A Wakanda Attraction? Whoopi says yes

Wakanda would not represent equatorial Africa. It's a fictional country with sci-fi technology.

I already said it above, but I think it would lead to absolutely terrible PR for Disney. Instead of adding a real country in Africa you're putting in something completely fake that you own and leaving actual sub-Saharan Africa without representation?

Arendelle / Norway already proves the pushback from a fan subset of World Showcase purists doesn't actually matter.

Frozen ride / Norway does not equal Wakanda ride / Wakanda

Frozen ride / Norway = Wakanda ride / African country pavilion

Creating a pavilion entirely from a fictional country would betray the idea of World Showcase. Then you would see push back

I don't disagree that it's a bad idea that breaks WS. I don't disagree that there would be push back.

But at the end of the day, truth is, it's A Whole New World now. Disney has already signaled their intent for World Showcase going forward, and the lines between fiction and fantasy mean less and less each day both to the company and to their typical customers.

It's all sort of a moot point anyway. Where exactly is the half a billion minimum to pull something like this off going to come from in the next 10 years? Disney has no interest in spending that kind of money on any time-line that matters to this discussion, and certainly not in World Showcase.

That's another great point. Having said that, the continent is well represented in Disney's Animal Kingdom so should they add an African country to World Showcase it would be interesting what approach they would take.

Easily themed to fit. Just make the front look like Mt. Fuji...
Easy enough...

"Disney and Universal also reportedly have come to a legal understanding that allows Disney to use characters not currently referenced inside Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure to be used in Walt Disney World attractions. That's why Disney is building a Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster in the old Universe of Energy pavilion at Epcot. But Disney still can't use the brand name "Marvel" in promoting its theme park attractions at Walt Disney World... or at Disneyland, for that matter. "
Well, Black Panther is on the new UOR shirt..Meaning his use out in WDW is a no go.

I’m not universals lawyer...but I’m pretty sure obvious references to forbidden IP would be a rather “quick” court proceeding in their favor.
I'm not super sure about the contract specifics either, but I always assumed it's a contract concerning the characters themselves. At least from this post on Inside Universal, they say that the contract doesn't clarify whether locations can be used so it's a bit of a question mark I guess: https://www.insideuniversal.net/201...ct-what-rights-does-universal-and-disney-own/
