American Idol Experience To Close

I know over the years there have been many elaborate and really cool sounding projects that at the last minute got scaled back or cut all together...

Star Wars is really popular, so are the SW weekends, and it would be dumb to not add on more SW to the park but what exactly? The Star Tours ride is also a really popular ride, with a gift shop in the exit and the Jedi Training academy next to the queue, how much stuff, how many unique rides and attractions can they realistically do beyond what the already have?

Even though people seem to be turning their noses up at it a bit, I think a restaurant is a great idea, especially given how popular Be our Guest is. A Star Wars restaurant with a Cantina band room, and a Jabba the Hut band room, with animatronics of those characters would be great, but coming up with a dark ride or a rollercoaster that can compete with Star Tours seems like the hard part of a Star Wars land to me.

But I think these new films are going to have be really successful and have some kind of new content/vehicles to base a ride around, in order for it to be a big a land as people are hoping for

They have a whole galaxy of locations and ideas. Surely something will come to mind.

That was the lack lustre plan of a new eaterie and indoor training academy thingie with no actual attractions.

Now if they took Idol and say the Indy area and associated expansion pad too as also proposed...

I'd rather wait for a full area with actual rides than have that lack luster plan built today. Even if it takes 3 years before breaking ground it will still be worth it over getting just the Cantina and an indoor training academy. If you include Indy and the backstage area you have a pretty large area to play with.

Agreed, because there is no doubt that if it is the plan b crap SWL, then you can be sure as heck that DHS is going to be looked at as the worst park ever and Uni will throw in 500 hundred new HP commercials with ilittle hints at that...

There are a number of shows and venues in Central Florida that are not my favorite. The theming, the content, the execution of all the shows in town are not all equally impressive.

However, they employ actors. They employ artists. They provide a place for talented people to perform, express themselves, and get paid.

To celebrate the closing of any performance or arts venue is inconsiderate, insecure, mindless of the big picture, and sad.

And if you think the Equity performers in this show will just be "moved to another show" then you have no idea how Equity contracts work.

I'm not sure I would go that far, if performances never closed then we would not get innovation and improvements.

Closing a rubbish attraction like this with poor attendance will be more than made up for in the next show or parade that they open. Yup it sucks for some cast who may find themselves out of a job for a while, but if they really are that talented then I am sure they will find another job pretty quickly.

Then there is the cost savings with check ins and those pesky credit card transaction fees. That is tens of million in saving and then of millions in profits. I wonder how much longer it's going to take for some people to admit they were wrong about the it.

Wait, unless I've missed something...how does it save on credit card transaction fees?

Generally the card companies charge a % fee of the transaction. So it doesn't matter if its 1.5% on a 100 transactions totalling $1000, or 1 transaction for $1000. The total is exactly the same.
The only way it could save money is if they used the bands to go cashless in the park.

i.e. everyone gets a magic band, required to link them to a debit/credit card upon entering the park - then no cash inside the park.....that really would save a small fortune.

Someone said earlier the Cantina and Jedi academy is basically phase 1 with phase 2 (rides) sometime after Avatar. If the Cantina is done well I wouldn't mind getting that first while we wait for the real attractions, but they better be amazing.

I'm hearing Jedi Training will move in so that it doesn't appear the building will be "empty". Sounds Dangerous will continue to be used for signup.

A Star Wars land won't happen until at least 2019, but don't be surprised if Backlot Express becomes the Cantina at the same time Jedi Training takes over AIE.

That folks is your Phase One, and it's the most your gonna get while Pandora is under construction.

Just getting back to this thread and haven't read it all yet, but my question would be whether Jedi Training would be "plussed" or would it be the same show but indoors. There was talk of an AA or animated (a la Turtle Talk) Yoda being part of the show and that IMHO would be a nice improvement, especially if other effects can be added with an indoor location. If the Cantina is getting built, I would hope that Jedi Training would be enhanced at the same time.

I don't trust these guys with a phase 2. In order to justify the total cost of a decent SW Land they need to show a big opportunity for making money from both merchandise and food. SWW should be a good base for how much money could be made from SW merchandise. If they did just Cantina and indoor Jedi Training now there is a risk that it would be too successful and they look at the much more expensive phase 2 and say "we're already printing money without the expensive rides, let's skip building that".

Now if they announce a full SW Land but choose to fast track the Cantina and/or new indoor JTA to open before the rest of the land (like FLE) I'm on board with that. As long as the ground is already broken for the actual rides.

Sadly I could definitely see TDO doing that. I agree, bring on the full announcement. Cantina could open early as long as everything else is already under construction.

A plussed show would be good. Honestly, the biggest drawback of the show now is the outdoor location. As someone who had to stand there to watch it, there is no shade. It's really hot. It is also cancelled when it rains so you get some unhappy kids. The availability is pretty limited now so I would assume an indoor location would be cooler, no worries about rain and hopefully it will have a higher capacity so more kids could participate. If a larger StarWars area is built there will be even more demand for this show so they will need to address capacity.

I hadn't heard about the Yoda AA, but the part where they play Yoda's voice always gets a good reaction from the crowd. I would also think they could mix up some of the bad guys and have surprise appearances. They could also use a better gift shop attached to the show. I know you can build a light saber at the store attached to Star Tours, but they could use some additional JTA merchandise like shirts or posters.

Credit card companies have a minimum charge and a percentage chagre. That is one of the biggest complaints and why some stores have a minimum chagre. At events like food and wine and flower and garden that have food booths these charges can really add up. But if Disney can add the charges to your room they can save these pesky little charges and the percentage they pay is also smaller on very large purchases. Using me as an example. My wife and i eat ootsur way around the world during food and wine and make lots of small purchases. Take together we must run over 40 charges a day including her other purchases. If hundreds of thousands of customers do that in can add up to some huge numbers.

There's another thread about this somewhere... people are raising the "BS flag" lol. Not sure if that particular source isn't reliable (that's what everyone seems to be saying)... if this is true, I'm glad we saw this last week. IJ is one of DH's favorite franchises (except for the last movie lol)
OOPS!:banghead: lol
