Those nighttime pictures of Avatar? Yikes. Disney's marketing is struggling to sell this thing to the general public.

You're right, Disney extending AK's hours by 3 or 4 per day plus the EMH every single day for the first couple of months definitely means they're struggling to sell it. They're just not expecting anyone to show up. ;)

AK's hours for that time period dwarf even Magic Kingom's.

Because 'Avatar' doesn't exactly resonate with the general public like 'Harry Potter' does - One movie in 2009 vs. eight over 15 years. I've never even seen 'Avatar', wasn't interested in the plot, the visuals, et al. But Iger thought he could do with it what Uni did with HP. In other words, an ego play.

I noticed that when the hours were first released, and thought the same thing - "They must be expecting a TON of people in the first couple of months". Not sure it has the staying power of HP, but Disney is definitely going to try.

That's only if you think a super popular IP is absolutely needed for a land or attraction to be successful. Plenty of things disprove that.

How do you figure?
Releasing nighttime pictures of a themed area is de-facto evidence of marketing desperation?

Where'd I say that? It's the substance of the nighttime pictures that's disappointing. I thought the land was going to look bioluminescent at night with the area surrounded by plants that glow. Those pictures didn't convey that at all. Looks more like a landscape of blue flood lights.

If they're going for a "wait 'til you see this place at night" vibe, those pics, especially the ones at ground level, aren't getting the job done.
