Terrific show tonight...for a very worthy cause. :sohappy:

Huge kudos to Carrie Underwood for her trip to Africa but where the hell were Fantasia and Reuben?

A really good show, as far as charity specials go. They managed to blend music, comedy, and charity fairly well. The good:
1. Ellen DeGeneres - She's funny, and she ponied up $100,000. Too many celebrities don't put their money where there mouth is. Kudos to her.
2. The Simpsons - "And another thing - drop the accent, Mary Poppins. This is American Idol."
3. Not Booting Anyone - Sending someone home would've distracted from the message.
4. Jack Black and Seal. Pretty funny. Although I have to admit to being disappointed that Seal didn't sing "Kiss from a Rose". He's got a great voice.
5. The cause.

The weird:
1. Elvis? Elvis will always be cool, but that was just hokey.
2. Was it just me, or did it seem like Melinda was the only one who recognized Bono?
3. On one of the classiest nights the show has ever had, Paula wore the sleaziest outfit she's ever worn on the show. She didn't seem to be slurring or anything, so she can't blame her outrageously inappropriate fashion choice on booze or pills.

The show must be fairly cheap to produce, gets incredible ratings, and makes a fortune in advertising revenue. It's heartening they decided to do some good in the world.

Is it 5:00 yet?
Was it just me or did Simon look uncomfortable one stage?? He couldn't even turn his head towards the audience when he spoke...

Btw, I kind of liked the Celine/Elvis duet. :p It looked like it was previously taped though..There probably was no way to do that live.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!

"Better than Sanjaya"

I say screw the musical acts, keep the comedy bits
I loved it when he said that!

It was a very touching show tonight, I enjoyed every bit of it! The stories really tugged on my heart and brought me to tears.

The Good:
~Carrie, Kelly, Rascal Flats, and Josh Groban's performances. I liked Josh's the best, it was very touching.
~Ellen- she's too funny!
~The whole idea/cause of tonight.

The Bad:
~The Elvis/Celine duet, so corny and unnecessay...not funny.
~Paula's outfit. This is a family show, what she wore was not right especially on a night like this.

At first, I didn't like the idea of not voting anyone off. But then, as someone mentioned earlier, I believe it would have destracted from the message. I didn't care about the idols tonight, I was wrapped up in the cause. I'm also very excited for the double elimination next week. I think it's going to be Lakisha and Chris.

Did anyone notice how quiet it was when Ryan told Chris he was safe? They were stunned that Jordin was left. Once a bottom 3 wasn't announced and Lakisha was safe, I knew something was up.

That was a little unfair to Jordin or whoever it would have been if they were last. They should have tipped the last person off; she was a little upset.

I loved Carrie Underwood and Josh Groban. I could have done without Ben Stiller and Il Divo. Jack Black and Ellen were great. And Ryan is always annoying to me.

What they did to Jordin was cruel. Where was the charity in that? Of course, as soon as they said Melinda was safe at the beginning I knew the only thing left to shock us would be to eliminate no one. So I wasn't worried. They should have clued the contestants in advance, though. To make Jordin think she was going home was just wrong.

My real beef (and excuse me for my soapbox) is that all this fundraising for charity is just a band-aid. Major corporations, including many of the sponsors, have created the conditions that have led to this poverty. The amount raised last night is less than the annual salary of the CEOs of these corporations. They live large while laying off workers, closing plants, robbing Africa of its vast stores of natural resources, and overcharging for life saving drugs. The money raised can offer only very short term relief. Poverty will unfortunately continue until the causes of poverty are addressed and held accountable.

They probably were not invited to be on the show because they haven't been successful enough yet to be considered big league stars.

Okay, I finally managed to watch the recording of last night's show because I was at the ball game last night. Great show, and its nice to see it going to a good cause. The Simpsons, Jack Black ( better than Sanjaya. LMAO!!! ), and others were hilarious. Carrie Underwood was HAWT as always. And it was nice to see her go to Africa because it shows that she's no diva and has guts.

BTW, maybe I missed it because the recording started ten minuites into the show, but where was Borat? I thought I heard that Borat was going to make an appearance.
