Also speaking of the E.T. Adventure, here is a demolition photo taken around 2003 when it was being gutted for Revenge of the Mummy.

Completely different events. Universal's is the most likely to be cancelled due to a focus on people in confined mazes being touched by employees.

Universal's is more easy to fix than Knotts, because of their reliance on the "boo box" scare (having a scare actor hidden behind an opening and coming out at set intervals, with accompanying sound and light effects), which by design create a level of remove from guests. With the money they have, they can keep that setup, add some more animatronics, and work on a solution so that the mazes don't turn into a conga line.

That said, none of the major theme park haunts (Universal, Knotts, MM, Queen Mary) do touching in mazes out of liability concerns. That goes both ways - they're very quick to kick out guests who touch the scare actors.

The biggest question for all of these haunts has been how you make it profitable while staying safe. For Knotts, Scary Farm is huge for their bottom line, so they almost can't afford not to do one, while Universal seems to have figured out how to make bank off the event as well. For Disney, their Halloween events were more a cash grab and not an absolute requirement for keeping the parks afloat - the impending move of the event from Disneyland to DCA seemed to be an admission of that fact - and they could easily afford not to run the event and still come out ahead.

The Botanicuses in Florida aren't in exactly great shape. Not skinned and left out in the backyard bad, but they barely move anymore.
The whole ride isn’t being maintained well at all. Quite recently, one of the baby E.T.’s arms snapped in half...

If Universal was smart they'd realize that Nintendo is the one IP that could put them truly toe-to-toe with Disney (yes, even more than Potter.) I would've invested in an entire park dedicated to Nintendo. Mario as the main attraction, Donkey Kong for coasters, Legend of Zelda for a high quality dark ride, Metroid for a 3D shooter, Star Fox for screen based simulator rides, Animal Crossing is a goldmine for merch, etc. Each Nintendo property is filled with so much creative characters and worlds that the attractions pretty much write themselves.

If they could somehow work out a deal with GameFreak to have some Pokemon representation (maybe even just a Pokemon Center filled with Pokemon merchandise and some animatronics scattered around) and now you have the highest grossing media franchise in history (Pokemon brings in more money than Star Wars, Mickey Mouse, Mario, Disney Princesses, Marvel, Harry Potter, etc.) to support your park.

Universal has the rights to Pokémon. Orlando was slated to get the Mario and Donkey Kong land at Epic Universe, Legend of Zelda at Islands of Adventure and Pokémon at Universal Studios Florida.

Dunno where you think there'd be space in Hollywood. That place is capped out unless they get rid of Citywalk.

Let's hope they get some Switches in production to generate excitement and interest. I finally decided to buy a console game (first time since the Atari 2600, no joke), and I cannot find a Switch anywhere! Covid-related production problems, I'm sure, but still.

EDIT:
And before you say anything ... #firstworldproblems, yeah I know.

Nintendo always seems to under produce popular systems. They march to their own drummer.
