No thanks, we'll keep collecting the real thing.

Like I said - It's your choice. As a paying customer, you have every right to a fastpass as anyone else does, provided you don't do anything against policy.

It's just personal preference. I wouldn't get a FP for Soarin' or TSMM just for the sake of taking it home. I've been on the end of the stick where there are no FP's left and the wait is over 2 hours. I wouldn't feel right about doing that to someone.

However, don't be surprised at some point to see Disney start using FP the same way they do Photopass. You get a card and it is simply scanned for your FP return time, sort of similar to the way Universal does it.

Ah, well we don't get Fp's just for the sake of getting them. They're all from not being able to make the ride. For example, we had KS FP's in March, but the ride was down during our window and beyond. We had to leave the park early to get to the WWoS for our second day of cheer so we couldn't make it.

That's totally different. I do that (as I'm sure we all do). Sort of like making an ADR that you miss because something comes up. It happens.

With ADR's, I always feel guilty about missing those. But the other side of me says, "It's Disney's fault for giving away free dining." If they didn't do that, it wouldn't be necessary to make ADR's so far in advance. And after all, it's a vacation, not military school.

New Fastpass RFID

The paper ones will soon be history after the new RFID systems are installed and the bracelets won't be easy to put in a scrapbook.

No because you didn't take a ride away from anyone. You can still wait online if there are no FP.

That's not true for everyone. Some people can't wait because they are physically not able to wait 2 hours, or some people aren't able to stay that late in the park. For rides that are in high demand, you actually are taking something away from someone else!

For people who are not physically able to wait 2 hours, there are guest assistance cards. Fastpass was not designed to be a relief for those type of guests, as there is already a system in place for them. For families with young children, there are rider switch passes. For everyone else, if you can't handle waiting in line, don't go to a theme park.

How late someone else can stay in the park is not my concern or responsibility. An unused fast pass does not prevent them from having access to the ride.

Good idea!

If you're concerned about your concience, just ask a CM to print you out a dud Fastpass or use a expired ticket to get one. It'll have the date and time and everything, it'll just say "Not a Valid Fastpass" on it.

That'll be the best idea I think. I just have one from TSM! 2011 because we never got around to using it- we pooped out (night)! I guess I should've given it to someone else, but I didn't think of that at the time!:(

very true!

Although I don't think you should take my advice.... I don't think it's a good idea to do that at rides that has their fast passes all gone by 11. I know that Soaring has many days that there are no fast passes by that time, so yes, in that case you are making it so someone else can't get one. I think for any other ride that you can still get one at 4 or 5 should be fine.... but, maybe you could ask a CM for a fast pass from the day before? (providing you were there then?) I miss out on going on Soaring all the time due to lack of fast passes.... so yes, people do miss out on rides.

I agree.

well said!

That is not completely accurate. If an attraction runs out of Fastpasses and the standby line is 2 hours, chances are the person that would have gotten the fastpass now won't go on the ride.

Again, they have every right to take the fastpass home with them, so in that respect, no, they're not doing anything wrong. However, to say it wouldn't effect the process if they didn't get one for a keepsake, is not accurate all of the time. For something like Mickey's Philharmagic where few people use FP, it means nothing. For a ride like Soarin' or Toy Story Mania, it absolutely can mess the system up. Granted, I'm sure not enough people do this to make a difference, but it's one of those things that if you start doing it, then someone else does it, then so on and so on, it can become a problem.

yep- agreed!:)

Gosh- I thought FP were for EVERYONE'S enjoyment and consideration of others!
Some people are early birds, some are night owls: hence Early/Evening EMH. Another nice DISNEY perk for everyone to enjoy!
That's a harsh statement about not being able to handle waiting in line!

I think Disney is getting it right by soon (hopefully) implementing the new RFID system.

So, you think a family with two young children can handle standing in line for two hours???? You obviously do NOT have children.

Yes, there is a system in place. It's called the FAST PASS SYSTEM. It allows people to get a pass so they won't have to stand in line. However, if people take them as keepsakes, those people will NOT be able to use this system. It's not fair to people who can't get a pass by 11:00am... you are one rude person to say it'sn not your concern. People SHOULD be other people's concern... it's how the world is going in the wrong direction. Responsible people don't take things they don't need, stoping other people from being able to "use the system in place"! Grow up.

I have 2 children. I took them to Disney World about 10 times between age 1 and age 5. We waited in all sorts of lines, up to 2 hours long, even in the middle of July. Now they are pre-teens and we go to theme parks every couple weeks and have no issues waiting in lines. I am just someone who never used "but I have kids" as an excuse to whine about things and feel entitled. If my kids wanted to go on a ride, they waited in the line. If they didn't want to wait in the line and behave themselves, they didn't go on the ride. End of story.

No, the system in place for handicapped and people who cannot wait in long lines is called the guest assistance card or the handicapped entrance. The system in place for families who have small children is called the rider switch pass. Fastpass has nothing to do with any of that.

Common sense tells a person that the early bird catches the worm. If you want to guarantee you'll have a fast pass, get out of bed and get to the park early. If you aren't willing to do that, don't expect that you'll have the same options available to you that were available to the 10,000 people who got up earlier than you.

When I was a kid, there was no such thing as fastpasses at Disney World. If I wanted to ride, I waited in the line. But now that fastpasses exist, people no longer have the capacity to wait in a normal line? BS.

For the record, I don't take fastpasses out of machines for souvenirs. But I also don't beat myself up if I have some left in my pocket at the end of the day that I never got around to using. It's a really silly thing to get worked up about.

And grow up? No thanks. I'm clinging to my youth.

I was part of the crew that installed all the ticket printers and ticketing equipment for the 2010 winter Olympics. I totally regret not keeping some of the ticket stock. They were beautiful tickets and had a foil holographic stamp. I say go for it.
