My theory was previously that the Mariokart ride was originally developed to be faster and more intense and not the speed and intensity of an old lady pushing a shopping cart. Now I'm not sure it was ever really intended to be a Mariokart ride, but rather a generic Mario dark ride, and they just branded it as Mariokart after it had already been developed as Mario's Adventure Ride.

There's very little that distinguishes it as Mariokart, like some trophies and signage, and the look of the cars. Obviously, this could all have been modified to alter the theme of a pre-developed unrelated Mario dark ride that moves slower than a statue and is now supposed to be a racing ride.

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. The Cars ride still feels like that. A car ride. The kart aspect of Mariokart Old Lady Pushcart ride just seems like a byproduct of the experience. Well, we needed a car for the guests, so why not a Mario kart. I've played the video game and it's nothing like the ride at all, which is mostly a very slow dark ride through Mario scenes and doesn't seem like it was ever intended to be a racing ride. It's all wrong!

this is what the mariokart ride should have been...imagine this, the person in front steers and the person in back does weapons. same augmented reality, throwing a green sheel at another car makes it spin out haha, that could be really really great. and in this video, you can see that it even works in pouring rain! this would have been so amazing but instead we get a super slow moving darkride....this is as big a f up as anything disney has done recently imo

This would be a worthy replacement of Autopia

This is exactly what the ride should have been.

Isn't it a double standard when something like this happens at other theme parks it doesn't get that much attention but when it happens to a Disney park it gets national attention and is even on the news. To top it all off, they get all the criticisms.

I’m looking forward to the Parks & Rec musical stage show.
I’m all for giving Chris Pratt another attraction 😅

I was tripping out when I first watched it due to it all taking place infront of the police station. I was like “When did Universal built one & how convenient.” But Disney is the top dog, it will make the headlines over anything.

A truly awful video I feel bad for the poor kid. His parents are completely acting inappropriate and rude. I do think the cops were too aggressive in the situation IMO. But I have no idea what precipitated the whole event.
