A time when CMs cry

Does anyone have any Kleenex? These are great stories!

And Dizpins, you mentioned that you are a guy, 20 years old, so you don't cry. It's OK. I'm a guy, let's just say more than twice your age, and a old softie at heart. I can mist up with the best of them--like everytime we leave the MK for the trip home.

Oh, don't get me started........

Perfect story! Thanks for sharing...

I remember one night during the Nights of Joy - and this (just to put a picture in your head) little 'ol grandma was sitting in her wheelchair. I was working in Disney Clothiers at the time - and well, for the special parties such as Nights of Joy - we didn't have all that much business...but I digress.

So, we (other CM's & I) kinda were wondering the street talking to various guests and I happened upon "Grandma" just kinda sitting there not really have the best of times. We struck up a small conversation about the night and her family. Said she'd come to the Magic Kingdom quite often and had always had a good time. I then asked why she didn't particularly look like she was having a good time now. She went on to say that she really didn't want to come this particular night and so on and so forth. In between all this - she mentioned a few things that she'd bought her kids/grandkids over the years, and that she'd actually never gotten herself a pair of Mickey Ears for herself. Of course I heard that and immediately made a mental note that this was going to be the night she got her ears! I introduced myself and she did as well (the one way to get her name!!!!).

I told her not to go any where as I would be right back that I had to go do something for work, but that I wanted to continue our conversation. I ran to the Mad Hatter - got her name put on the ears and casually walked back to where she was sitting. I had my hands behind my back - and as I walked up, I just casually pulled the ears from behind me, showed her what they were and what was on them. I slowly put them on her head and you would have thought I just gave her the world on a plate. The look on her face is ingrained in my memory - that of surprise and true happiness. As her daughter came out the Emporium with her children - she looked shocked as to where she might have gotten the ears w/her name on it. I was walking away and over heard her say - that this turned out to be one of the best nights she'd ever had in the Magic Kingdom...of course I turned around and winked at her - and saw that her eyes had welled up - which made me just about start to ball. Buuuuut, I held it in, to just a few tears - and will always remember that night.

It was moments like that for me - that made being a cast member truely special.

I'm sitting here crying like an idiot just reading your story---that was so kind of you to do something like that. The world needs more feel-good moments like that.

He still believed that it was the Buzz Power hug that he had gotten from Buzz himself that did the trick. And who knows? Maybe it was.

that is SO sweet! gave me goosebumps!

I think I could just fill this thread with stories, but this is one of my favorites-

An elderly woman in a wheelchair and her 50-something year old daughter came to character connection, and were in line to see Pluto. When they got up to him, Pluto knelt in front of the woman's wheelchair, and realized that she was mostly blind if not completely. She put her hand out in front of her, and it fell on Pluto's nose, and she sat there and just petted his nose like you would any other dog. The look on her face was just pure joy and contentment, and Pluto got the idea that he was probably an old favorite of hers, as she hadn't seemed to care much about Mickey (or the others after she left Pluto). This woman just sat there and petted pluto for a good 5 minutes, and pluto bawled big ole puppy dog tears (but made sure nobody else could see :animwink:). Finally the daughter told the mom they had to go, and even as she wheeled her off, the mom was just in her own world with that same grin spread across her face

I actually have another story for you...My husband wanted to share it

He was working at cosmic rays and saw this little girl had to be about 3 wondering around crying hysterically. He assumed she was lost

He didn't have any customers at his register so he asked someone else to cover the station. He knelt down and asked her if she was lost. She stopped crying and he said don't cry, i will help you find your Mom. He stood up and held out his hand, she grabbed his finger and held on to him. He walked up towards the front and looked around. And a woman came up to him and said "oh God, thank you so much." the little girl ran up to her mom and she picked her daughter up. The mom said that she was looking at the decorations and didn't pay attention. Her daughter stayed there and didn't walk with her mom. She was so happy to find her but Michael was happy that he made a difference for someone sad and lost.

I know exactly how the pluto feels. =)

When I was a CP (when I was in the college program), the new Illuminations was coming out... with the barges and the floating earth that opens up, and the torches... all of that was new.
Some of my CP friends got to go to the cast member preview of the show. The next day one of them was telling me about it and could hardly tell me about how the earth floats out into the center of the lagoon and opens up because he was crying... he was just struck by the beauty of it.
A few nights later when I saw it for myself I lost it too.
Get almost any CM talking about Walt and they'll most likely get misty too...

Awwww, I love it!

My last little one that still makes me happy. Im sure many of you remember hearing about Bonnie, Andrew and Mj. They were my favorite guests. I was really touched when Mj asked for me to sign her autograph book and on the last day of my CP they gave me a card. (if you are reading this thanks guys!)

Sure do. See them all the time when I am in FL.

The only time I've gotten misty at the world was at PI believe it or not. I give a lot of credit to the CM that was DJing the music at the RNRBC, because he hit the nail on the head. It was the last Thursday for most of the summer CPs, and PI was packed with everyone out for one last party. Right as their about to close, he plays the last verse from the Mickey Mouse Club March "Now it's time to say goodbye...." and I think half the place just lost it. I'm sure there were a few guests there that wondered what was going on, but to all the CPs, it was a perfect way to say goodbye.

Ok so I have to admit I have been crying for the past 10 minutes reading these wonderful stories. I myself have never been a CM, but hope to one day. I just want to say thank you to all the wonderful CM's who make their guests feel so special and create such magical memories for families!!! I think we can all agree that we are sure that you have made Walt proud!!!

On that note, I came across this video on youtube of a little girl and Ariel. Moments like these make me cry, just to see how starstruck children are when they meet their favorite characters. Just wanted to share it all with you....

That will probably be me in Aug.

Yes
Have one other story that really hit close to home while a CM back in the '90s. This memory still warms my heart when I think about it.

I was working the far cart on Main Street (closest to the Castle at the time). We were always instructed that when you saw a family with one of the buttons from Give Kids the World (GKtW) you were do to what ever it took to make them happy. As it happened - I had just sold my last green Goofy hat about 5:30 that afternoon (and the park closed at 6). Not long before 6, a family comes up to the cart looking for one of the Goofy hats - and I notice the GKtW button on a young boy (all of 7 or 8, if that). His mom & dad had promised him one of the hats all day long on the way out of the park, and this was the only place that carried them at the time (they were very new). You could see the dissapointment in the boys face when he couldn't find one on the cart. Noticing the pin...I pulled his mom aside and told her that I was off the next day and that if they were still going to be on property I would meet them somewhere with one of the hats. Said they were actually going to be at Epcot the next day - DONE I said - meet me at the front of the Fountains at 10AM. She looked at me with shock - and honestly - I don't think she believed me.

I got a hat from inventory - wrote it off (manager approved thank you!) and was only thinking about how the next morning would turn out.
I got to Epcot early - as I knew if they didn't see me 1st they would go on thinking I had yanked their chain. Sure enough - 10AM came up and there they walked...His mom and dad, both had the biggest grin on their faces. I pulled the hat out of the bag and you would of thought I handed them all a million dollars. He put the hat on so fast, I thought his ears were going to fall off! Hugs went around, and huge thank you's - and just like that - they were off to experience Epcot.

Again - by happen stance - my roommate and I went to volntr at GKtW that night. And who strolls by - but the "Goofy Family". I made a bee line to them, and his mom was all tears. She said he hadn't taken the hat off all day long (not even during HISTA). She said that she couldn't believe I went out of my way to do that for them - I said it was my pleasure and I wanted to. Again, hugs and tears all around.
I still have the memory of him running with all the other kids and his big green Goofy hat on like it was just "supposed to be there!" Knowing that what ever illness he had, what ever battle he'd been fighting and probably about to lose, that 'illness' was the farthest thing from his mind that afternoon. He wasn't thinking about his next treatment - he was truely a child - playing as a child should play.
