A Spirited Valentine ...

Because 'Avatar' doesn't exactly resonate with the general public like 'Harry Potter' does - One movie in 2009 vs. eight over 15 years. I've never even seen 'Avatar', wasn't interested in the plot, the visuals, et al. But Iger thought he could do with it what Uni did with HP. In other words, an ego play.

The land will be a success if it's transportive and awe-inspiring. I haven't seen much in the marketing to convince me that it will be. Diagon looks like a specific place -- it's recognizable and open to exploration with shops, alleys, etc.

Avatar has a lot riding on its environment; it blends with the natural look of DAK, but that's also a marketing liability. Aesthetically, it's not visually reading as unique, and that will make it a harder sell for the general public.

That's all your opinion though and you're welcome to it.

They really don't care if you personally are transported or if you or the public agree with aesthetics- those are just avenues to the actual thing they want. For Disney, success will be measured in time spent, merchandise, food, occupancy and other things. All of those are simply elegant ways of demonstrating Disney's true measure of success: MONEY. They care about outcomes and bottom lines. Sorry to disappoint you- Universal doesn't care either in case you're wondering.

I would disagree...they want people to be transported...true they may not be looking to one individual person's approval, but if people are not moved..transported, and amazed they will not spend the money...which will hurt their bottom line.
I would say they care very much about how this huge gamble is going to come off... and I would agree with Talking head, I have not seen anything as of yet that really hooks me... I am hopeful that in person it will be a wow.

I hope they hide the white tubes, that looks bad. Maybe it will be covered by water. I'll wait to judge until it's opened.

That tube won't be covered except by a bit more water, but it's not going to be white either.

Now why they chose to place a staircase up the other side of an active volcano makes no sense, nor does the entire hollow thing. Not convincing at all- quite surprising really.

This is the "money shot" of the whole park! I really hope it looks better with more water and when the slides colors blend better with their background. I really hope they don't mess this up.

Honestly, the way the lighting is being talked about, it sounds like Pandora could be an entirely different thing to experience between daytime and nighttime. And it certainly seems to fit well with RoL in making AK more of a 1/2 to 3/4 day experience. I've stated this previously, that I'm looking forward to experiencing the new "land", but that it just doesn't have a ton of pull for me.

Now, if only they'd do something with Dinoland, like getting rid of the spinner and local amusement park wild mouse ride, along with the carnie games, and give us a ride or two with some substance. ;) I like "Dinosaur", although I admit I liked it better as CTX, and don't wish to see that go away anytime soon.

Well, the same sign read Tom Staggs for a long time. There is also one for Bob Iger.

I have a picture of that one as well. I can see Iger having a sign on Castaway Cay, seeing as how he green-lit the two newest ships. It's also a bit more tastefully done than the stick-out-like-a-sore-thumb egomaniac sign that Chappie has (and even has a nice inclusion of his wife on the sign, and it fits in perfectly).

How could the tube not be clear yet if it's going to be?
Does it have some kind of protective vinyl wrap on it as they finish working?

Decent read, Goddard being a Universal Tool has been happening since the early 90's- nothing new there. He had the world convinced that IOA was going to flatten Disney. He also said DisneySea would be a flop.

The best part about that article was this:

Thoughts on his Cirque Du Soleil park in Mexico? Of all the licensed parks that have been proposed over the last 10-15, it's surprising the one that would be built is Cirque's.

The placement of that park at the southernmost point of their property still baffles me. This park should have been built on the land Sapphire Falls sits on so guests could see Krakatau on their way to the other parks.
