So hubby is taking me and my 2 little ones back to WDW this fall, this will be our second trip this year...:sohappy:
We decided to book the Poly this time around and I can't wait! Now my only question is after I stay a week at the Poly will I ever be able to go back to a Moderate or Value resort?? I'm afraid that this will spoil me (ahem..of couse I deserve it) especially with having the monorail and being able to walk to TTC...

It might be a struggle. I know before we became DVC members and staying at a Moderate resort suite, that is all we knew, but now being with DVC and staying in a villa, i thought how did we manage to stay in such small accomidations for so long.

My DH and I are wondering the same thing! We usually stay moderate but booked Contemporary this time around for Aug. I wonder if we can ever go back to moderate. Then again, in my opinion, Disney has a way of spoiling you no matter where you are. We just took our first non-Disney trip of our marriage last week and the entire time all we could talk about was how much better Disney does everything and spoils us and how anxious we are for our trip in Aug!

You can go back...well at least I did. While the deluxe resorts are great they also carry a hefty price tag to go along with their greatness. In the future you might wish you were on the monorail going to MK instead of a bus but it will overshadowed when you get a three digit bill vs. a 4 digit one.

Have fun! That sounds like a great trip.
I stayed in Moderates for a couple of years. I stayed at the Beach Club once and I haven't been able to stay anywhere else since. It feels like home to me and is part of the WDW experience now. The price tag does make me think that someday I'll make a quick trip and stay elsewhere, but I can't imagine it yet.

I say absolutely. My family and I usually go between Moderate and Value resorts just because of the little amount of time we usually stay at the resorts. I guess it all depends on how much time you and your family like to spend at the resorts. If you are the type of person that likes to take the opportunity to enjoy ALL of the amentities that your resort offers at a Deluxe resort then it might be harder. Personally my family and I seem to find great things about all of the hotels from Value to Moderate to Deluxe. One year we could decide to stay at a Deluxe resort and the next year want to stay at a Value and have an equally great time. I think you need to talk to your family and figure out if you will be spending a lot of time at your resort and if so then it might be easier to just stay in the Deluxe resort range and enjoy all that those resorts have to offer.
Hope this helps!

One other thing to consider is that you can enjoy nearly all the amenities, save for the pool, by visiting the deluxe resorts. We have not stayed in a deluxe in quite a few years but we dine at at least one on almost every trip.

We have had issues going back to a Moderate. We loved the moderate. However we are getting older and require more time at the resorts Our bodys don't hold up like they use to.

We are talking about taking our god child for a 8th grade gift. We are debating about where to stay. We don't want to spoil her during her first trip with a deluxe stay but I'm not sure we can stay elsewhere

It is hard to say how you will feel because everyone feels differently, but I can tell you that after staying at the Poly there is no way I would want to stay at a value or moderate. If we did not have kids, maybe I could stay somewhere else...but with kids, no way.

For one thing, the rooms at the Poly are huge, and they have a day bed. In fact, not only has the Poly spoiled us in this regard for WDW trips, it has spoiled us anytime we stay in a hotel anywhere, since the vast majority of regular hotel rooms, even in nicer hotels, are no where near as large as the Poly.

Gosh, there are just so many reasons...some big, and some little.....the monorail and boat to the MK, being able to walk to the TTC to get on the Epcot monorail, being able to watch Wishes and/or the Electric Water Pageant from the beach with the kids in their jammies then going right back to the room to put them to bed, 2 really nice restaurants, late night runs down to Captain Cooks for Dole Whips aftter the kids are asleep, the coffee bar in the lobby (that has REAL coffee, not Nescafe!), the peacful atmosphere of the resort...I could go on and on.

Of course if we could not afford the Poly, we would still go to WDW. But I must admit we are very spoiled now, and not staying there would take some getting used to!

oh yeah, a person can definitely go back. Everybody has their favorite moderates, and mine is Coronado Springs. The bar, the pools, the theming and decor - not to mention the newly renovated rooms and usually awesome bus transportation! I can absolutely go back there after a deluxe stay.

We have no problem going back and forth. It really depends on our wallets each for each trip. We stayed at Poly on our last trip and will be at Pop for our next.

For us the hardest part about going back is the beds. DH and I are both move around alot in our sleep so when we don't stay at Deluxe we don't sleep in the same bed. Poly was great because we got a bed and each kid got their own bed too.

Over the last 10 years we have been to WDW 12 times. The first 3 times were @ the Beach/Yacht Club (the second time there we were upgraded to the concierge floor). The next 8 times we have stayed @ the Moderates POFQ(3), Coronado Springs, POR(2), Caribbean, Swan. In July 2009 we are staying @ Animal Kingdom Lodge.

My wife kept saying that she would never go back to a moderate after being upgraded to the Concierge floor @ the Beach club. Over time you realize that Disney accomodations are outstanding @ every level and you can't miss.

You can go back if it means the difference between not going at all. I was definately NOT going to go this year, then along comes the free dining plan and my sister priced it out for a vacation for herself, my neice and I at a value resort and we realized we could save and go.

We wouldn't be able to go if we stayed at a more expensive resort. My previous stay was at POFQ and the one before that was Poly so you CAN go back. We're not too picky about the room for the most part since it's mainly for sleeping, especially when we're only there for 7 nights not 10-18 which we often do.

I know what you mean - I absolutely LOVE the deluxe resorts. But I decided that this next time I am going solo, I don't really need all the room so I went with POR. But for me & my daughter's Halloween trip in 2010, it will be back to the deluxes - specifically Boardwalk.

We had no problem going from a Deluxe to a Moderate. Certainly, the amenities are better at the Deluxes, but the Moderates have Food Courts. It's amazing how convenient Food Courts are when you have kids. As for the space question, think about this: In most cases, you can get two Moderate rooms for the price of one Deluxe room.

I have been spoiled as well

Being DVC I like the deluxe

I will go "down" to a moderate if I am paying cash, and I can't get a good deal on a deluxe

I have gone back to the values because i was going with friends. Its not bad, but you also know what you are missing.

I guess it really depends on what you want!

In the last 18 months we've stayed at (in this order) Poly, All Star Music, & Wilderness Cabins. I think my favorite trip was when we stayed at All Star Music.

We are trying to stay at as many resorts as we can. Next trip we are staying at Pop, due to the budget constraints of our traveling companions. We are sooo excited! The trip after that will probably be the Grand Floridian or Contemporary.

With us, it's Disney - who cares where you sleep? :)

Count us in the catagory that can not go back to a moderate. We have been staying at the deluxes for years and have just been spoiled. We love the extra room and ammenities that go along with them. Our group is now in there upper 20s lower 30s so we find that we spend more time at the resorts then we use to. My fear is this year we have a Villa at the Contemporary Bay Lake Tower for all of us. Will we be able to drop back down

I'm another one who has been spoiled staying at the Poly and I would find it very hard to go to a moderate, mainly due to the size of the rooms and location on the monorail. Having said that, a moderate or value resort at Disney is better than no Disney.
