Al Lutz says TDA doesn't want MSE back

From today's column:

The most recent outcome of that rethink was the easy decision TDA made to allow the Electrical Parade to remain out in Florida until 2012 (if it ever comes back, at this point).

and later in the column...

While the original agreement last winter to send the Electrical Parade out to Florida originally caused some consternation amongst TDA executives, the thought now is that Anaheim has simply moved beyond the parade, although there is a faction in the Entertainment Department emotionally attached to it after their extensive refurbishment and refresh they lovingly gave it in ‘09. But the casual shoulder shrug shown by locals when the parade said goodbye this past April didn’t help much either. It’s now clear to TDA that West Coast audiences have fallen for World of Color, and there’s no longer a need for the aging 20th century Electrical Parade.

Interesting...

Interesting...
If my daughter wanted to stop and watch, by all means I would and enjoy ever minute of it. If it were just me, or the rest of the family wasn't interested, I wouldn't stop to watch. Shorter lines elsewhere.

I love nostalgia, but this might get into the category of pulling out the old atari and trying to get it to hold you attention when your xBox or PS is sitting right next to it.

That is pretty interesting. Makes me wonder if A) we've seen the last of SpectroMagic or B) whether they will cycle parades eventually and give MSEP on some nights and Spectro on the other. That would get more people to revisit MK during the week I would think.

Of course he says that. I love how now that it's at wdw, he's basically labeling it as a stale parade that Anaheim wouldn't even wipe it's .... with! Typical

Yeah, I really hope its not the last we see of SpectroMagic!

You're so right. I've enjoy Al Lutz and his insight for more than a decade, but his attitude towards Orlando is something else.

I didn't catch a swipe at WDW

he's implying that WDW does need the aging 20th century parade because of the staleness of our entertainment offerings and because of the "open arms" the parade received not only from TDO but also the crowds, while DL has moved above and beyond to something new and somewhat cutting-edge...

swipe!

Its a swipe, but he is kind of right...

DL has something new and cutting-edge and WDW fans are excited about seeing a 20th century parade because of the staleness of the entertainment offerings. I know I enjoyed seeing something different when we were down there in June.

Just last night my 11 year old told me that she doesn't want to go to WDW again next year because there is "nothing new to see". She wants to go to DL instead because she saw the Disney Channel thing about the World of Color.

The majority of DL's guests are from southern California.

WDW gets loads of guests from NY, Texas, the eastern seaboard, and Europe.

And Al is trying to imply that Florida's guests are less culturally savvy? :ROFLOL:

That's due to poor management, not because WDW's guests are fatter, sloppier, or less cultural than DL's.

And DL guests were just as happy to get the EP back a few years ago. They're only sick of it because the same passholders go to DL every month.

He is trying to spin his works cause he was wrong about the return date for the parade. The electrical parade was never suppose to return to Disneyland this winter.

oh very true! I definitely am not saying that the swipe was not warranted on many levels! The entertainment offerings are stale here at WDW. But it does seem that Al takes any opportunity he can afford to take a swipe at WDW to make his DL look far superior!

See...this is business culture within Disney that I simply do not understand!

How is it beneficial to WDC as a whole to have the heads of the respective 'coasts' sniping at one another and belittling what is essentially their own product!?

I understand you want your particular interests to thrive...but what purpose does it serve to undermine your associates? Especially publically?

I'm not a regluar reader of his column (and only read the excerpt posted here) so I guess I missed his on going swips...

I guess I'm just fed up with TDO and it hit home when my 11 year old voiced the same opinion.

Precisely. They were thrilled to have it back "where it belonged" a few years ago. In fact, this became a source of gloating for some; "Okay, so WDW has -insert attraction-, but we have the original Electrical Parade!"

As others have said, Lutz is just spinning things to try to save face because he was wrong about the EP returning to California. In the process, he has to subtly degrade WDW in some way.
