A Spirited Valentine ...

The way I envision a Deadpool ride is as a retheme of the Storm Force teacup ride in IoA.

Why you ask? Because Deadpool is Deadpool and Deadpool likes some stupid stuff. He would proudly announce how amazing his new ride is and how much better it is than Spider-Man's. Multiple times he would also regret having to refrain from foul language due to Universal being a "family place" breaking the fourth wall. He did find a way around it though and put it right in the name of his amazing new ride:

"Deadpool's Sit & Spin"

^^^ THIS ^^^ - That's a really good way of describing Deadpool, Although for the ride name perhaps "Deadpool's Whirl-n-Hurl'

Oh, and just a quick note, but an important one that came to me earlier tonight but ... all those plans for HKDL, TDL and EPCOT ... are all in flux right now. Just because Disney has said things are happening doesn't mean they are or in the manner announced or on the timelines. Just a word to anyone planning trips or thinking on making decisions based upon when they think things will open or change etc. A lot of things are being rethunk in the swamps. And HK is having major political problems with backing Disney's plans. And TDL plans are actually becoming more impressive, but changes are happening ... and that is all.

Any chance Disney is pushing big investment dollars to HK to get ownership of the park, as they have done in Paris? They had to have expected pushback with those attendance numbers and the investment request.

I missed that on first viewing. It is an odd word to include if this were the final movie. This movie did have an unusually long post-production (production wrapped almost 2-years prior to release date). Maybe in post they decided to spread it over two movies (like The Hobbit sequel) but decided to keep it under wraps?

I was wondering the same thing. The rumored budget for POTC5 seems crazy high if it was just one movie, especially when folks were bragging about how much money they saved by filming in Australia and putting the ships on some sort of track thing. But it would make a ton of sense if they actually filmed 2 movies and not just 1. It would be very Jack Sparrow does Beyonce.

Disney will NEVER own any business in China as China has laws restricting non-Chinese entities to minor partner status so Disney can never own more than 49% of any business in China.

China's a really FUN place to do business where you can lose everything overnight if the any level of the Chinese government takes a dislike to you.

Hence my prediction that Disney's gonna be on the hook for paying 100% of the HKDL upgrades, That is if they want to keep their interest in that park...

Terminator was an "R" and it was turned into an attraction, so it's been done before.

Deadpool's R is not the same R as Terminator though lol.

I agree and not saying it can't be done. Also PG-13 came out the year Terminator came out, so not sure that was an option at the time and let's face facts, the movie industry has changed a lot since then. I bet if Terminator came out today it would be PG-13. Also, Universal is not Disney, who I thought tries for Family entertainment at the parks.

Technically 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' was turned into an attraction. Still an R rated movie (came out in 1991, several years after PG-13 was released), but yeah, it's for a much different reason than Deadpool.

I can see the studio pushing for it (why have one $900mil grosser, when you can have two $700mil grossers for the same price), I just wonder if it would be possible/desirable to keep such a thing under wraps. Rumors/reserved 2018 weekend would have gotten around by now.

Agreed. If they didn't make 2 movies, then I'm pretty sure they are screwed on the total profit from this movie even if it makes $900M WW.

Las Vegas Sands owns a 70% steak in Sands China which owns and operates a half dozen hotels and casinos in Macao. Wynn Las Vegas also owns around 70% of its Macao subsidiary. So it's possible to be a majority owner in China (at least in Hong Kong anyway), but you do still do have to have a Chinese partner. Disney could never pull a EuroDisney there.

Most of my business is in Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing

As I understood China and the HK SAR were supposed to be harmonizing economic policy.

Neither Special Administrative Region requires any local or Chinese ownership. Disney could own 100% of Hongkong International Theme Parks, Ltd.

Interesting. I just assumed it was required since the American companies I'm familiar with all had a partner there. Maybe it was just easier or less risky setting it up that way. I admit my knowledge is limited to a few casino companies whose stocks I follow and Disney so not exactly a large sample set.
