A Spirited Dirty Dozen ...

Curious to see how the upcoming ESPN streaming service could impact the Big12 Expansion as they reportefly balked at Expansion since they'd have to pay out an additional Pro Rata share for each new member. Suddenly their defense they're losing subscribers could vanish if they move to the streaming service in equal numbers.

I'm a little out of the loop on international parks but what is the expansion Bob mentioned that is underway at Shanghai?

Was it on the conference call that it was mentioned?

Toy Story is imminent, then Everest, Alice from Tokyo's plans and Marvel from Anaheim's.

On a different note, I can't believe they salvaged the quarter for P&R. Love all the mention of cost savings needed to do it. A positive is the opened SDL should make the following four quarters a breeze, even if it isn't making money it won't be sucking up remotely the same boatloads of capital that it has been.

Huge uptick in domestic spending too - I know @ParentsOf4 has been keeping an eye on that.

Yes in the call. Really Everest is planned seems surprising not sure why. Also I thought Alice plans from Tokyo were delayed or at least they weren't on the OLC plans.

A look at the email Bob Iger sent to all Disney Employees after today's earnings report.

Dear Fellow Employee,

Today was a great day for the Company, as we announced third quarter adjusted earnings per share that were 12% above last year, marking our 12th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth.

Our Studio led the way once again, delivering 62% growth in operating income year-over-year. Our Studio is having a tremendous year both creatively and commercially, with great successes from Pixar, Marvel, Disney Animation, and Disney live action. Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War; Disney Animation’s Zootopia, and Disney’s The Jungle Book are the world’s three biggest movies of the year so far– earning critical acclaim and averaging more than $1 billion each in global box office – and Pixar’s Finding Dory is the #1 domestic release of 2016. The Studio’s slate of upcoming releases looks very strong, too.

Today we also announced an important strategic investment, acquiring a 33% stake in a technology platform called BAMTech, which provides Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League with a robust means of delivering live, streamed sports on a direct-to-consumer basis. We have an option to acquire majority ownership in the future, which will enable ESPN, and other Disney media businesses, to reach more people in more modern, compelling ways.

If you’d like to know more about our investment in BAMTech or our performance in the third quarter, you can read our press releases or listen to a replay of this afternoon’s earnings call by clicking here.

This has been a year of many highlights, including the opening of Shanghai Disney Resort in June, ESPN’s coverage of one of the most exciting NBA Finals in history, and excellent coverage by ABC News of one of the most interesting presidential elections we’ve ever witnessed.

I hope you are enjoying your summer and I thank you all for your numerous contributions to this performance.

Best,

Bob
Its galling he doesn't say "Cast Member" in his salutation

Yes delayed in Tokyo as @Rteetz said. I really don't know a timeline for any of this, but it sounds like as long as attendance stays afloat like it has been it will be a sooner than later necessity.

Everest (and Toy Story) has been planned as the first phase of expansion going back 5+ years now. It doesn't make a ton of sense as of this moment, but it certainly did 5 years ago. SDL is a snapshot of Disney before Frozen, Marvel and Star Wars (even if they stuck in all three last minute). Everest is the last snapshot to be developed.

IMO it would highly compliment the current line up.

Makes you wonder why the huge decline in movie attendance despite skyrocketing population.
I guess people are just BORED and thinking "not worth it" when they have a giant cinema sized TV at home.

Perhaps the majority of this summer's movies simply SUCK and are not worth watching. Pets vs Ghostbusters, Pets made bank, Ghostbusters bankruptcy but the creative Bankruptcy led to the financial bankruptcy of the film.

Lets all face facts - the first Ghostbusters wasnt all that great of a movie. The 3 comedic geniuses and the catchy song made it worthwhile.

No the first two Ghostbusters were NOT great movies they were cheap throwaway summer FUN with as you note with a great song. And it was the interplay of the characters which made them memorable.

The current incarnation of Ghostbusters was anything BUT fun, It was a cheap ripoff of the original with a sex reversal for the key players but the comedy team was C-List not A-List as it was in the original,
