Latin music week next week maybe with Sanjaya we are in for a rousing performance of "Shake Your Bon Bon." You know you want to.
Holy moly for real? I was thinking of Latin music being a theme...I'm psychic like Raven :lookaroun

Is Gloria Estefan going to be the guest? I can think of a few of her 80s hits that can be done besides "Conga."

And there are the options of Marc Anthony, Enrique (meh), and maybe Ricky Martin. Oh yeah and Shakira :hurl:

The weird thing is what will be defined as Latin music...just by the person who is singing?

Um.....no.

But I am curious as to what they define as Latin music. The only way to pull this off is to use Gloria Estefan's music because she's the only one whose music was a blend of American and Latino music. But knowing American Idol in their infinite wisdom, they'll just have the contestants pick Latino singers and all will be peachy keen

Let's have some Christina Aguilera then  :hammer:

I thought most of the kids had a good night. The music makes all the difference in the world...when will it finally sink in.

Phil was the worst tonight. If Sinatra was alive, he'd be suing Paula for defamation for her comment.

Lakisha has two different voices. She sounds great when she's hitting those loud, big notes but she has a 'rough' voice on the low notes. Melinda hits all the notes perfectly.

Chris and Blake sounded great. Gina did ok, too, although I like her more as a rocker.

My original favorite, Jordin, has a beautiful crisp voice and did well tonight.

Haley makes a great pin-up for the GIs and had a cute performance tonight.

Sanjaya........:hurl: He's little more than a caricature of the show at this point.

Tonight:

Blake had such opportunity to soar and he failed. Mack the Knife is about a gangster who kills people! It is a song that needs sharp, staccato delivery and he gave us smooth, silk pulp. He actually disappointed me.

Melinda and Lakisha both started out pitchy and out of sync with the band, they both improved over the song, but again, I was disappointed.

Chris gave the performance of the night. The hat shaded his eyes too much, but that has nothing to do with his delivery.

Sanjaya presented reasonably well, not great vocals, but he imbued his performance with feeling that suited the song.

I thought Haley did extremely well compared to the judges' comments. She played to the camera like she owned it and sang clear and on key throughout.

Gina did a stand-up job. She didn't put as much feeling into it as it needed, but all-round an acceptable, controlled delivery.

Jordin delivered an acceptable song, but nothing special...

Phil needs to find a vocal range he can handle. He can't handle the lower registers, but he keeps trying to go there. If he had sung that half to an octave higher it would have been beautiful. He's gone tomorrow.

Am I the only one to find it funny Tony stated Phil had the best voice? :brick: :hammer:

Sorry, just the thought of JLo coaching them brought tears to my eyes.

I will admit, she has had good songs, and some nice spanish ballads, but please  This is worse than Gwen Stefani, who at least can sing
What can Bon Jovi offer except hair tips :lookaroun

BTW, after Sanjaya, that had to be the best Simon comment EVER.
  Agreed. We loved that.

Melinda was the best of the bunch (she's as good as any pro), with Blake and Jordin close behind. I don't care if "Mack the Knife" is about a killer - it's a hipster song, and it suited Blake's style. Jordin is a great, great singer.

I voted for Gina a gazillion times. Her performance wasn't one of the best, but I normally like her choices. She may be in the bottom three.

It's a tight race between LaKisha and Chris for the most overpraised on the show. Her lower register is suspect, and he's just plain awful.

Bye, bye Phil.

I'll disagree on the first and whole-heartedly agree on the second.

Blake was uninspired and even Tony Bennett said he needs to understand what the song is about... Tony and I may be old enough to have been alive when it was recorded, but that doesn't mean we don't know a thing or two! :ROFLOL:

Phil is no Sinatra, and couldn't even elicit a tip if he gave ol' blue eyes a shoe-shine!

I never watched this program before, but finally tonight I saw Sanjaya...
The first thing that popped up into my mind was "Michael Jackson"
He gave me the creeps...

The first guy, in tonights show, I don't know his name, was the guy in the blue suit, sounded pretty well (but what do I know)

The greenish girl didn't have the voice but indeed the legs for it...
She dressed to impress... but that's the only thing she did...
Making a better chance on Playboy Magazine...

The Bold one was doubtful... (with these ears)

The so-called humoristic guy, with that stupid hat, should be sended to the funny farm... (IMO) and not to an AI program...

And the 17 year old girl sounded very good... but again, what do I know...

Well... this was my first expirience with American Idols, and hopefully my last...

My daughter called me an old man this night :D...

I think she's right... :lookaroun :)
