American Idol details plus concept art

The first round auditions are actually with Idol producers who intentionally weed out the best professional and near-professional singers - trust me, the best people DO NOT make it in front of Randy, Paula, and Simon.

I knew that the judges weren't the first to see those that audition, but what would the reasoning be behind getting rid of the best? If that was the case, then I don't know how some of the past contestants got through then.

Everyone who gets through has at least a bit of a rough edge to them, some unfinished quality - like even no neck was too timid and meek to be a diva and own the stage. So, she had no presence yet, which really hindered her and made her voerall performances weaker.

Fix the timid, fix the whole performance.

Polished and professional? Axed within the first round, every time.

Honestly, to compare, i know it's not exactly the same - but goto a Broadway call looking for actors/singers and you'll see vastly more talented people showing up looking vastly more professional then anything that makes it on the air for Idol (and yes, you'll see a few goons thrown in too - but no one will put up with their crap and put a mic in their face).

And my big Idol complaint - who the hell told people you're supposed to goto an audition dressed like that?!?!?!

Hollywood, Broadway, Bollywood, Vegas, or even the Moulin Rouge! Nowhere on earth are you supposed to show up dressed like that and expect to get cast!

I don't think they expect to be cast, I think they want their 30 seconds of air time and have learned by watching the show that they'll get it if they act like a fool.

American Idol Looks Good

The fact that everyone on this board hates this idea is showing that Disney is doing things right by pushing the boundaries of what the typical person expects of Disney. It's great that Disney is getting away of making the other parks to be MK clones and that DHS is becoming a more contemporary park.

This attraction will bring in huge numbers to DHS just by the amount of wannabe singers that will have a better chance of making it with American Idol as opposed to going through their vigorous process.

This theatre will surely be used for special events outside of the American Idol attraction. Summer Concerts, Night of Joy, Broadway Shows. From the concept art, we can see that this will be a major upgrade to the theater with all the acoustics upgraded as well. This essentially will be called the American Idol theater, but could be used for multiple purposes.

Umm...

What do you know about theaters...?

There's really not much to them... Except that hard flat surfaces = horrible acoustics.

Most theaters are big warehouses that are empty until whatever production that is using it comes in and brings everything it needs in with it. Acoustics? What are they going to do?

Go around bouncing pink noise off the walls and shaping the walls into blocky panels until it perfectly resonates in each seat of the theater?

Seriously.

Oh wait, hold up Mr. Lasseter, my pink noise generator's batteries died. Hold a sec. Ok, we're good.

Was that good? Ok, now seat 37 D, oh, that was 37 D? Crud, I though that was 37 C... ok, let me recalculate and see if i dont have to recarve this entire concrete wall again. Those concrete mixers are getting tired of coming back here.. I know, I know.. They get paid by the hour, but they say we should know what we're doing by now, especially with the number of times we moved those ugly Legacy blocks.. Alright.. 37 E..

I think you're overestimating Ender's intelligence and underestimating his desire to be a dissenting voice for the sake of stirring up trouble.

And since I'm the person whose post started this entire diatribe and since I'm actually articulate when I choose to be and also since I don't need WDWmagic's resident egghead Mr. Figment fighting my battles for me, let me take this opportunity to chime in.

Ender, using a plural pronoun is nothing more than a rhetorical device. So calm down, put your Book of Quotations away, and give it a rest.

I notice when asked your opinion of Disney Idol, you dodged the question. You merely said it would be popular (which is an ad populum logical fallacy since we have such a well-educated group of rhetoricians here today) and that your personal bias wouldn't allow you to judge this addition to the park. What difference does that make? You were asked your opinion and were under no obligation to answer objectively, since opinions are by definition subjective.

American Idol's popularity is not the subject under debate. Its appropriateness in a Disney park is. Hardcore is also popular. Shall that be the next addition to MGMDHS?

Before you can respond (I see you getting red in the face over there), I'll admit, that's a slippery slope argument. But the point still remains, what positive qualities does Idol add to the park's atmosphere? The building looks like it's straight out of CityWalk, certainly not the stuff of a carefully designed theme park.

Of course we should all just wait until the attraction opens. Then we can figure out the best way to vandalize this dump. Right, Ender? You're a fan of the Vandals, aren't ya? Just joking, darling.
You're really showing yourself... you know? Comparing this to ? Vandilizing the dump?

Give it a rest already. :brick:

Sorry I just didn't get through all the posts but what IS the age limit? Is this not ageism and illegal? No ride says you can't be over, say 40, to ride a ride. American Idol the show is different and can set their own standards, but Disney is a public park that people pay to get into--this just doesn't seem right.

If nothing else, the opening of this "attraction" will lead to a lot of really interesting and ticked off posts here from people who didn't win or were treated badly during the show.

You hafta read more carefully. You overlooked what I said about it being a slippery-slope argument.

And the vandalism line is an inside joke with Mr. Ender that developed in reference to the SSE screens. All in good fun, I assure you.

Apologies if this is already posted but there are so many pages on this subject it was difficult to see! I've been looking around the sites for peoples thoughts on this new addition and don't think I've seen such a mixed reaction. It will be interesting to see if the attraction will still be going strong a year after opening!
Found a video http://www.doingflorida.com/#/doingfloridanews/4520501531 that has the pictures of how it will look but also some scary interviews with guests! Not a great quality video but nice Tower of Terror and Rock'n'roller coaster shots. :)

Why is that the point? Because you have an opinion and assume that it should be everyone else's as well? :brick:

Positive Qualities: filling and updating a previously unused space, bringing in a proven brand that will also bring renewed interest to a struggling park (already is, apparently), adding a true entertainment-based attraction.

Concept Art: You can certainly love it or hate it, but let's give Disney an opportunity to actually complete the thing first. I think it may just surprise people (strictly my opinion).

This attraction certainly will not appeal to every guest, and it's not intended to. I'm sure Disney is well aware that while there are millions that watch and love the show, there are just as many who will avoid it at all costs.

But that's the beauty of a Disney theme park if you ask me. There are plenty of attractions that I've only experienced once, and never went back. But I respect the fact that Disney obviously feels it appeals to someone, and it may just make that someone's vacation great.

I just feel it's better to give this thing a chance, before we start making t-shirts and petitions knocking something that is still simply a piece of concept art.

I'm not going to attempt to read through this, but had to add that this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

How close are we to April Fools? :hammer:

What is American Idol doing at Disney? Isn't owned by FOX? But I think it's going to be exciting at first, but then get kind of boring to see it a second time.:snore:

Video kiosks definitely involved

Not all of the auditioning will be done directly in front of Cast Members, as I mentioned earlier...

From Disney’s online Cast Member web site, The Hub:
“That experience will include an audition process, open to all who register, where Guests perform “live” in video kiosks in full view of a panel of screeners.”

The initial registration and auditions will not take place in front of Cast Members or guests directly, but rather via video kiosks. It’s unclear as to whether the “screeners” are real people or virtual singing “experts”.

So it could all be done by "virtual technology" and video. Very very good news! I still hope the "show" judges are part of the "living character initiative" technology.

I don't think this will be the sort of attraction I will like to watch or participate in, but DHS is for everyone and I think it will be very popular. I love DHS already but with TSM coming this year, 1-2 new fresh attractions and a maybe a few current ride upgrades and this park could be back to being fantastic :)
