Agreed on all counts.

I just thought before we went down the road of "low-brow spectacle crap" with Frozen it was time for a bit of a reality check; we often forget because of how highly we revere Disney classics, but in general the term "Disney-fied" is a huge pejorative and pretty much the worst thing you can say about something artistically in "high brow" circles. It stands for precisely what Frozen was being accused of - watered down, pandering, crass commercialization, no "nutritional" value.

Now, I may not agree with that, because the snottier you get about culture the less you truly understand it, but if we are going to talk about artistic value, it must be mentioned if we are going to go there.

Agree, Walt's vision was never about Haute Culture his vision centered around MASS culture and how do we create stories which appeal to EVERYONE, Not this stupid market segmentation strategy which started under MDE's 'Strategic Planning Group' and found its full expression under Iger and cronies.

I'm not sure why people believe the aim of these price differences is crowd-spreading.

After all, reducing crowds is surely not Disney's aim... the quicker the Once-In-A-Lifetime Must-Do-Everything guest can knock off all the attractions, the quicker they can leave... and even though their 3-day ticket may cost much the same as Family B's 10-day ticket, that's a lot of hotel days, in-park dining, impulse purchases that Disney are missing out on.

No; all things being equal park crowding is a self-resolving problem. The price differences are just basic market segmentation. People who visit on weekends and during the summer are likely to be the type of guest who does so because they have no choice. They won't be deterred by higher prices... after all, in the case of the July crowd, they're not deterred by higher crowds. They'll either go during the expensive days or not at all.

That said, I'm sure "reducing crowds during popular times of the year to make the experience more magical for all our guests" will be how the Disney PR machine spins it if they go ahead with it...

The strategic planning group was a product of Eisner. One of his biggest mistakes.

I don't think any of us strongly believe that is the reason, we are simply going through all the possible crazy reasons someone could think this would work.

That said, I do think that it's very clear with a little thing called MM+ that Disney very much wants you to spend as little time on the attractions as possible - because in most cases you aren't spending money then. They want you in lines less, so you spend more time walking around and into shops and buying churros.

But...but...but...it was Iger who ruined the parks! I-G-E-R! Nothing less than perfect ever happened under Eisner, he made sweet love to the parks and everything would have been perfectly fine if anyone but Iger had taken over and dismantled his brilliance brick by brick.

Right, Iger just exacerbated the problem 10 fold. In his final years we still got Mission: SPACE, Soarin', and Expedition Everest under Eisner. Iger's first WDW E Ticket still doesn't open for another 2 years and he took over in 2005.

According to weekend estimates, Tomorrowland is going to plummet 61% from last weekend and only make 12.1 mill. There's no chance for it to make 100 mill domestically now

I hope Tomorrowlands box office performance won't cancel Del Toro's Haunted Mansion film. It already effected Tron 3

Uh, no one outside of Fanbois had any interest in a third Tron movie.

God forbid they do something original, outside of the marvel/Star Wars/ just another sequel model.

The worst is they did (Tomorrowland) and despite the lofty ideals and themes that the film discusses, it just didn't work the way the story played out.

Pretty sure del toro killed that one. The man has too many pjojects on his plate... I too am a HUGE fan of the idea. I haven't heard anything new about the project in over a year. I'd love to see it get the Pirates treatment... then again I was hoping tomorrowland would be hugely successful and help the park too.

I noticed that in the non-blackout periods, the lark train nearly runs me over, there is a sea of SUV strollers, and University of Miami t-shirts. It's just an observation.

Del Toro just announced Ryan Gosling is starring earlier in the month. Certainly sounds like the wheels are turning again.

Nope. No need for any more Pirates movies either.

The whole idea of "franchises" needs to sent out to go Fishing with Fredo.

UM/UCF... Either way, same result.

The sea of strollers? That's a day that ends in "Y" .... The stroller rental companies in Orlando all rent those jogging strollers & the double-wides jogging strollers.

The big problem is that society believes that their kid needs a stroller, regardless of the age.
