Space Mountain - Refreshed TTA - Skyway Station Removed

Original Post (May 25, 2009)

I thought I would make a thread to discuss all the happenings at Magic Kingdom. I will use this first post to provide the freshest (and legitimate) rumors that are being discussed about the MK. Lets begin!

Haunted Mansion may be getting even better soon. It is highly likely that a 21st century version of the mythical Hatbox Ghost will be added to the Disneyland mansion this September for the ride's 40th. anniversary. It would be safe to assume that MK's mansion will be getting this new addition to the attic as well :sohappy:. There are also rumblings that other tweaks will be coming as well including a redone version of the Hitchhiking Ghosts segment to now include an interactive element with guests.

A New (New) Tomorrowland could be in the works. I remember seeing a pic posted on this very site showing a new lamppost being added to the land that had a different look and style to the other lamps in the area. Some of the insiders have said this is part of a larger plan. When Space Mountain comes out of refurbishment could its new theming be a hint of whats to come??

After Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are slated to be recieving nice overhauls. These two attractions recently underwent minor refurbishments. I hope for the best with both projects.

Finally, Fantasyland is (hopefully) going to be redone soon to bring it up to the standards of the other Fantasylands around the globe. Will we be traveling to new fairytale worlds by the time the 40th. rolls around?? Only time will tell. If anyone knows more about the status of this project by all means pipe in.

Project Tracker (compiled by Martin)

-The Hall of Presidents: Redone and refreshed attraction staring Morgan Freeman and the Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Barack Obama! Opening Date: July 2, 2009

-Space Mountain: Retooling and refurbishment underway. Details unknown. Tentative opening: November 2009

HM tweaking
Fland theming

Somebody lit a fire under the conundrum.:lookaroun

So are you saying SM may have a whole new aesthetic when it reopens?

I hope it isn't the comic book-land theme of the past 5 years.

Although TL at WDW has a unique problem in that there is (or should be) a genuine Tommorowland at Epcot. So the comic book version isn't the worst thing if they revitalize Future World.

And I am sure I have now befuddled any casual reader to no end.:p

ReDis?? You're back??? LOL...

I thought you were Enigma coming back to haunt us again LOL...

If he starts talking about a Lone Ranger animatronic :hurl: being added to BTM then we will know it's Redis.

Oh wait...........nevermind.:zipit:

:ROFLOL:nope I ain't redis (although I think hes back on the forums calling himself an "insider" now) and the only place I heard of lone ranger being added to BTMR was on this very forum.

Jungle Cruise could potentially get a movie tie-in but that would depend on many variables.

Anyone ever hear the rumor that Disneyland's Jungle Cruise was supposed to get a Tarzan or George of the Jungle overlay back in 2000? I think I saw that on Screamscape back then. I always wondered if it was actually considered.

So are you saying SM may have a whole new aesthetic when it reopens?

It's safe to say it will have a different look when it reopens. Wether it reflects the 50s jetsons theme of the rest of the land or a more 21st century sci fi approach is anyones guess. (I'm leaning towards the later).

Everything right now, is frozen to my understanding.:(

If they weren't frozen, I think that this list and a few other projects would be going on.

I really hope they don't get into the theming style of DL's. Their realistic look on the future is ugly, boring, and unnecessary. The 50's style theme to New Tomorrowland is exactly what Disney needs, fantasy. Epcot's future world is focused on Innovation and that is how it should stay, not trying to make a Dl Tl clone here in Walt Disney World. The new theme is a great oppurtunity for creativity instead of looking at a future that could happen. Because of this ours has less chance of being outdated, considering it is a work of the imagination. Dl's Tomorrowland can easily become outdated when something changes. (Innoventions as an example)

I agree but I don't mind the Innovention exhibits become outdated. Since it tends to feature new interactive technology that becomes obsolete so that is why you see things updated all the time. The post show of SSE has effectively tried to get far out ahead of that curve however and I think that is a great idea too. All of Innoventions should strive for the quality and forward thinking of the SSE post show IMO. Those exhibits set a high bar.

Hasn't a thread like this already been made (minus the "aka Has Disney Given up on Space Mountain?")?

Yeah. You are right.

One more point about the possible LR animatronic. Although I would hate to see it in the BTM ride, seeing it behind BTM from the riverboat would not be objectionable IMO.

I have a feeling the LR animatronic rumor has some truth to it.

Good point. The only problem I have with Innoventions is that it is made to fit with the Epcot theme, not Tomorrowland.

Future World should be the Tomorrowland Walt Disney first had in mind for Disneyland but on a much much bigger scale. While the WDW Tomorrowland should be a timeless fanciful view of the future with the area being renamed and not called Tomorrowland.

Perhaps Stitchland would be more appropriate at this point.

You're right. Tomorrowland (future world) should be a look at science and innovation. Our Tomorrowland should keep the theme and look and simply change most of the existing attraction. Alien Encounter and Timekeeper were great examples of ways to theme the land with attractions and be creative at the same time. Dl's TL would have gotten this treatment if Tomorrowland 2055 came to fruition which didn't happen due to budgets. In my opinion Discoveryland is the only version to top ours.

Agreed. But they need to patch it up a little bit. Right now it looks a but too retro. Give it some elements from Tokyo's TL and it should look pretty nice.

.
Disney actually said that in a article a few years back.

What kind of elements from Tokyo? Hopefully not the all white/all blue color scheme.

:lookaroun:lol:

Well, they have some very awesome chrome metalwork all around the Land. Sometimes I believe that our TL might have too much going on color wise.

Gotta admit, still looks awesome at night though :)..

Meanwhile.. this thread really is pointless, the items mentioned are frozen until the economy gets out of the toilet.. save for the SM refurb.... and yes, there already is a thread like this... why do we need another one?

I do admit that. We always save it for sunset so we can see the lights and then sneak into the hub for Wishes.:D

Eh, always nice to theorize...

It's either this or we end up with endless Lone Ranger and Stitch threads. Not to mention the,"Where are they going to put Mickey's Night Before Christmas Show now?", threads.
