Al Lutz says TDA doesn't want MSE back

See...this is business culture within Disney that I simply do not understand!

How is it beneficial to WDC as a whole to have the heads of the respective 'coasts' sniping at one another and belittling what is essentially their own product!?

I understand you want your particular interests to thrive...but what purpose does it serve to undermine your associates? Especially publically?

Its Al taking a swipe at WDW, not DL management. Al used to hate on DCA, now it is WDW.

While I think that Al can show his favoritism toward the west coast, he isn't completely wrong when it comes to the discrepanices between the resorts. I think that management and CM's in general care more on that coast about the show aspect of the resort. Disneyland has a much tougher crowd to please than WDW does because of all the local AP holders. There are people who have been visiting that park on a regular basis since Day 1 and are very judgemental. Unforunately without that sort of fan base, WDW tends to let a lot of things get stale and lets their maintenance slack.

Oh I know who he was taking his swipe at and it still makes no sense to me.

I think I get the misunderstanding...

Al Lutz has no official connection to Disney, he's just a blogger, and he's not speaking for Disney, just about what he "hears" from his sources.

I love nostalgia, but this might get into the category of pulling out the old atari and trying to get it to hold you attention when your xBox or PS is sitting right next to it.

I still play with my Atari and collect carts for it! Never got around to getting one of those newer systems, although I do have a Nintendo now! ;)

And yes, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the MSEP and watched it 4 times a night on my recent weekend trip in early June (by watching it at the beginning and cutting through Emporium/Adventureland). If TDA doesn't want it back, who am I to question their decision! ;)

I don't know about him swiping WDW guests for being less cultured, I honestly didn't get that, or it just went over my head, from the article, but he's been dead on right with his swiping of TDO, not WDW, from what I'm reading.

I don't know if its more about hard to please APers than it is about WDW being so far away from the head honcho's and people who make decisions, and their love for the parks. WDW almost operates on its own island, far away from the daily scrutiny from the bosses that DL gets.

Like it says in the article, Staggs, Lasseter, Baxter and others are always at DL, they're not at WDW. I wonder how many times a year they actually go to WDW.

Of course he says that. I love how now that it's at wdw, he's basically labeling it as a stale parade that Anaheim wouldn't even wipe it's .... with! Typical

True.

Al "Crybaby" Lutz always contradicts what he says, further adding to his pathetic nature and further proving that NOBODY should be paying attention to him and his equally-pathetic websites.

And didn't Al just say a month ago or so that Anaheim was worried about their parade being at WDW because WDW doesn't know how to take care of stuff? Yet, now all of a sudden Anaheim doesn't care about the parade and has moved on?

I'm not a regluar reader of his column (and only read the excerpt posted here) so I guess I missed his on going swips...

I guess I'm just fed up with TDO and it hit home when my 11 year old voiced the same opinion.

Stop blaming TDO!

How many times do some of us have to remind folks like you that they DON'T have as much power as you assume they do?!

This is interesting to me because for years, the MSEP was the only way to get people to enter the DCA front gates. A ton of park-hopper upgrades were sold on that parade alone. They must really think the World of Color is going to bring people in.

Please don't jump to conclusions like that. It makes you look just as bad as the other mean-spirited members on here.

A lot of WDW CM's and Managers actually DO care about the show aspect of the resort, so don't even try to say that there are no good CM's or Managers at WDW at all--it's outright discrimination!

IMO, you don't deserve to be an Admin here, so I hope you get de-admined for your obvious hatred and attitude problems...

Its doubled the nightly capacity for DCA. Its so successful that they are planning on extending the annual hours for the park.

Althouh I think Al is wrong about TDA not caring as they just updated it and that would be going to waste...

Exactly.

But the real truth is that he's a big fat liar.

I can also see how it might be possible that DL is more "close to home" to Disney's head honchos, thus enabling them to visit it on a more frequent basis to check things out, while WDW is all the way on the other side of the country and they can't always fly down there too much to check things out there.

P.S.: Once again, quit picking on TDO!

I wouldn't be opposed it MEP stuck around for a year or two since my kids already have seen spectro many times they have never seen MEP. We were down there in June and both parades got rained out so heres to hoping we get to see it next year.

^^ This.

Regardless of what people think of Lutz, I don't know how anyone with a level head can think he's wrong with his criticism of WDW... Especially compared to the DL resort and what all is going on there.

In all honesty, most, if not all, of the criticism TDO receives for its management of WDW is perfectly warranted. However, there are many instances where Al Lutz backhandedly derides WDW in ways that have nothing to do with TDO. This article on the MSEP is one such way; he states that TDA and DL no longer have a need for "the aging 20th century Electrical Parade." There was no need to phrase it in that manner. But by doing so, he alludes to the idea that WDW now has a night parade that is outdated and a piece of junk. If the thing was so outdated, why did TDA bring it DCA in 2001 without any significant updates? If it was so outdated, why didn't TDA scrap it last year and create a new parade? If TDA didn't care about the parade, why did they add floats and new lighting to it last year?

Its fine to criticize TDO for its management (or lack thereof). However, don't go saying that now because WDW has the parade, DL no longer needs or wants it when the exact opposite was true as little as one year ago.

Slap me silly, but DL is in desperate need of updates, upgrades and repairs. The park has been neglected for about a decade and a half, and now it is getting what it needs. WDW is CONSTANTLY in a state of update, upgrade and repairs- just not all of this is in guest areas. DL and DCA are theme PARKS. WDW is a full resort, and as such, requires more infrastructure upgrade and update. I wouldn't be so quick to judge based on what we see "on stage", since only a select few know what's going on backstage.

Oh, and DEP (since it's NOT MSEP) is a nice addition. I would still like to see a convergance of EP and Spectro- you know, EP in stereo would be a nice start, and maybe some new music to accompany the world reknowned Baroque Hoedown.
