Just like everything else Lutz.. I will take it with a grain of salt.. I cannot refer to Mr. Lutz as one of my Favorite Podcast Crew Does as it may get me in trouble.... I for one will be happy with any additions to Walt Disney World. Just because a budget is cut (if true) does not mean that the updates Disney World Gets will stink...

I tend to agree. Mr. Kutz does seem to have an irrational dislike towards FL and WDW, regardless of his beign a native to SoCal.

And I also know that quite often those submitting budgets, be they in private or public fields will often ask for more than they need or even want. This allows them to establish a "base line" of future budgetary requests down the road. So while the FL budget may have been "slashed" according to Mr. Lutz, it may very well be that the funding wasn't entirely necessary for the completion of the full project.

At least we can hope.....

You don't suppose the plans were leaked *BECAUSE* the project had been downsized, and somebody within wanted to embarass management for a poor decision, do you?

I've suggested that a couple times myself. Entirely possible.

Or maybe it was ro try to "stop the slide" before anything more got cut.

So while the FL budget may have been "slashed" according to Mr. Lutz...

To be fair, Al Lutz never used that word. And he never used a word that was as graphic as that. The "slashed" word was used by someone else, and it's not quite as dramatic as that when you read Mr. Lutz's actual words regarding the Fantasyland project...

"They will also be trying to showcase some WDW plans at the Expo; however the leaked blueprints for Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland and the smaller budget that project now is getting has left some Imagineers wishing they could just ignore Florida for the time being." -Al Lutz

That's not nearly as exciting as "slashed budgets!". But it's what Lutz actually wrote.

Saw this over at the Magic Music Forums:

"On Friday, Sept 11 at the D23 Expo, there's a session titled: "We Make the Music: Conversations with the Creators of Disney Theme Park Music" at 3:30 p.m. in the Storytellers Theater. No further details about participants have been listed yet."

I know X Atencio will be at D23, and likely one of the Sherman Brothers. I'm sure this session will include them.

Fair enough. But let's also agree that Mr. Lutz is less than upset about the potential downturn in the finances of the upcoming FL project, whatever it may turn out to be.....

Yea. He hates WDW. We've concreted that part down.

But what people are failing to realize is that the guy is right most of the time.

The DL fans had high hopes for a third gate sooner rather than later. But instead they are getting a parking lot for the forseeable future.

Furthermore, it appears to me that a third gate depends on how DL/DCA do financially as it will have to fund it's own expansion and adds in the future. WDW will soon no longer be Disneyland's money machine. Poor Al.

Isnt this pretty much old news about the Fantasyland budget? as its been mentioned on many other threads, so many that I cant find it anymore

The only big projects I can think of that have there overall budgets released are DCA's and HKDL's.

It seems so weird to me for people to be really into the parks, but not all the other Disney-related things. Please, I don't mean this rudely, so I hope you don't take offense, but I just don't see how it's possible. To me, it all goes completely hand in hand.

Am I the only one who feels that way?

jeff.
I'm one of those people. Mind you, I like other Disney things, such as the feature animation films. But I don't love them.

I don't think it's weird at all. Why do you feel that way? While the different areas of Disney are related, they are different things. Thinking the Haunted Mansion is a great ride really shouldn't have any bearing on whether you think Bambi is a great movie. Or to make another example: there are Lord of the Rings books, and Lord of the Rings movies, and a Lord of the Rings MMORPG, and so on. Liking one doesn't mean you like the others, or even have an interest in the others. Maybe you like to read but don't like playing computer games, for example.

I think this distinction is a source of frequent frustration for those of us who are big Disney World fans but not big Disney-in-General fans. If someone is a Disney-in-General fan, then adding a Classic Character(tm) to a ride that had none before makes the ride more Disney and therefore makes it better. But if someone is specifically a Disney World fan, adding a character adds nothing in itself--it doesn't scratch the itch. For Disney World fans, the characters and movies that came before were sources of inspiration, but not ends unto themselves.

I swear to God, you make up more s**t than anyone else I have ever seen in the internet. Majority of the fans can live without a 3rd park just like many WDW fans don't want a 5th. park in florida. The more parks the less money is invested in the current parks.

What do you mean that "WDW will soon no longer be the money machine" are you admitting that they are about to see a major decline due to competition from Potter and the overbuilding of the DVC? If so you'd be right
