All DHS, all the Time

Not in this thread. It was a few days ago. But the way people get attacked for even daring to say they think Disney announcements are on the way has made most people a bit "gun shy". :dazzle:

Hmmm, must of missed it. I still think it's ridiculous that they have to wait for Tokyo to foot the bill before we get a new Soarin' video, but that's just me.

As for the MK addition. It's coming. no doubt about it. I'm honestly just wishing that I could say that about other stuff I've heard about.

Actually had the chance to visit Disney's Hollywood Studios for the past two days.

The reason for the name change has its real reasons, but the way it is explained by Disney is that Disney felt constrained with the MGM name. Disney-MGM really promoted the movie/film theme, but what you may notice that the park touches on more that that now. Disney's Hollywood Studios covers not only films, but also television, radio, musicals, video game/internet entertainment, and more. When you really think about it, that really does fit. Sure movies are the prominent theme, but the park covers more than that. Just as there is more to California than Hollywood, there is more to Hollywood than movies.

As for the park itself, The Great Movie Ride needs an update badly. I feel the ride is too slow, the script is boring, the scenes are nice, but could be improved with better animatronics. The tram car I rode was even having microphone problems. I hadn't ridden it since 1999, but I was amazed at how quickly I got bored when I rode again 10 years later. I think some scenes should be kept, but the whole ride (including those scenes) should be completely redone.

Star Tours needs an update and maybe an expansion into a bigger Star Wars area.

Even though Indy still gets "sell-out" crowds, I do think it needs and update. I don't think it needs a copy of the ride from Disneyland. It needs something unique. There also not much room behind the Stunt Show because many of the Cast Member facilities and access roads sit right behind there.

Pixar Place is looking great, but I really needs a wider avenue. It is a pretty narrow area.

The Art of Disney Animation is alright, but could use an update.

The American Idol Experience was actually really cool. I really had my doubts, but the production feel very realistic and true to the show. Crowds pour in the final performance of the night and the grand prize is pretty nifty. I'm just not sure why/how a Fox TV show made it there.

One Man's Dream is a nice exhibit, but might be able to be put somewhere else.

Narnia could go. Backlot could go. Muppets is alright, but may need an update. Honey, I Shrunk is a great to let kids blow off steam, but could be replaced. Sounds Dangerous needs to go.

Finally something needs to be done with the hat. I suppose it works, but something needs to fix the Grauman's Chinese Theater thing.

Sorry this is way off topic from what everyone was recently talking about on this thread but I wanted to share something that might be totally known to everyone except me..:lol:. I just found out after a decade of the ride being opened something about Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. When Joe Perry says "Hey Chris can you grab my black Les Paul?" (Or something along those lines) A cast member (male or female which makes it easy for the unisex name "Chris" to be used) would enter the studio in front of the screen and grab a guitar and leave. They don't do this anymore obviously. I'm not sure how long they actually did it for but I never remember seeing this happen, I just heard about it recently. I don't know I thought I would share that bit of information with you guys if you didn't already know.:wave:

You're right, but I'd just prefer the name "Disney Studios Florida." I think the Hollywood in the name is a bit unnecessary.

It does need work, but I think it merely needs updating and maybe some expansion. I don't think it needs to be redone completely.

Even though Indy still gets "sell-out" crowds, I do think it needs and update. I don't think it needs a copy of the ride from Disneyland. It needs something unique.

I know some people want somthing different, but they can clone the ride but make it different in some ways. Sort of like the TDS version, it has a Mayan theme rather than Indian, theme is centered around the Crystal Skull, has a different queue and preshow, and has a few new encounters like a tornado and a fire ring effect. Maybe somthing similar could be done for the WDW version.

There also not much room behind the Stunt Show because many of the Cast Member facilities and access roads sit right behind there.

Well, the actual footprint of the Indy theater is HUGE so there's plenty of room. And they could simpy move those cast member facilities.

One Man's Dream is a nice exhibit, but might be able to be put somewhere else.

I think its time to move it to Disneyland. Its run its couse at WDW IMO.

Narnia could go. Backlot could go. Muppets is alright, but may need an update. Honey, I Shrunk is a great to let kids blow off steam, but could be replaced. Sounds Dangerous needs to go.

Agreed on all accounts

The whole Chinese Theater copy wright thing is just a myth. They should really just move the hat.

Funny you mention that... I remember the CM too... Hasn't been happening the last 3 or 4 times I been down....

^ As much of a filler attraction it is, I'd rather have stuff like that stay until a few more major attractions are built, if anything to give guests more to do and disperse crowds a little more.

They still do it if they have extra CMs.

Disagree on updating Muppets, unless it involves upgrading some of the effects or making it digital 3D. I mean, that's the last project Jim ever worked on. It's sacred.

And of course he wanted to be remembered for "Waldo the living 3D effect."

^ That's what I could see for Muppets. The film and 3d qualities didn't seem as good as the newer 3D films. (Which is a "duh!" statement, but its true.) I watched it on Friday and the effects didn't seem to pop out of the screen as much as I remember them doing. I also think some effects could be expanded upon such as scent of the pie when the pie comes on screen or when the 3D Guy escapes, he starts to appear out in the audience somehow. Then of course, the film should be remastered if possible, and if possible, maybe create a new scene and put it in the film.

I agree, those would all be fantastic improvements while keeping the integrity of the show intact. It definately needs to go digital with the 3-D effects improved. I also think maybe they could redo some of the CGI on Waldo.

Narnia needs to go!!!

I think it could be cool if they replace it with an attraction where you can walk through recreated sets of famous Disney movies. That would be cool.

Hmmm. They could combine a walk through with the detail of a modern wax museum figures of classic Disney movie characters and scenes.

Is the Narnia walkthrough big enough to move Pizza Planet there?

Yes and that is a great idea!

By the way, does anyone know if the last Toy Story figure has been removed from Muppet Square? I think Buzz is the last one still waiting to be removed.

I just found this little bit of info trying to kill some time in the studio this morning: "While Disneyland seems relatively quiet by comparison, there are a few surprises proposed for the original park in the next few years. The most promising is the new Star Tours 2.0 makeover that has just recently received its funding greenlight from Burbank and is now slated for an arrival in Tomorrowland in the spring of 2011. While that attraction was originally supposed to arrive in spring, 2010, we'd detailed for you in a previous update how a wussy executive team out in Orlando got cold feet at spending as much money on their version as Anaheim had planned to spend on their installation.

While Orlando's executive suites are still full of charmless pencil pushers who make Ed Grier look like Walt Disney Jr. in comparison, a financial deal was finally worked out that is allowing Disneyland to move forward with their original plan for the full-feature and big-budget remake of the popular 1980's E Ticket. You can also thank George Lucas and his creative team for refusing to give in on Orlando's proposal to scale the makeover back for East Coast audiences." It was on this site: http://www.disneyreport.com/

Does anybody know if this will ever make it's way into DHS or a timeline of when we might see this?

Last weekend was interesting to say the least. On Muppet Vision a lot of the effects and Statler (I think?) weren't working, however the fireworks on the ceiling were (This is recent, as they were still off last month. I can see why- they still didn't work properly.). Speaking of Muppets and effects, I have heard whispers of a possible upcoming refurb so the show can go digital and get some upgraded effects.

The same little bird mentioned something about Star Tours and 2011...:lookaroun
