Did anyone else happen to see Mr. Lincoln on America's Funniest Home Videos a couple of days ago? It was a video from '91 or '92, and he decided to take a backwards bow in the middle of his speech.

I'm a little surprised that Disney let the show air that. :lookaroun

That's hard to watch when you know what's going on! That thing CRUSHES that chair there under the pressure. Imagine what it would do to you if you were standing there.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that behavior the default action when something goes wrong with the Lincoln animatronic?

Not related to Mr. Lincoln, but when I was at The Hall of Presidents a couple weeks ago, when the curtain went up and they were doing the roll call, a squirrel had gotten into the building and went onto the stage and was walking and running amongst the presidents. People in the audience were laughing. All I was thinking was if he jumped onto one of the animatronics and started clawing at him, he could probably do quite a bit of damage...

Well, it's going down for a refub. soon, so I guess they could fix any damage done (and trap the squirrel).

It's a great Video...Again scary when you actually know why he is doing that.

If I'm not mistaken, the default is to E-Stop the show when something goes wrong, but unlike the American Adventure, Hall of Presidents does not have a CM in the house to monitor problems.

From the looks of the video, it may have been a slow leak of hydraulic fluid. Failsafe for Lincoln, Washington, and the current president is bent over forward at the waist and arms out to the side - meant to prevent any self damage or damage to props. The other presidents don't really have a failsafe since all they can do is head nod, some hand/arm movements and waist twist.

The chair he broke (as well as any other prop that close to a figure) is built as a break-away incase the figure malfunctions like that. I once saw George Washington sit a little bit too far and the chair collapsed. He was sitting on air!

The Hall of Presidents does have a Cast Member, usually in the back of the house, watching the show. There is no e-stop for the show, all they can do is mute the show audio and close the curtains.

Yeah..."refurb."

I wonder if deep down WDW is hoping for Obama to win, NOT for any political consideration, but because if they have to make a McCain AA, they'll probably have to have a Palin AA made up and ready to go?

 That was great!
Interesting stuff about how the chairs are specially made to collapse, and things like that.

Didn't someone once mention that one of the AAs in the Carousel of Progress threw their hand off as they were moving?

O yeah because they won't have to have a Biden one made up to replace Obama, and then a Peloski one to replace Biden. Basically whomever wins has to have back-ups made for them...

This may be a dumb question but do they make back-ups? That would seem a bit odd. If so, where are all the past ones that were not used?

my little joke aside, I've no idea. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some preliminary work done on AAs that look like the new vice president, mainly so that they can refurb the ride that much faster if a veep becomes the president. But I don't know if they get them completed, with voiceover recordings from the politician in question, so they can almost immediately introduce the new president.

^That's actually a running joke in our family... Disney rigged Election '04 so they didn't have to sculpt Bush 43 again.
