A Spirited Perfect Ten

All this renewed talk about what could have been if Disney had the won JK Rowling's heart and had the rights to the Harry Potter franchise got me back to thinking about my thoughts at the time of the Universal announcement being worried that it was really going to be the loss of the Kuka Robocoaster that was really going to hurt Disney.

How foolish I was...

You actually have to build new attractions for the loss of the Kuka tech to be felt.

Unfortunately, the World (WDW) wouldn't have been much different with Potter or without I'm afraid as long as the current management methodology is in place. I would argue that if Disney got Potter and it was a success, it would've further emboldened the stagnation process in Orlando. Theme park fans are better off the way things played out.
absolutely agree
Look what potter has done for universal

Since we're going to rip on F&W for serving alcohol, can we at least agree that parents need to keep their children out of bars?

I mean, I don't drink in their daycare center. Can they extend the same courtsey?

Its the same parents who will cry that Epcot is drunkytown yet have no problem letting their kid eat diner at the bar to avoid having to wait for a table but will stare daggers at me if I use adult language at said bar. Take little Sally and her chicken tenders outside if you dont like it. Crews Cup is my safe haven...for now

A manger at T-Rex saw my wife and I peeking in and told us there was plenty of room at the bar to sit so he escorted us in only to find the bar FULL of parents with children. His expression conveyed his concern for all the alcohol revenue flying down the drain as all the moms and their pups were only drinking soda. In an attempt to generate some type of profit for the bar he offered that we could order drinks and stand on the side. lol. We declined.

I thought there was a Florida law that stated you couldn't sit directly at a bar unless you're 21, but maybe tables near the bar don't count?
I thought so as well, but there must be some loophole that allows Disney around it. I couldnt imagine they would take the risk as often as Ive seen it happen. Whats more sad is a parent who willingly places their child at a seat where they are surrounded by alcohol AND adults that are drinking it, all in an effort to avoid waiting for a table. A young mind is a sponge and all that....

You know... there is a lot of truth in this Simpson's reference; however, I think the more appropriate turn of the phrase for WDW would be "We've tried nothing... and we're getting away with it".

Deep down, I think there are still ideas in Disney Parks. There's just no incentive from management to act upon them or fund them. The gates are still spinning with the complete malaise the resort has fallen into. It's gone from "foot on the gas pedal", to "let's just put it on cruise control for a bit", to "hey, we're coasting", to finally "we're going downhill now, we should probably pump the brakes".

How does adult language really play? I talk to my kids all the time and I think their vocabulary is bigger than mine. Now if you are talking about being a pottymounth, well, there really is no place for that in a public establishment. You want to talk dirty, call 1-900-Lifeboy.

Technically there is (and the tables don't count), but it isn't enforced. To the best of my knowledge, it's a legacy of the days of juke joints and such.

props for working in a Christmas Story reference! By adult language I simply meant not having to watch what the discussion is about or the occasional use of certain words. I agree there shouldnt be a need to curse like a sailor but in the end, its a bar, its intended and specifically there for adults over the age of 21 to consume alcohol which does tend to create an atmosphere not fitting for an 8 year old to eat their cheeseburger. @PhotoDave219 said it perfectly, its akin to a person having a drink at a daycare center. If a parent chooses to use the bar as a means to bypass waiting for a table, they should not expect the atmosphere of the bar to adapt to what they consider acceptable for their child to be around.

Its Disney... These rules went flying the same way the rules about dressing properly (in California Grill and other fancy restaurants) went.
Dress code violators drive me nuts. Im not talking about a guy who is wearing above the knee shorts with loafers and a collared shirt at Yachtsman, that is understandable on a 75 degree evening in Orlando. Im talking about the family walking into Yachtsman with swimming trunks and t shirts and the kids playing games on their ipads at full volume. The lack of class AND respect for others and the establishment is just bad form.

I just made that same point on another thread. That's exactly what I encountered the last time I was at California Grill. It's not hard to make yourself look presentable. I should never feel overdressed in a sundress at a restaurant where you drop hundreds of dollars on dinner. Don't get me started on the behavior of the kids...

Its the mindset of guests nowadays. Disney has allowed it and the guests feel entitled to do whatever they want simply because they are paying a high price. They could care less that the couple next to them may be celebrating an Anniversary or simply trying to have a pleasant meal in an environment meant to be upscale. Call me a snob, but Id like my wife and I to enjoy a nice bottle of wine and the spectacular views from California Grill without having to see a guy in cargo shorts and a star wars t shirt standing in front of the window taking pictures (with the flash on).:banghead:

Guilty! I brought my 5yo daughter to her first Eagles game and now every time she sees a Cowboys fan she kicks them in the shin.
