Open question: was the Disney/Netflix deal a mistake? Could having pay tv rights to recent theatrical releases been used to drive up the price of the Disney channel suite to counteract ESPN loses and keep folks in the Disney ecosystem?

Probably not, But the NBA renewal for ESPN certainly was as it tripled the cost of the contract for ESPN which was already bleeding subscribers.

So, I noticed this today while looking through the merch at DHS. The Christmas bulb necklaces were $15.02. What the heck kind of price is that. That's a perfect example of money grab right there. Tacking on 2 cents knowing most folks pay with some form of plastic anyway.

I typically don't complain (feel free to look at my previous posts with a glass half full of pixie dust) but I thought this was just silly.

Edit: see @peter11435 reply for clarification
Got those same Christmas lights on Amazon for $7. Disney has hiked up all the food prices, I'm not down to paying $5 for a Mickey Ice cream they need to get their act together.

Best part was the safety video with a delighted Stan Lee putting on his safety belt. LOL. It was entirely like Star Tours. They could have done a lot better.
Yes, they could have.

It actually sounds like Disney's Transformers though I think that was done because they couldn't use Spider-Man in USS or USH and they still wanted a ride like that. Then one day they just decided to bring it to Orlando.

From the HKDL plans it sounds like they're just transforming Tomorrowland into Marvel Land (whole different can of worms there) so I guess this works for that park. It's probably still fun but pales against its older sibling, again like Transformers.

Impressions on Rogue One.

Consider the fanboy frenzy fed. Fanboys will love it. More casual fans may be surprised or put off. This is more episode 3 level of intensity and darkness than 4,5,6,7. Not that the acting or direction is similiar to three, but from tone. It will be interesting to see if kids/families take to the film.

This is not 7 or the typical Marvel movie either.

I can see why Iger initially recoiled and resorted to safer Han Solo material for further films. Even if this film does well, I doubt we see much more of this. Rogue One should be "one" of a kind.

If this was the less dark version, I'd be interested to see the pre reshoot version. That must have been a blood bath.

Settings and places were fantastic. The cinematography was gorgeous. The visuals are truly striking. Acting very very well done. The ensemble really shined. The two main leads both have great performances.

I will give this disappointing news, no Jar Jar! ;)

I agreed with most of this, but a handful of other observations.
I'm a casual Star Wars fan and immediately recognize Tarkin as being a CG character. Having said that, they did a good job with bringing back necessary people in CG.

I didn't think the character development was really there in this movie and a confusing component was Riz Ahmed's psuedo brain washing seemed to be largely unnecessary and nothing more than a waste of time. Did I miss something?

Can Disney do any wrong with the management of their divisions on the film front?

Marvel smashing it film after film
They've hit it out of the park with both Star Wars'
Pixar continues to fire on all cylinders
A strong start of live action remakes
Their animation division is on a real awesome run...Tangled, Wreck It, Frozen, Zootropolis, Moana

Disney take a lot of stick round here but wow, they can do no wrong on the film front at the moment. Long may it continue.

Pretty Crazy that Disney hit the $7B in theatrical revenue today. Quite the milestone considering how few movies the studio put out.

I do wonder if this strategy this year actually lowered the takes on several of their movies. Was Jungle Book short changed by Civil War? Alice and BFG feel like they could have been bigger at other dates on the calendar? Is Moana under-performing?

Disney is doing a pretty good job on marketing these movies one at a time, but when they start to pile on top of each other, the messaging gets lost. WB seems to do a better job hyping multiple movies at the same time.

I hope Iger is thanking his good fortune in securing Alan Horn as well as inheriting Kevin Feige, Kathleen Kennedy and John Lasseter.

The other studios besides WB had a weak year with nothing major so it makes some sense for how well Disney has done this year. I think we will see a flip with another studio taking the lead next year followed back to Disney the following year with the patterning continuing.

It's ultimately been his success in securing the right people for the right roles and keeping them there which has given the company the platform for this increadible success. I don't think Iger has been good for Disney World, but on the movie front it is quite the achievement.

This is why the parks need a visionary who is allowed to run them as they should be. They are getting it right everywhere else.

Alice sequel and BFG probably could have been bigger at another time and Pete's Dragon didn't need to be remade. Should have been a Figment movie. That's why Pirates 5 to me feels out of place now but I'm sure it won't bomb. I'm still a little surprised BFG wasn't a bigger hit.

In my opinion only Dreamworks and Illumination can challenge the typical Disney and Pixar offerings and it's rarely a competition. The top 2 respective franchises of Universals animation divisions are Shrek and Despicable Me, both of which can be defined as 1 good film and a series of poorly implemented cash ins (arguably shrek 2 was decent too).

On the Super Hero front, it hasn't quite worked for DC. I have high hopes for Spider-Man.

Not sure who would take the lead next year between the big 3, but I can't see any studio hitting $7B for 2017. But likely Disney will regain in 2018 and possibly break new records.

It appears the re shoots had to do with the ending. The trailers had shots of her carrying the hard drive across the beach with K2 and the other guy. In the version we saw, the hard drive never leaves the tower but there are numerous shots of her carrying it across the beach area in earlier trailers. Other speculation was on making Jyn more likable earlier in the movie. No I rebel quote like in one of the trailers.
