A Terror-rific Spirited 13th (ToT fans have lots to fear)...

Interesting to hear that Doctor Strange is one of the Marvel IPs that can be used. After seeing the previews for the money, this particular IP piqued my interest, and for one main reason - location. When I watch some of the previews for that movie, Doctor Strange travels to a part of the world that has architecture that looks like it was pulled right out of Anandapur and Zerka Zong in the Asia sections of DAK. This makes me curious as to whether or not this Marvel IP could ever end up in that park. It seems far-fetched to me; but let's face it, they got Rohde to add an alien landscape expansion to the front of the park populated by the indigenous blue-skinned Na'vi. If Doctor Strange is a hit for the MCU - and Cumberbatch looks like he will fill Doctor Strange's shoes just fine - I wonder what would happen if Chappie and Co. tried to shoehorn this Marvel IP into DAK?

There was a time when I would have thought that to be impossible. But knowing the Bobs' preference for using IP, just watch the previews for Doctor Strange and tell me how an Asia expansion couldn't occur in that unused expansion pad. The resemblance to the structures in Asia to what you see in this upcoming movie are almost uncanny. And Rohde is the perfect Imagineer for it considering he currently has both DAK and the Marvel portfolio under his floppy earring.
Great post. I've wondered if they would try to put the SW IP into DAK with an Ewok village. Cumberbatch is a great actor - Dr. Strange is in good hands.

I have to be honest... this wasn't bothering me as much on the west coast until I ran into this tonight. Just sucks. This happening in FL would be even more brutal for me with the more personal attachment I have to it.

Edit: originally came out wrong. That's what I get for posting so late!

Er, this wouldn't be the same Disney park with the giant steel roller-coaster and huge light up ferris wheel with a 50-foot tall mickey mouse face on the side of it, is it?

Those are at least more thematically consistent than GOTG. Not saying they are perfect, but they make some sense in California themed park. Even if you don't think they are, why would you want to take a step in the same bad direction by ruining TOT, something that fits perfectly in the park?

Let's get right to the heart of things here: the GotG attraction that was planned for ToT and then pushed aside by Georgie K over capacity issues at a theme park that, frankly, should have been shuttered while undergoing a rebuild that is truly unprecedented in scale and scope (but will still leave the park with a smaller footprint than it had a decade ago) and turned into another chance to rip more flesh from the corpse of EPCOT has changed direction yet again.

And chances are you aren't going to like this anymore than I like telling you. BUT ... that direction has led right back to ...

WDI has been actively going over show elements from the DCA GotG: Mission Make Chappie Look Good To The Weatherman that can be used in ... you have to know where this is going, right? ... WDW's ToT.

That's right. What I first reported that stirred up a hornet's nest/bitchfest everywhere from TDA to Disney Twitter, from TDO to Michael Colglazier's head is, indeed, the current choice for bringing Marvel's lovable rapscallions (do you know how much I have wanted to use this word in a post?!?) to WDW is the original one.

It is happening. Not today, not tomorrow and not in 2017 either. But soon, say sometime in 2018 after the truly pathetic Toy Story Land adds a few nicely themed carnie rides to Disney's Third Gate MAGICal Theme Park (my new name for the park until the unveiling), the Tower will close (probably in similar fashion to DCA) and Marvel will, indeed, be in WDW (whether DIS will be able to use its own Marvel name is something that lawyers will hammer out as they currently can't, but may toss something UNI's way to get the allowance).

As for the EPCOT plans, something will go into the Energy pavilion that should debut right in time for WDW's 50th if they can stay on time and on budget and who are we kidding? It will open at some point! A few ideas are being tossed around (yes, even the ridiculous Tron concept has some basis in fact), none that I am aware of that employ the concept of energy and/or AA dinos.

The Guardians were definitely headed there. They really were. But when the price tag of the project went over, by a considerable margin, the cost of Radiator Springs Racers (the most expensive theme park attraction ever built) the whole thing went back to the drawing board and during that period, WDI just kept working on a WDW Tower redo. BTW, as near as I can tell, much of the meat of this attraction was going to be similar to the mega-E-Ticket Captain America coaster hybrid planned for DCA.

As for the bad PR, I've been told "If we don't change directions again, they are confident they can mute most of the negative attention by showcasing all of the new stuff, particularly Pandora to show the New Disney can knock socks off. They also think all the positive talk that is bound to come out after DCA's version opens might help as well. Builds up anticipation. Much like having Star Wars debut years before Florida and then opening the exact same things in, as you would say, the swamps."

Is this subject to change? I have no idea. You can never trust Disney. They always lie. Please recall their responses when people called, emailed and wrote Disney about any plans for a Guardians Tower to start with.

But what does this mean for Disney's Third Gate MAGICal Theme Park and its future? And that Mickey Mouse project? And DCA? And even SDL?

Stay tuned. More to follow.

Welp.... Ive never seen a creative company stagnante so much.

I haven't been making up anything. It's called analyzing the available facts and not jumping to conclusions based on my irrational hatred.

I don't believe that there is a "franchise mandate" and that they would take the tower down and spend the money period just on a whim. Particularly when as we have been discussing there are other options for the GoG franchise at WDW.

On a side note, I really tire of bickering with you so forgive me if I don't further reply. I try to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you tend to be the most argumentative for the sake of it person on this board, you cannot let anyone state an opinion you do not agree with without burying the argument into the ground and rarely are anything but reactionary in your statements. You rely mainly on passion and not hard facts or evidence, and when you do have anything resembling a valid point it's usually just moving a goal post or unrelated to the actual topic someone is speaking about. Your mind is not open to anything other than your own ill will and contempt for the boogie men you have invented who run things, so it's really not worth wasting my time going on and on with you and making everyone else suffer through it.
shhh,stop making sense!

From a rider's perspective, definitely. Everything looks and moves great and the new boats no longer get your pants and underwear wet.

Still, I'd read a lot of reports from cast members that the show building itself is rotting- maybe that's still an ongoing issue.
rotting as in falling apart? the smell? or fungus stuff?

Disney's current live-action remake roster (i.e., in the works):
-Snow White
-Dumbo
-Beauty and the Beast
-Aladdin
-Lion King
-Mulan

Make it stop!
I'm still scratching my head at the Lion King one.

Also cant remove that supposed leak of the Mulan script being worse than the original script of Michael Bay's TMNT.
I mean.. White dude gets in love with mulan and saves her and china? wow.. seriously..
Thats taking white washing to demi-god levels.

Africa is a better themed land than Diagon Alley. The argument for me is really that the theming is comparable and there's more to do in Africa.
I honestly believe they are on equal levels..
Diagon Alley doesnt have a full stage show like Harambe, but Harambe doesn't have a full coaster attraction.
both have food areas, live music, tons of shops and sighsees.

You forgot Peter Pan. That I'm actually kind of excited for if they live up to the source material.

How many Peter Pan movies has been there yet?
I lost count on the whitewashed "Pan" one (where they replaced the native girl with the whitest girl they could find)

But its just so much easier to say than "photo-realistic-3D-rendered" remake. ;)

realistic as in 3d(animated 3d like BOLT) or as in stuff like Babe (aka real animals with 3d body changes and morphs to simulate talk..etc..), OR as in the jungle book?

Oy...how could I have forgotten other proposed remakes of previous Disney animated features!

-Sword in the Stone
-Chip and Dale
-Winnie the Pooh
-Pinocchio
-The Little Mermaid
-Night on Bald Mountain
-Tinkerbell (not exactly a remake, but still)
-Prince Charming (again, not a true remake, but livening up of an animated character)

Chip and Dale?
How would that work?
As in Alvin and the Chipmunks real cgi movies?

Jungle Book style. Done by the same director. which is the only reason I have hope for that one because I'm a big Favreu fan.

And Chip and Dale is supposed to be a rescue rangers movie I believe. Probably Alvin style animation/live action mix, but hopefully done well.

The difference between GOTG TOT and any other additions to DCA that were not thematically consistent is that this "new" ride can be seen from almost anywhere in the park. It will stick out like a horribly sore thumb. The fact this this ugly warehouse will be seen behind Carthy Circle should make any Disney fan outraged.

This is my main issue with it at DCA. Other than being completely unnecessary, it's going to destroy sight lines from all over the park.

Those can really only be seen from the area they are in, a classic seaside amusement park, where they fit thematically. Quite a great deal of attention was also put into making the "giant steel rollercoaster" appear to be an old fashioned wooden coaster. The Tower can be seen from all over the park.

Tower of Terror unfortunately has already been destroying sight lines for years at DCA. It was a somewhat ill-conceived, cheap and ugly Paul Pressler addition to a starving park. That happens to contain a beloved E-ticket.

One of the seemingly rare instances where WDW did it so right and DLR got something a little lost in translation.

The changes may draw more attention to its flaws, this is true. But the sight-lines are already broken.

How so? I thought it fits in with Buena Vista Street, Grizzly Peak, and HollywoodLand at the very least. That's half the park there. I've also heard that BugsLand was also designed to be part of the garden in front of the Tower (not 100% sure on this). Maybe it doesn't fit with Paradise Pier, but that land is a dumpster fire of bad sightlines anyways.

Violence then?

/sigh

No I am talking about a mature, overall adult tone. The original show is seen as rather vanilla these days, when in fact at the time many of the tales were rather perverse and controversial. I expect similar from the reboot.

Come on, it's not like you to be so obtuse.

While we are again on the subject, was just reading today in a new television history book which named the Twilight Zone theme to be the #1 most known TV theme song of all time.

That's the one.

And it's right next door to a park some guy named Walt built, where after a few years when he was finally making lots of money he built a 160 foot tall version of a snow covered Swiss mountain that can be seen from Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Tomorrowland, even New Orleans Square. Walt was probably drunk when he approved that mistake.
