I agree with you, but you know how Hollywood loves their power ballads that pop artists can cover.
I personally believe the absolutely terrible Alessia Cara pop version is one of the reasons it lost out. Unlike "Let it Go" (where Disney records pushed the theatrical version for radio airplay over the Demi Lovato cover), Disney seemed to favor the pop version in Marketing and on the radio (so I imagine that was in the voters' minds, not Cravalho's superior voice).

Honest question... why do they even put out those pop versions? Why not let the actual song stand on its own?

You DO know why Tomorrowland looks 'half done' it's because the cost overruns at DLP in '96-98 required that funding be pulled from WDW and redirected to DLP. It's also one reason Beastly Kingdom never got built at AK. The DLP has been a money sink from DAY ONE and should have been spun off long ago.

You DO know I am far more knowledgable about TWDC and its inner workings than you are. Beyond just stuff I've read on the Internet as you are limited to. I'm well aware of the issues DLP has had and how they have (and have not) effected WDW.

It is primarily done for marketing purposes.
The 'pop single' version is used for promoting a film via radio, music video, and in some cases live 'concert' performances.
Marketing assumes having a well known singer, popular tween idol, or Radio Disney personality doing a 'cover version' of a animated films' tune will gather more attention publicity wise.

An example - 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'
Releasing the 'pop single' version performed by a big name star like Elton John gets far more radio play and press attention then just releasing the 'original' with the character voices.
Many Disney films have purposesly recorded a 'single release' version of the films perceived signature song.

I have to say that almost all 'single' versions are pretty lousy compared to the original versions contained within the film.
The exception that immediately comes to my mind is the 'single versions' Phil Collins did for promoting 'Tarzan'.

As bad as it was it could have been worse...

Wow...that is one of the worst yet. :depressed: Rap music to give one of those clean cut Disney families with impossibly bright coloured clothes some street cred? They tough guys from da' hood because they are going to brave a kiddie coaster?

Also, did they massively speed up the video to make it appear as if they had built an actual coaster? :cautious:
