P&R currently is second in production of Spendable Cash, Media networks is still #1 but ESPN is pulling that down,

Remember Disney charges a huge nut for each subscriber and the Disney properties are sold as a 'bundle' to the cableco's How long that continues is an interesting question.

From Statista - 2016 Revenue By Segment

It will be interesting to see the numbers come the end of 2018. They have to come up with some sort of streaming system.

The problem is that Disney is unwilling to make the upfront and continuing tech investments that streaming implies, You cant do streaming by buying the gear and assuming you can run it for the next decade, Streaming is expensive and the gear used has a economic life of about 2-3 years so you cant play tax games with it.

For an example look at Akamai who hosts many of the worldwide streaming sites including FIFA

Would it be the same type of investment and upkeep they made for the MagicBands?

I'd actually like that. All of their movies will be on there then.

Most of their films are already on there due to the deal already made last year. The issue is if Dis was to take over Netflix they may prioritize their shows and movies over shows from outside studios which leads to other companies creating their own infrastructure to counter that with Netflix becoming solely Disney and every other company having their own meaning the consumers lose.

A couple orders of magnitude greater investment would be required with DIRECT connectivity to all major and regional ISP's Data centers geographically isolated with redundant power/cooling/internet with no 'shared segments' You are probably talking about start up costs on the order of 10-20 billion dollars plus 5-7 billion per year to run them exclusive of content licenses.
