Yes, Avatar was a thing way back in 2009. Mainly because it ushered in a new era of 3D. Wow, feels so long ago already....almos feel like we need to explain to the kids how we old people had 2D blockbusters...

But Avatar is not character driven. Cinderella is not a thing without her. But not Avatar. It doesn't matter no one can name a single character. On the contrary, more's the better. WDW could build an entire AVland without a single character. The central element of Avatar is the exoplanet, the alien lifeforms, with their bioluminescence and interconnectedness. This aspect is remembered by everybody who's seen it.

And even if they don't, or have never seen the movie in the first place, that doesn't matter. IP doesn't make a Disney park, or else all of the criticism of the fanbase the past 15 years has been mistaken.
Jake Sully is pretty easy to remember. I'll admit I don't remember any character names out side of that though. I do remember that Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana were in the movie though, couldn't tell you their character names other than that Weaver's character was the Doctor.

Awesome! Bring on the live-action remake of The Aristocats starring Grumpy Cat! Instant bank, Iger.
I nominate Keyboard Cat to play one of O'Mally's jazz cats, such talent and perfect casting as you can see-

Really the only live action remake I'm looking forward to is Beauty and the Beast. That has a legit shot at making 1 bill
I kind of want to see it too. Don't know if it has a chance at 1 billion, but the fact that it's a musical that will use the original tunes has me quite intrigued.

Ive learned to accept Frozen for what it is.... and learned to 'Let it Go.'

I'm just disappointed in the lack of reinvestment in the Orlando parks. Imagine what that extra $800M that went to the Shanghai project could have done in Orlando.....
you mean they could build 2 more themed bathrooms and a new meet and greet?

With the TDO money conversion rate, it would have bought us a fancier meet & greet and a themed snow cone stand. And it would have taken seven years to build.

;)

hah! great minds think alike!

Well, The crowds already ARE evened out. About 120 days in, 18 days were 3 or below. 28 days were 7 or above. Everything else was a good 4-6. What Glendale is doing with this tiered pricing idea is ... well its price gouging and pretty messed up. The idea that M-F has low attendance or is "off peak" is ridiculous.

The Data simply does not support that.
it still gives them excuse to charge MORE for LESS by claiming almost every day is "higher tier busy day"

Pretty sure del toro killed that one. The man has too many pjojects on his plate... I too am a HUGE fan of the idea. I haven't heard anything new about the project in over a year. I'd love to see it get the Pirates treatment... then again I was hoping tomorrowland would be hugely successful and help the park too.
he might be less busy now that Konami kicked both their main Japanese programmer (kojima?) and Del Toro by canceling the next Silent Hill.

Uh, no one outside of Fanbois had any interest in a third Tron movie.

God forbid they do something original, outside of the marvel/Star Wars/ just another sequel model.

The worst is they did (Tomorrowland) and despite the lofty ideals and themes that the film discusses, it just didn't work the way the story played out.

Still bought it was a good movie! Marketing for movie lacked but movie was good.

I noticed Disney Pictures tweeted a list of Easter eggs in Tomorrowland and encouraged moviegoers to look for them. It includes such gems as "How many Disney related items did you spot?" and "How many Star Wars items did you spot?"

Now, setting aside the fact that this list encourages moviegoers to review the list on their brightly-lit Smartphones in the darkened theater, it reeks of marketing desperation. I guess it's supposed to goad the fanatics into taking in a second or third viewing? Or maybe it's tacit admission that the movie is more enjoyable if you look at it as a series of in-jokes for Disney fans?

Given the movie's box office, I guess we can chalk up another success to Disney social media.

"Desperate" was the word that also came to my mind when I saw this. They were literally having Parks Blog readers recruit people to go see Tomorrowland. All hands on deck!

Did you see the new film “Tomorrowland” over the weekend? On Friday, May 22, 500 Disney Parks Blog readers were treated to a special screening of the film – and were then made honorary Tomorrowland recruiters. Armed with Tomorrowland pins, our group returned to Magic Kingdom Park to search for brilliant minds and optimistic people who could shape the future.

The truth is Disney doesn't care what Universal does. The imagineers "bring it on" comment at D23 when questioned about Potter is all you need. NFL was a project to help capacity at MK which ended up not helping that much. It's still a madhouse. The knee jerk reaction to get the rights to Avatar is probably the closest thing to an "answer" we have, no matter how delayed it is from what it was supposed to "answer" to.
Honestly, it will be hard for any new additions to NOT make that place a madhouse right now. WDW needs to make sure crowds are spread out at DAK/DHS/Epcot at NIGHT. More often than not, guests go to DHS/DAK and then skip on over to MK for the nighttime stuff and because it's open the latest.

MK can't be the only night park. That in and of itself is the reason for the capacity problems the park is facing.

Not arguing that. Arguing that Hollywood 0- Disney specifically - needs more originality and less of these tentpole, franchise crap. (That opinion may change on December 18th)

I don't disagree it needs more originality.

That is why I keep saying it is actually a good movie and worth seeing.

Cause not every movie will be a hit or perfect and this one had some flaws but overall it was still entertaining and overall worth a watch.

It reminds me of the activity placemats restaurants use to entertain children.
