Trip Report And I am telling you, I AM going...on the Disney Dream WDWMagic Girls Cruise

Can you stand another trip report from the 1st Annual UNofficial WDWMagic Girls’ Cruise? What’s that you say? Well, I’ll just keep going anyway. Fair warning: I’m long-winded. If three words are all that’s required to get the message across, I’ll use ten.

Just so you recognize me:
IMG_1612.JPG

On October 29, 2011, I was browsing the WDWMagic forums and guided the mouse towards the Disney Vacation Club forum. By accident, I clicked on the Disney Cruise Line forum, where I noticed a thread called “**It's UNOFFICIAL** The '13 Unofficial WDWMagic Girls Cruise!” Intrigued, I opened it up and discovered that @sweetpee_1993 and @Disneyfalcon had organized and were recruiting for a trip in September 2013. In a matter of hours, I had signed up. I was going to be celebrating my 50th birthday in July 2013, and declared that this would be an ideal birthday present from my darling husband! Saint that he is, he agreed, although I’m pretty sure he didn’t think I was serious about it until I booked my airline ticket this past February! I lined up @joanna71985 as a roommate for the cruise, and @plaz10 as my roommate for the one-night pre-cruise at Bay Lake Tower, as well as a couple of nights post-cruise at the Boardwalk.

Fast forward to Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. I’d packed my bags the night before (and weighed them!), tucked in my cruise paperwork and my passport, and we said we’d leave the house our usual 3 hours in advance of flight time to make it to LaGuardia and through security without any last-minute rush. Suddenly, I remembered that the US Open would be playing that day--“honey, check the time of the first match!” Noon. Same time as my flight. OMG, there’s going to be massive traffic, and the tennis stadium is right next to the airport. Now we start rushing, and though I’ve traveled plenty on my own, and am usually the calm one, I realize that I don’t know where my passport is. Sheer panic. Took me almost ten minutes to find it in my purse. After all that drama, we had the smoothest drive to LGA ever, no traffic, and then no security line! I never had so much time to burn at the airport.

Boarded my multi-cultural flight--sitting next to me was a young couple from Italy on their honeymoon. Behind us was a French family (mom, boy and girl directly behind, dad across the aisle from them). Before we even take off, the boy is acting up. Italian bride looks scornfully through the seat at them, to no effect. L’enfant terrible starts kicking his legs. Right into my seatback. Once the flight attendant finished the safety spiel, I asked her if it was okay for me to move into the empty aisle seat directly across from me—she glanced behind me and suggested I move right away before we took off. :joyfull: So I joined the honeymooning couple from Spain on that side of the plane, and spent the remainder of the flight with Pere’s knees giving me some unwanted lumbar support.

Arrived at MCO, scooted off the plane and onto the monorail.

This would be my first time using DME! Because I was only there for one night, though, I handled my own luggage since I didn’t want to wait for it. I swung my suitcase off the carousel, and whacked myself in the foot with the thing. Got down to Level 1 and had to pull over and dig out a band-aid so I didn’t bleed all over my shoe. [Note to self: in future, pack band-aids in carry-on.]

Finally!
DME Queue.jpg

Funny, it was a Disney Cruise Line bus! I was too excited to snap a photo, and I decided to use the time on the bus to call home and let the hubs know I’d arrived safely. I’d been texting Jess @plaz10 since landing; she’d gotten in early before the room was ready, so headed into MK, but by the time I got to check-in, she was in our room at BLT. Contemporary would be the second stop on the bus. As we were pulling into Wilderness Lodge, very ominous dark clouds appeared, as you can see here (I had to get a picture of the DCL bus!!)

IMG_1108.JPG

The moment I got my room key, the deluge began, and since both routes to Bay Lake Tower are open, I had to wait it out—
IMG_1110.JPG

I grabbed some lunch at the Contempo Café [kid’s meal mahi-mahi sandwich with fruit]. I’d lost three pounds in preparation for the trip, and wanted to wait til I was on the boat to start packing it back on! :)

I figured there are worse places to be stuck than on the Grand Canyon Concourse:
IMG_1112.JPG

At long last, I made it to the room, and found Jess out on the balcony, soaking in the view of SpaceshipEarth:

IMG_1599.JPG

—it seemed as if all of the WDW resort (except for MK, of course) was spread out in front of us:
IMG_1605.JPG

Not only could we see (from left to right as indicated by my crudely drawn arrows on the zoomed-in screen capture below) Spaceship Earth, but the Swan, the Dolphin, the Tower of Terror, Miss Tilly, and Everest.
WDW Panoramic Capture.JPG

As if we needed a good omen, a rainbow appeared:
IMG_1115.JPG

We had a busy evening ahead of us: Jess wanted to visit the Top of the World lounge, we were joining the group dinner at 1900 Park Fare, and we also wanted to meet up with the group that was having drinks at Tambu Lounge. So we needed to get off the balcony and start getting ready for the evening!

I was the first to arrive for dinner, so I was invited to wait in Meridian. It was an incredibly gorgeous evening, so I stepped out onto the cigar bar area, which was deserted, to enjoy the balmy air and the beautiful sunset:

Mirror shot, although too far away to really count:
IMG_1733.JPG

Mesmerizing sunset. Each time I tried to go indoors to see if anyone else had arrived, the view got more breathtaking and I had to go out and take more photos.

From inside Meridian; for some reason I’ve always been fascinated by maps, so I was drawn to the glass wall in Meridian that features a map of the world:
IMG_1746.JPG

Remy is a beautiful restaurant, the food was very good, the service was very formal and therefore a little bit…intimidating is not the right word, but I’m not used to that level of attention. All of the staff inside the restaurant were very nice, especially our waiters.

Same as everyone else, I was left speechless by the incredible ladies’ room that served both Remy and Palo:
IMG_1732.JPG

There's a good chance you will see a photo of this bathroom in the trip report of every single WDWMagic Girl who ate at Remy or Palo!

After dinner, met up with more of the gang in Evolution. We also had the pleasure of @rani8600 (Lindsay) and her sister joining us! Lindsay spotted us outside Evolution, introduced herself, and we made our way to PINK for a round of champagne cocktails. Wacky bartenders served us, then forgot to give us the tab—we had to actually try to walk out without paying for our drinks to get their attention!! Took ages to get that settled, but I’m pretty sure I was in bed by midnight, because I had to get up early in the morning for Castaway Cay!

I am laughing at the leitmotif of the French family. Too funny.

I had a family with a screeching child on my flight to MCO and they were also on my return flight. Screeching.

I'm telling you, it's like they were haunting me.

Maybe our experiences were karma for leaving the husbands behind!! LOL If so, it was a pretty lightweight burden, so I definitely have no problems doing it again!! :D

Siobhan, this is further proof that we're related. No time to read just now but I promise to catch up later tonight when I'm off my feet.

:inlove:

I have pictures of the ladies room by Palo/Remy as well! It was gorgeous!

I think it's awesome that I'm noticing details in your report that I didn't notice for myself while on the Dream. For instance: The corseted bar! So cool!

My husband tells me all the time that I spend more time telling a back story of a story than to get to the actual point of what I'm trying to say haha.

Siobhan so glad you started your report!!! Lovin" all your pictures! I will repeat.. this cruise was so awesome! And all the friendships we've made. Ooohhh Tarzan up close & personal...It sounds like the one we met at MNSSHP couple years back in Adventureland. Jess & I, along with a Mom were waiting in line for pics....Let me tell ya, he wasn't wearing any type of a body suit covering. Thats all I will say :D.

Back to your report, its like reliving the trip again. Patiently waiting for more.....

All those beautiful sunset pictures - stunning. I had said before that I would splurge on a veranda room for the first cruise, then save money by booking an inside stateroom for the second, if there was one. Wrong! I will definitely have a view on this next awesome ladies of the Dream cruise!

And, I didn't know there was Goofy Golf! Sign me up!

And, @epcotisbest your wife will be fine. I know our trip reports make us all sound to be a bunch of lushes, but that is definitely not the case! We had several non-drinkers in the group, and there were a couple times when we all ordered plain old ice-water at the club!

Well, that just tells me we'll get along just fine. ;)

And, as fab and girly as PINK is, would any of us wear a corset nowadays? I don't think so!!! LOL But is it girly, I guess, in an Edwardian sort of way. :D

Loving the report!

I'm honored. We were certainly glad to have your blessing to use the name, and I trust we lived up to the spirit of the community you've fostered here.

Is it wrong to be a little annoyed that Bob chose to sail for Valentine's Day instead of at the end of the month, when we could have met up with you and Jess again? (not that I told him that, poor man) But hey, we do like to go to Boston, so anytime... ;)

I'd love to post the next part tonight, but I left it on my work computer.

You had Senor Frog, we had Goofy Golf. :) Next time, if you're not doing an excursion, we'll golf. Or we could golf on at-sea day. But you know on at-sea days, we'll be at Remy brunch again! ;)

And I have to say, after having seen Diane & Jess' inside stateroom with the virtual porthole, I would definitely go for that if I'd had a standard verandah. But the aft verandah is hard to give up.

So now I am putting this all together. I have read some other TR on the all ladies trips (lots of them) and I could tell most were meeting for the first time but I had no idea how this trip came about. So just on this forum. That is awesome! I don't ever even go to the cruise line forum. I will now tho. That sounds like something I would so love to do. Very cool of you guys. And to have so many. That's great!

Oh, I just did. I assume exact rates will come out in the future months? I love the Disney Cruise and love the Bahamas. I'll keep reading.

If you think you want to go, contact @Disneyfalcon asap. Rates for next year are already out, and on DCL they only go up as you get closer to sail date, and Tammy can help you book or find you a roommate if you need...even if you only think you might want to go, it's worth it to book now, you can cancel up to 90 day in advance.

Day 3: Castaway Cay

Quite a few of us planned on doing the Castaway Cay 5K.

IMG_1757.JPG

I had to give up running last year because of back issues, so now I power walk, but a number of the runners among us dialed it back to a walk because of the heat. Shannon @Ariel484 and Missy @polymissy braved it running, but the rest of us walked. Although it was early in the day, it was already very warm, and much of the course was among the shrubbery—just imagine Animal Kingdom on a warm day and you’ll get the picture.

Here we are before the start:
IMG_1759.JPG

Terryn @OhanaGirl30 and I seemed to be keeping the same pace, so we did the course together. When we came to the midway point, Jess, Darolyn and Ashley had made the turn a bit ahead of us:
IMG_1761.JPG

After we made the turn, we saw Stephanie and Sherry were not too far behind us:
IMG_1763.JPG

And here we are after with our finisher medals!
IMG_1766.JPG

We headed back to get showered and changed for our day in the cabanas. Just as I was ready to head out, it started lashing rain. I waited it out chatting with next-door neighbors @Mrs.Skellington and @jesemeca on our massive aft verandahs. Finally, the rain started to clear and I headed for the gangway.
IMG_1758.JPG

Grabbed the trolley, got off at the first stop, which was the wrong stop—waited for the next one, got the golf cart escort to the cabanas (cool!), and finally made it!
IMG_1772.JPG

IMG_1785.JPG

Had a great afternoon. Bobbed around in the water for a bit, which was a big deal for me, since I can’t swim (but I was assured that I was in the company of not one, but two lifeguards who would certainly save me if I needed saving). Retired to the cabana, where we kept this guy, Komgrit, busy for the rest of our time on the island:

IMG_1783.JPG

As @Tiggerfanatic noted in her trip report, we were the last group to leave the cabanas, and probably close to last off the island! Memorable time. Friendships made. Had to get back though, for dinner at Palo, and Pirate Night!

Some pics of Castaway Cay from my awesome verandah:

IMG_1792.JPG

Since this was my first Disney cruise, and my big birthday present, I decided I was going to partake of all the upscale dining experiences. If I wanted to rationalize some more  I was doing the legwork to find out if my picky-eating hubby would be able to eat in the adults-only restaurants. Better that I should try them all than risk paying extra for a meal he won’t be able to enjoy, right? Right.

Palo was a fantastic meal. We were seated at a giant table in the rear of the restaurant

IMG_1796.JPG

I had the lamb, it was delicious:

IMG_1797.JPG

Courtney was celebrating Sherry’s birthday. Truly, is there any end to the benefit of rooming with Sherry? ;) Courtney @Howe would say no, there is not.
IMG_1798.JPG

Kelly and me—we should have had Shannon get in this picture, and it would have been all the redheads! ;)
IMG_1155.JPG

Now it was time to get un-glammed and meet the rest of the crew on Deck 12 for Pirate Night!

I have no idea what dance was being done here, but our girls were doing it well! ;)
IMG_1807.JPG

IMG_1806.JPG

After the Pirate Party on deck, we moved on down to Evolution for some karaoke. Jess & Darolyn take the stage:
IMG_1809.JPG

And there may have been some dancing after the karaoke. It was a late night, but most of the best ones are… ;)

Day 4: At Sea, Part 1--Remy Brunch

I was up reasonably early the next morning, this was our day at sea, which meant Remy brunch! Determined to make up for all the good food I’d been enjoying, I hit the Promenade Deck for some laps.
IMG_1811.JPG

One of the tips that Mike the Bartender from Top of the World gave us was, never leave your room without a camera, you never know what you’ll encounter. Thanks for that advice, Mike; where else can you come across a parade of princesses?

IMG_1145.JPG

Rainbow at sea!

IMG_1814.JPG

Interestingly, Tammy caught the end result of the princess parade in her trip report Cruising With the 27 Ladies of Leisure!. Yes, I do love to cross-reference things—I worked in the library in high school, that’s why. In case you were wondering. :p

After at least five laps (I lost count, but five laps is two miles), I knew I wasn’t going to make it all the way ‘til brunch, so I popped up to Cabanas for some Mickey waffles, and ran into two of our group, Stacy & Elizabeth, as they were finishing up their breakfast.

Shortly after, all cleaned up, I found myself in Meridian for the third time. A large group of WDWMagic girls would gather, as some of us were going to Remy for brunch, and even more of us were going to Palo for brunch. After sorting out some confusion with the uh...let's call them "gatekeepers of Remy & Palo" about who was dining where, those of us brunching with Remy were escorted in to the restaurant and were led into the wine room where we each were given a glass of champagne with a dish of Serrano ham while the chef described the meal to us.

Wines from John Lasseter’s winery were on display:

IMG_1819.JPG

We were seated at the same table we’d had for dinner the other night, with the same waiter, Clement. As he pointed out, today would be a bit more relaxed, as they’d swapped their tuxedos for shirtsleeves. The restaurant’s atmosphere was also much different in daylight than it had been in the evening. See that little cushioned bench? That’s to rest your purse on.

IMG_1825.JPG

Brunch was OUTSTANDING. I got the champagne pairing as well, and I consider it to be the biggest bargain on the cruise. Five glasses of champagne for $25. Just do it. ;)

Here’s the menu:

IMG_1821.JPG

Tammy, now you can identify all your food pics from brunch! ;)

I didn’t get photos of each course, because I was enjoying the experience. Sherry got’em all, though! Follow the link to @Tiggerfanatic 's TR if you want to see the food pictures: 27 Ladies on a Disney ship - Yo, Ho, Ho and a bottle of Rum!

Afterwards, we got the staff to take pictures with us:
IMG_1832.JPG

L-R, Missy @polymissy, Tammy, our wonderful waiter Clement, me, and Sherry @Tiggerfanatic

IMG_1834.JPG

L-R, Sherry, Me, Clement, Missy, Cyril the prissy sommelier, and Tammy.
(Cyril and I had some differences in opinion over wine pairings at our Remy dinner the other night)

Fancy bottles. Don’t want to know how much these cost!
IMG_1836.JPG

Back to the room to change out of the “casual fancy” duds and make it to WDWMagic Girls Exclusive Mixology Class.

Gratuitous aft verandah shot. Really, if it wasn’t for Mixology, I probably would have spent the afternoon out here:

Day 4: At Sea, Part II--Mixology

DreamGirls gather in PINK, everyone eyeballing the bartenders suspiciously—“are you really gonna teach us anything we don’t already know, fella?” Especially since those of us who'd been here the other evening recognized the bartenders...o_O

Kelly & Missy, havin’ a good time:

@Ariel484, the official Mixology photographer (that is some serious hardware you're sporting there, Shannon LOL) :)

The “virgin drinks” shift: ;)

IMG_1852.JPG

Two wonderful Kingdom Konsultants, Jenell @GrumpysWife and Tammy @Disneyfalcon, shaking it up:

IMG_1856.JPG

After Mixology, we headed for the atrium to take a group shot with our light-up DCL ears that @KingdomKonsultant had considerately provided. I don’t have a copy of the group shot yet, but Kelly posted it in her trip report: I ESCAPED!!! (part 1) - The Dream Girls

While we were assembling for the shot, I captured this one—all three of the WDWMagic Jessicas:
IMG_1859.JPG

@PartOfYourWorld, @plaz10, @jesemeca

Back to the fabulous aft verandah to get ready for the evening’s show, Believe, and then on to dinner at Animator’s. Once again, I couldn’t resist several shots of the amazing sunset:
IMG_1861.JPG

IMG_1863.JPG

Headed down to Evolution again for some after-dinner entertainment, in full denial that packing had to be done for morning. Sherry @Tiggerfanatic, Courtney @Howe, Jess @plaz10, Ashley @TiggerLuv18 and I made up a team for the 80s music trivia game, and we came in 3rd place! Mistook "Hungry Like the Wolf" for "Rio", stumbled on George Michael's "Faith", and the one that only the winner got --"Tarzan Boy", performed by Baltimora. I guarantee you I will never forget that again for as long as I live. :bookworm:

The only photo I have of the evening is the bread knife & plate from Animators.
