I first saw the black letters it was daytime, and I thought "who was the idiot who made the sign letters BLACK??? You'll never see it at night!". The first time I drove by after sundown I saw it and went "Oooohhhhhh...."

As for the Studios sign, that's a lot of anchors and attaching to do overnight in one night. Is it possible that the off-color panel (as seen in the interim logo-free photos) that's been there for a few months was just a temporary cover over the wiring connections? Then the new sign came as one complete panel with lettering, paint and wiring already installed, and they just removed the temporary panel, wired up the new one and secured it to the arch?

Looks good...will still call it MGM but still looks good.

While I probably won't be using the full DHS name that often, I'm finding it fairly easy and natural to refer to it as "Studios"... Might still have an "MGM" slip in there now and then, though. Besides, how many people actually said "Disney-MGM Studios" before? It was either "MGM" or "Studios", one of which still works.

About time, It looks great but I can't see how it has taken them all of this time to install the sign in such a key position of the park.

Looking forward to see night time shots of it.:)

I like it. Mickey looks cool coming out. I must say, however, that I will always love it as MGM!!!!:)

Yeah, looks awesome with the lights....maybe in time they will do that for the new sign.
