A Terror-rific Spirited 13th (ToT fans have lots to fear)...

Fixed that for you. The only future they care about is their own, certainly not the future of the company. They are sowing the seeds of brand implosion by eroding the foundation it was built on. I'd say it's mind-boggling but $$$ and hubris. It's infuriating and sad. While I think that SW and Marvel should have a place at DHS, I can't think of any good reason for them to destroy this iconic attraction.
I'm still wondering, why the hell they just dont put an stunt show with physical assets themed to GOTG instead of gutting the tower.
Would make more sense on THAT side of the park than in Sunset's boulevard.

Everyone should make an effort to buy ToT merchandise.
Why? they would probably stomp in peoples hearts like when they demolished many attraction and then laughed at us by releasing a collection of memoralia to "remember" the attraction.

I just truly don't understand the rationale. Why ToT was chosen for this I still can't wrap my head around. Not only from a fan's perspective, but even from the cheap bean counting executives' perspective...there are so many more attractions that could get a GotG overlay for far cheaper than retheming that massive tower (off the top of my head Star Tours, RnRC, and Stitch), and they may even be welcomed by fans. I hate to sound like one of Disney is evil truthers, but it's like they want to take away such an amazing attraction for some reason o_O

What if its Chapek's way to say F.U. to Universal.. "HERES OUR MARVEL TOWER.. HAHAHA TAKE THAT UNIVERSAL!"
Nothing like a giant tower full of "ip" ads.

Please tell more. If Disney has announced plans to spend "several billion dollars in investment" then I'm all (mouse) ears. :)

They did announce an increase of $800M in domestic theme park spending but I'm unaware of any other publically disclosed information regarding actual spending levels for the next several years.

Thanks!
But what does 800M gives the public now in a Disney park? 2 gazebos that take 2 years to build, 2 carnival rides, perhaps 5 M&G's and perhaps 1 2-minute D ticket attraction ?

I can't wait for Pirates to close in 2020, after a mildly successful "Pixar's BOATS" movie is released.............

I'm kidding. Don't kill me.
When you laugh at the jokes.. but then with the current management you start to fear it COULD actually HAPPEN.

Here's the thing...we need to take action if we want to save Tower of Terror, and we need to make it work so they can justify it.

First, griping on social media does no good. We need to sign official letters and petitions.

Here's the change.org petition from 2015 that 20,000 people "signed" to protest the closing of the 13 year old Aladdin stage show in Disney California Adventure and its replacement with a big-budget Frozen show. Aladdin will have been in DCA longer than Tower of Terror was. https://www.change.org/p/disneyland-resort-anehiem-ca-keep-aladdin-a-musical-spectacular

Frozen - Live At The Hyperion debuted at DCA in May, 2016 and continues to perform four times per day.

As @WDW1974 has eloquently stated, unless you stop visiting the parks in huge numbers Disney doesn't care.

This line of thinking is the problem. When any attraction is viewed as being sacrosanct, all objectivity and rationality goes out the window. As I've said before, it makes perfect sense to use GoTG in ToT at DHS. Twilight Zone belongs in a rest home.
No, no, no. Take the religious aspect out of the equation. The ride should be "untouchable" because it's both a classic and an icon of the park. It has nothing to do with the popularity of the IP. Same goes for Splash Mountain which is also based on a less popular IP. Both are iconic, classic rides which should not be touched. I also disagree that this plan makes "perfect sense". Guardians of the Galaxy is a valuable IP and one of the few Marvel ones that can actually be used in Florida. Why not build an epic E-ticket based on the movies? If they are gutting Great Movie Ride why not put it there or actually build a new show building for it at DHS. GoTG deserves better than this. The plan makes no sense.

Well the alternative to this is for TDO to just add the moniker of "Food and Wine" and "Festival" to it and it will be a gold mine. Example: "Food and Wine GOTG Great Escape Festival", "Tower of Food and Wine Terror Festival", "Soarin Over Food and Wine Festival". Add some $15 bottom shelf cocktails and mundane small plate dishes watch the unwashed masses flood in.
or fireworks dessert parties?

That is a really great comparison to what's happening at Disney today, The sales and marketing folks are running it with zero appreciation of the PRODUCT which got them there, Jobs is correct Xerox PARC had GUI systems 15 years before the rest of the industry but their management was too blind to see the potential.
kinda reminds you of the guy who said no to the Beatles too

Likely a key factor. I imagine Iger thought of buying the IP. That would be the only way they would have continued with it. TZ does not play to Disney's strengths and so they will likely move on. Fortunately they have great options.

There is a real possibility that OLC could bargain to keep the IP in their park. So, it might still be possible the traditional ToT will live on there. Loving this journey.
OLC doesn't use TZ but good try. Just continues to show your lack of knowledge on the subject.

I would like to reinstate a point brought up before in this thread, and that I have stated before. Plans are constantly in flux and any of this could change in an instant. Last I heard, it did seem that the pendulum had swung back towards DH_ but not inherently towards tower. Expect a good amount more of plan changes before it is set in stone. Demolition begins in 1 year and about 2 months. What will be demolished/ rethemed/ built up? Stay tuned.

As Spirit did in the first, i will take this as another effort to bring outrage to once again stall the ToT Guardian rumor in its track...it pains me to think this has worked its way back up

On another topic, RnRc, walking a tight line, but Spirit or Feather have you heard about a possible Tokyo style redo?...Its something that has come my way recently

Wrong. Disney holds no exclusivity on this. They simply pay for a license to use the IP on the tower. If someone else wanted to use it elsewhere they can right now. They just have to pay

First, link?

Second, it's not just "pay" - the owner has to want to further license, etc. You are over simplifying which makes me renew my last question.

Third, the value of the IP is higher if it is exclusive - if Disney no longer licenses it, it gives CBS the possibility to do an exclusive license with someone else which increases its value tremendously.

I usually just don't even bother with you since your trolling is just so obvious that it borders on absolutely pathetic, but I gotta bite here.

Please, enlighten me. In what way does GotG even remotely fit into Sunset Boulevard?

He said it fit in at the Studios in general. Which is does. A case could be made for In Epcot at future world as well, but the Studios are the most appropriate place for GoG. I mean, come on, even if it got a stand alone brand new attraction that wasn't replacing anything, folks here would go bonkers (more bonkers?) if it was going into AK or MK.

I wish Rohde weren't working in this.

Hear me out--he's a very talented Imagineer. Which means this is likely to be good for what it is. Disney is wonderful at divining what it wants to hear from guests. So a small group is livid about ToT closing out west. But most people, due to (I assume) strong visuals and a wonderful ride system, are likely to enjoy Mission Breakout. If the powers-that-be have decided our Tower gets this, too, there's nothing we can do about it.

As others have said, I don't actually think The Twilight Zone is required for Tower. But it will be a pity to lose the spooky atmosphere and incredible level of detail in this ride.

While I am certainly not in the Cult of Rohde, let me get this straight: even though there is nothing we can do about it anyway, you want it to suck so people don't like what we end up with?

As in Tokyo ToT? Yeah, I have actually heard that one quite a few times. It seems that the goal is less to shoehorn GotG, but more so to ditch the TZ
