Guardians tower summary (obviously there are spoilers, but no pictures or film of the inside of the attraction).

Especially referring to his comments at the bottom of the article, Robert is really working hard to maintain his Disney favored blogger status. He's trying harder than Disney to sell this as thematically appropriate.

Once again Disney/ESPN management shows their utter cluelessness

Now ESPN can kiss the Morning drive time slot buh-bye. Looks like Mike Golic is history now.

Mike and Mike WAS drive time radio for a huge audience. And even if you were not a sports fan it was fun to listen to. Because the show was about the interplay between the Mikes.

FS1 must be breaking out the champagne right about now.

Time to short DIS
I love Mike and Mike. I always watch them when I'm traveling. :(

Here's another view of the slow motion train wreck that is ESPN

It's interesting that this article calls out overpaying for broadcast rights is the number one cause of ESPN's bad numbers coupled with bad ratings which declined 7 pct for ESPN and 34 pct for ESPN2. Whether Disney likes it or not thats gonna be a massive hit to advertising rates

Oh wow, this might be the nadir of WDI's penchant for excessive story. Robert Niles really loves this. That's not obvious or anything.

The "synopsis" actually reminds me of one of the reasons I don't like the Marvel movies: atmosphere and tone are supplanted by too much overbaked plot. Anyone wanna guess which of those WED perfected in the 1960s?

I'd forgotten that he was probably one of the first incredibly vocal supporters of the switch.
If Mission Break-out was a new build, in a third Anaheim park (or even putting a version in Stitch), I wouldn't be angry about this. But because it's a reskin of an attraction that does not fit thematically in a park about California (though like others have said, Bugs Life and Monsters Inc don't fit either), I'm ticked off.

Also, like other people on the boards have mentioned, the ride's ending sort of kills the continuity that the original had.

Ye gods it looks like carp and has convoluted backstory. Yep a Modern Disney attraction all right

It basically sounds like Alien Encounter, but the satirical "Greedy aliens comes to Earth to make a buck" plotline is subtle only in this sense

There's no question that WDI starting going story-crazy in the 1990s. But as someone who doesn't speak fluent Marvelese, this synopsis sounded like a classic case of overplotting a theme park ride.

I'd also say WDI in the early Eisner years had a better handle on how to use plot in big rides -- Star Tours, Splash Mountain, Tower OG, etc. At least Alien Encounter delivered its satire in a general "big bad corporation" way. I'm not convinced the satire of Guardians Tower will translate if you don't know (or don't care) who the Collector is.

Seems pretty straightforward to me. An rich alien wants to exploit people's love of superheroes and make a buck by kidnapping a bunch of superheroes and putting them on display in what amounts to a giant tourist trap museum.

In other words, the antagonist of this ride has an identical motive to Bob Chapek himself.

Bob Chapek is an antagonist in the attraction. The attraction takes place at Disneyland Resort, meaning Disney worked with The Collector to put people held in bondage on display. In his haste to accomplish the franchise dream of an attraction opening to support a franchise film, Bob approved a story in which he is a despicable monster.
