'followed' a lot of beats? It was 1 degree away from 'direct rip off'. It really hurt the film instead of being nods to the source material.
Ok, not like almost every story follows that exact format though or anything...

Not what I was referring to at all.. and its pretty obvious. No one is talking about the plot *structure*, but the direct rip off of characters, roles, antogonists, 'oh look, another death star..'.. another yoda figure... oh look, another person who doesn't know their parents.. yadda yadda yadda.

I'm not going to rathole on this.. there is nothing to prove here that 99% of the self-aware world knew walking out of the theater.

The visual aide..

JJ said it was to make things 'familiar'. They went too far and made it a comical rip. Excuse me while I go into the local cantina to try to find a ship to get me off this rock..

I'm talking about that unleash the villains thing at DHS where they had characters like Gantu meeting.

If only each of us here had the same influence as a Saudi prince. Oh, the changes we could make :)

So it's gone from "Frozen Land" to a more general Scandinavia like Aladdin in Arabian Coast?

The beans. Spill them.

Unleash the Villains had (at meet and greet stations around Echo Lake):
  • Evil Queen and Shan Yu (rotating shifts at station 1)
  • Maleficent and Jafar (rotating shifts at station 2)
  • Oogie Boogie and Bowler Hat Guy (rotating shifts at station 3)
Caveat: I may be off on which characters met at which stations.

Hades and Meg MC'd the event on-stage. Also roaming around at the DJ Dance party (I think) were Dr. Facilier, Hook, Frollo, and other Villains. I missed a lot of the dance party villainy being in line for the Evil Queen meet and greet. :angelic:

So I just debriefed a coworker who was at the world for the last week. He is a 'disney is awesome' guy.. he doesn't study it, he just thinks the WDW experience is incredible and Disney is magic.. kind of guy. He has two kids (4 and 8) so he is prime demographic. He pays for a deluxe, he buys the dining plan.. he uses a travel agent. Disney's prime type of customer. When I talk to him about the realities that I know of and my longer term experiences with Disney, it usually falls on deaf ears because he doesn't have the same perspective.

Anyway.. chatted today after he's back from a stay at AKL in a savannah view DVC room. First thing he talked about? How awful the buses were.. like.. almost ruin my vacation type of tale. Waiting 40mins for a bus.. or stories like 'bus service started at 4pm to DS, but first bus didn't show until 4:30, and with traffic we didn't get to DS until almost 5:30'. Remember, this is the guy who just pays to make problems go away.. and his take away was "AKL was cool, but I'll never stay there again due to the buses". And it wasn't just 'at park close', but problems moving between locations.. problems moving between resorts.. complaints about the AK bus sharing stops with the water parks and of course the different AK stops. It also took them more than 2hrs to get to his resort on Magical Express due to slow boarding and multiple drop offs. Arriving at 1am after a 2hr ME experience was not a great kickoff for his vacation.

He didn't do parkhoppers, and actually said he was glad he didn't, because he felt like he would never be able to use them due to how long it was taking to get anywhere with the buses.

My takeaway from my visit the week prior was I was amazed by how bad traffic has gotten around property now, even during the normal daytime hours.. where are all these people coming/going ??? Driving on property used to be an easy alternative because it was pretty much carefree except at park closing.

But was shocking to me was this was the first time this guy has ever been anything but 'Disney can do no wrong'. The conversation was really he was talking about NOT going back to WDW after this experience. The transportation issues drug his enjoyment of his trip down that bad.

It was a similar (not buses) experience during initial MouseArrest band testing that soured me on much of what Disney is doing these days.

Before that trip hardcore pixie duster, after that trip Disney Curmudgeon. Amazing how DIS managed to turn decades of loyalty into active dislike in only 10 days onsite at BLT...

I surmise.that the increased volume of traffic is due to the sad state of.available.bus transport and prices of on-site accommodation.

How many people here drive from on-site resort not out of.convenience but out of efficiency?

To all you young whippersnappers--- wait until you are 84 and have experienced WDW for most of its anniversaries, always as an adult, for over forty years. Then you really know that it certainly is not what it once was. Sure, change is to be expected and experiences at the park should be kept current with what is wanted by new generations. It is still possible to have a good time at WDW if you don't dwell on the things you miss, some inconveniences or how you wish it was. Plus, new things are coming..
However, it is inescapable that it is more crowded than ever, TODDLERS RULE, attractions have been closed or replaced by meet and greets called attractions, the whole property is now becoming less an oasis than an urban jungle, many of the little things like prime viewing areas now cost extra for a party, parades have disappeared and what were once little freebies simply do not exist. While it was always expensive, the value of what you are receiving for the money spent has declined the same as it has with many other companies...
Obviously, someone in their twenties or thirties cannot compare what it was with what it is now. You realistically can't compare what is now with something never experienced..

Had a *very* brief trip to 'Walt's Park' (brief as in hours, too much other stuff to do with too little time to do it).

Security Theatre needs to go away... Having to leave 'the bubble' meant I wasn't going to check out the Grand Californian...

Park itself... having IASW desecrated by IP takes so much away from the Mary Blair original... I actually prefer the WDW version greatly, even in it's present upkeep...

Hot dog cart was decent for what it offered. $6 large dogs with basic condiments (and no wait) that provided 'feed' to maximize the limited park time.

On my way out, before I even went under the railroad, you can see what happened to the Tower (guess the berm isn't high enough anymore). Released art doesn't do this disgrace 'justice'...

Long Beach Airport is AWESOME (as in convenient, quick to board & disembark plane via front AND back, quick to get luggage and rental car, quick to return, easy to get to and from via the roadways)...

If kids need IP in order to connect with the various cultures represented in IASW (not that they'd even connect THEN), then they should be spending more time in school and not playing 'hooky' by spending needed Learning Time in the parks...

The characters really don't bother me. They are all tastefully done and don't really detract... And I find it quite fun trying to track them all down... When I went to MK for the first time I was disappointed by Small World in general and that was definitely a negative to me, I like the characters. :)

It was just a teaser like the Black Friday teaser a year before Force Awakens comes out. Plenty of time for better footage. I watched the panel today and it was hilarious how they teased the crowd who they knew were dying for a trailer so they showed the poster first and the reaction was "awww" lol and then they gave them all one and acted as if no trailer would be shown but then they showed it.

Only thing that slightly bothered me was
them implying where Luke has been would need to be filled in by us. Even though Kennedy said he has a significant role. I mean it could be they do explain things but then they're delving more into Rey and Finn, which they should, but Rose also comes into the picture. I think they may be trying to serve too many characters.

If the characters did not detract from the ride, then you and others would not be consumed with trying to find them. Even Disney realized that this game of "hide and go seek" was clearly a change in the focus of the attraction and removed such wording from the Hong Kong Disneyland website as part of its attack against Al Lutz's "lies."

Just a random question but anyone think they could announce something big for the water parks at D23. I know it's unlikely but they could both use more attractions especially a thriller at TL and maybe another raft ride at BB.

FWIW....

I just returned from a week at WDW. At AKL. In DVC accommodations....

Magical Express was a joke. Waited nearly an hour to leave the airport, then got dropped off after POP and AOA. Nearly 2 hours. Horrible.

Aside from Disney Springs, which we waited approx 45 minutes for a bus each way, bus service was normal. The wait times were not excessive, rarely more then 10 minutes. And we rode the buses 4x per day.

There was issues elsewhere, and if you click my super sweet trip report http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/live-ish-blog-my-thoughts-and-observations-april-7-13.926066/ you'll see I have discussed them. ahem, scooters, ahem....

Agree to disagree I guess :)
