Good grief it's not. Its the butchered, cliff notes distant cousin version.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the cuts intentional? I thought Marc Davis wanted to cut down on what he thought was unnecessary, mainly the excess cavern scenes that are really only there in Disneyland for logistical reasons. Plus our show scenes are much larger and more detailed.

I love the DL and WDW versions for different reasons, but I've never felt like WDW's was necessarily inferior. Plus that queue!

Well, I can't really add much to the disgust already expressed here. All I can say is this: when I first read WDW1974's revelation of the horrible plans for the Tower, I think I came as close to a panic attack as I've ever come. What hurt the most was not just the loss of the Tower - one of the best attractions ever built ANYWHERE (and I'm no stranger to theme parks overall, at least in the States) - but what its loss said about the mentality running The Walt Disney Company right now. What it said about the obliviousness, the greed, the shallowness, the puerile desire to milk an acquisition at the expense of a work of theme park art...I wondered then, why do I still care? Why should I continue to patronize parks that are now being desecrated for the sake of a dollar? That violate the philosophy that built them and made them successful in the first place? I'm not kidding, I was sick FOR DAYS over the news of the destruction of the Tower for a stupid Marvel overlay involving minor Marvel characters that had ONE movie do well. Wow, that's a GREAT reason to destroy one of the best things the Disney Imagineers ever created! And my dismay over its possible demise is not because I'm a huge fan of the Twilight Zone show. I'm aware of it, I think I've watched one episode (the one where the guy lost his glasses) - it's because when I first rode the Tower, I was frickin' blown away by it like no ride I've experienced before or since. It is NOTE PERFECT. There's not a weak spot in any part of it. In terms of storytelling, theme, effects and overall guest experience, it has few rivals. It's a peer of rides like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain. To destroy something so well-done just to sell a few more raccoon dolls is an offense to ANYONE who appreciates the Disney parks.

And if anyone from TDO reads this...guess what... maybe you old farts don't really understand the power of the internet. But you WILL. Wasn't the DCA Tower-Marvel overlay BOOED at Comic-Con, of all places? Why yes, I believe it was! http://www.bostonherald.com/lifesty...tower_of_terror_making_way_for_guardians_ride Do you really think you can keep doing STUPID things like this and get away with it forever? You and your pathetic broken yeti you haven't even TRIED to fix? Do you think you can keep violating Walt's intent and philosophy and then try to mask it with that same philosophy? Do you really think people are STUPID? Universal is catching up to you, and FAST, and stuff like the destruction of the Tower and forcing purchased IP into places where they don't belong WILL take its toll. Your prices are too high and your corner-cutting too obvious and there are OTHER PLACES TO GO. If you do this to the Tower, I will never set foot in DHS again and maybe never in WDW ever again. I'll give my dollars to Disneyland as long as it's still got enough of its original character and magic to make the cost worthwhile. Otherwise, I'll spend time I used to spend on Disney parks at Universal because at least Universal doesn't have a beloved founder whose well-known and cherished ideals it's trying to violate.

To you guys here who are also appalled by this: Thank you. Thank you for restoring my faith in the true fans of Walt's parks. You rock.
I remember seeing the announcement video but I didn't hear any booing.

Just wanted to link to Robert Niles latest puff/PR piece for Disney in the O.C. Register:

Wow. Just wow.
So let’s consider construction walls a conveniently ironic way to gauge the health of a theme park. If the sight of them instantly makes fans happy, the park’s probably not been doing so well. But when some fans complain, that just shows how much they appreciate what they once had.
Is he saying it's not possible for a successful park to be building something that makes everyone excited? Because it totally is.
I wouldn't mind some pretty crazy food. The waterbugs, crickets, grasshoppers and tarantulas sauted in spices and chile peppers I had in Cambodia where delicious.

View attachment 172031 Took this pic tonight and I can't begin to imagine how GotG fits. It's just an awful idea. I dare the most positive of pixie dusters to try and spin this yarn. All I can say is Save the Tower! Save the Tower! (would've said save the clock tower but I don't think a lot of you would get it ;) )

It was because of similar scenes in Western River Expedition.

Are there any people that were prominent in Disney (execs/Imagineers) when the original Tower was built that would say anything negative if the change was announced? Not saying I think that it would do anything, but it would certainly be interesting if some of those people commented on what Disney is doing to itself.

A day at the office of TDO.. Once we get ruin the best ride in the park and anger everyone, lets turn our focus to some other attractinons. Bob, what say you? Rockin and Star Tours are next, Fantasmic needs to go, BatB needs to be demolished, but I say we add more places to sell Frozen merchandise.

Bob Weis, the current head of Walt Disney Imagineering, was the creative lead on the Disney-MGM Studios and the Sunset Blvd expansion.

If nothing else, if Disney goes forward with a Guardians overlay for the Florida Tower, it will be fun to watch the hysterical backlash from casual fans on social media. The chorus of boos when Disney unveiled the California version at comiccon was a good start.

Observation: the Florida Tower will have had a pretty good run. At this point, it's been in operation nearly as long as 20,000 Leagues was.
I need to see video footage of the booing.

Livid!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I hope the backlash is just as bad if not worse than your park attendance is this year Disney because you deserve it. Selling your soul to the devil to make a quick buck and the lowest financial cost...it'll cost you in so many other ways.

If this is true, you really have lost me.

Excuse me while I go cry in a corner.:bawling:

I just truly don't understand the rationale. Why ToT was chosen for this I still can't wrap my head around. Not only from a fan's perspective, but even from the cheap bean counting executives' perspective...there are so many more attractions that could get a GotG overlay for far cheaper than retheming that massive tower (off the top of my head Star Tours, RnRC, and Stitch), and they may even be welcomed by fans. I hate to sound like one of Disney is evil truthers, but it's like they want to take away such an amazing attraction for some reason o_O

This says it perfectly. Why would you F up such a great immersive experience and let a mediocre, black light and neon paint half a** ride like RNRC remain unchanged. I don't think they get Walt's idea of plusing. Even GMR, keep it but update it, put all your movie IPs in there.

Invoking Walt is a great way to get laughed at and ruin your career these days.

This is a bad idea. Tower of Terror at DHS is a sacred attraction.
This line of thinking is the problem. When any attraction is viewed as being sacrosanct, all objectivity and rationality goes out the window. As I've said before, it makes perfect sense to use GoTG in ToT at DHS. Twilight Zone belongs in a rest home.

I agree that "sacred" goes too far. But ToT is an amazing attraction that is perfectly themed (In the ride area itself, In that area of the park, and in the park as a whole). It's widely considered one of the best Disney rides EVER. I'd be completely fine with Guardians replacing it IF it is just as amazing in every regard or even better. I, like others, doubt it will be able to fit as perfectly as ToT does as an icon to the park as a whole (which with its size, it will always be an icon). I love Guardians and I want a ride, I just think so many other places would work better as a retheme without getting rid of such an amazing ride and icon. I'd say Misson space or Rocking Roller Coaster are both better spots for a quick retheme aand a Guardians overlay could really IMPROVE both of those instead of, at absolute best, just not completely ruin ToT.

Then why can DCA still get the mega E-ticket Captain America coaster which sounds like it's sort of similar? I always thought WDW was the flagship resort.

The Walt Disney Company has made a legal commitment with the City of Anaheim to spend a minimum of $1.5 Billion on theme park expansion at the Disneyland Resort over the next five years. Disney has to spend that money. That means big, expensive theme park expansion will be coming fast and furious to Anaheim's two Disney theme parks in the next five years. Star Wars is just the start. Marvel is the next phase, coming up fast. A new luxury hotel and a big Frozen E Ticket is also in the works (the hotel has been announced, the Frozen E Ticket is still unannounced).

Disney has no legal obligation with any local or state government to spend anything at the Florida property.

Does Disney have to pay to license the TOT theme? I wonder how much of that has to do with the push to convert it over.

Likely a key factor. I imagine Iger thought of buying the IP. That would be the only way they would have continued with it. TZ does not play to Disney's strengths and so they will likely move on. Fortunately they have great options.

There is a real possibility that OLC could bargain to keep the IP in their park. So, it might still be possible the traditional ToT will live on there. Loving this journey.

Wrong. Disney holds no exclusivity on this. They simply pay for a license to use the IP on the tower. If someone else wanted to use it elsewhere they can right now. They just have to pay

My point was that another park might be willing to invest in a TZ universe if they had exclusive rights. For that to happen they would likely tell CBS or whomever, to end the Disney association. Time will tell.
