A Spirited Dirty Dozen ...

Oh, and this is the only megathread.

No, my watch list first page has 9 threads with over a thousand posts each.. many of which are just 'whatever falls into the bucket..' the guardians threads, the DHS thread, the parade threads, the TSL thread, etc etc. Really has cramped my interest in trying to keep up.

They have to go through Anti-Trust which already regrets the comcast/NBCUniversal deal and actually get the funding as they only have around 5 Billion in cash due to buying Direct-TV which will put them 80 billion in the red.
Buying a company like TW with that much debt is nuts. Variety published a good piece today taking a mostly critical eye at the deal bringing up the issues you raised and others.

I'm pretty stunned this is moving forward. Feels like a bad use of AT&T's cash. Still seems like Disney would make a move to further diversify their revenue stream as a knee jerk reaction to this.

Can't disagree with the others, but the MSEP thread has pretty much stayed on the night parade topic.

I think you'll find they actually have $120 b-b-BILLION in d-d-debt.:jawdrop::mad: I pray Anti-Trust stops this merger in its tracks. It's irresponsible and dangerous, especially for a company so critical to U.S. tech infrastructure.

It seems all the more reason in the world NOT to. Reminds me of when when NFL Free Agency opens up.

Some teams jump in head first and overpay. Others stay on the sidelines, then fill their needs on the cheap, sometimes picking up the very same assets the overpaying teams had to get rid of to stay under the cap.

If $DIS is smart, they'll stay on the sidelines and let everyone else pay stupid money for big name acquisitions. Since shareholders will PUNISH any company that dares either cutting the divvy or offering new shares, companies that don't want to (or can't) add to their debt load may have to sell assets to raise cash - sometimes at distressed prices...

That would require him to actually DO SOMETHING for himself, which we know people nowadays can't be bothered to do.
How exactly does a non-moderator make people not turn more and more threads into an anything goes thread?

These then stop opening it!

My goodness. Some of you need a nanny to curate everything just for you.

If all you want is to read things that user says, then use the site features to be alerted to his posts.
Desiring some semblance of threads being on topic has nothing to do with nannying. There are places here to discuss video games and what not.

Perhaps one should not try to make people do anything on a website they do not own, for starters.

There are several ways to take personal responsibility for your forum experience with many customization options, including the ignore feature, as well as taking the bull by the horn and posting things you feel are relevant and directing the conversation in a way you feel is constructive.

Or...you can further derail things by complaining, I guess, if that is what makes you feel better.

Agreed. There is still a lot we don't know about this whole unit. But it feels like Nintendo may be onto something, it looks like they took a look at their hardcore older 3DS/Wii U audience and made a console for them. That is a big enough piece of the pie to sustain Nintendo for awhile.

Doesn't look like the Switch tablet has a camera though...so that seems like a missed opportunity...unless there is another handheld coming from Nintendo as well.
They could just sell a separate "addon". Just like they did with the Wii emote variants.
At least Nintendo usually keeps costs low and doesn't shove unnecessary stuff bundled (hint.. Microsoft's camera and motion tech)

Probably the same thing I am.

The Wii had some fantastic titles - folks only seem to remember the shovel ware, but Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were better than anything that came out on the Wii U.

Nintendo seemingly gave up on the Wii U from year two on. No Metroid. No Zelda (they are only doing a co-release with the Swith version because they pretty much have to as they advertised it as a Wii U game for so long). No Animal Crossing (on the one system it would have been perfect for - instead they throw a shovel ware Amiibo game out and dozens of Amiibos for it - which are $4-5 on Amazon right now btw).

And the franchises they did do, were lackluster. They took the entire basis of Mario Party (a virtual board game) away. Mario Kart was good, you can't screw that up (which is why they are going to ask folks to buy it again). Smash Bros got too complex for its own good and online was a shadow of what it could have been. Star Fox was a dud. They tried to make A-list titles out of glorified DS games like Toad and DK puzzle games. Even the convoluted nature of Super Mario Maker's online features made it feel lackluster. Mario 3D and NSMBW were ok but very little innovation. Paper Mario Color Splash is a 3DS game forced onto the Wii U.

It sounds like the person being quoted (who is also a 30 year Nintendo fan like me) - has the same mentality that I do. People my age game on comfortable furtinture viewed on large screens with surround sound systems - so the portable aspect is not a draw. The only point to getting this new system is to play the newest first party games (apparently, this doesn't even match XBOX One stats, so I don't care about third party watered down for a semi-portable). And since the direction they have taken with those first party games hasn't been great, I don't care about the gimmick - and my Wii U investment can't be carried over - I totally see where he is coming from.
I honestly feel that the Wiiu was a failed project akin to the Nintendo Virtual Boy.
Anyone remembers that thing?
