Jack Wrather did it before, why could Disney do the same.

Well aware of the history. I don't see them tearing them down just to fit better with the new resort. They are still distinctly two separate resorts.

Of course not. Disney has left billions of dollars on the table because they haven’t substantially increased their room stock as everyone else in Anaheim has over the past ten years. Why change now?

Hotels generate more revenue and profits than surface parking lots.
They are expanding their room stock with this new hotel and since its a four diamond it will certainly cost at least $600 a night to stay there.

But how much has Disney given up by not building over time? It’s not enough and placing the new parking structures where they are will make it harder to build more rooms on property.

I feel Disney didn't have much of a choice here. Eastern Gateway wasn't happening so they needed a quick plan to add parking before Star Wars opens. The hotel was originally not supposed to go here when first announced. Disneyland of course doesn't have the blessing of size.

A succession of Disneyland presidents sat on the parking garage for the Pumbaa lot. They kicked it down the road, until they couldn’t. The present parking hell is their creation. Then they compounded it with the half assed Eastern Gateway plan that didn’t have a peoplemover or moving sidewalk component and didn’t take opposition from the Harbor St businesses into consideration. They could have had a parking structure under construction right now, ready for Galaxy’s Edge, if they hadn’t screwed up. This new plan is a band aid on a flesh wound.

Westcot will never happen, but Disney needs to go back to the ‘91 Master Plan and use the property it does own as effectively as possible. It’s no mistake that the smallest Disney resort, HKDL, has the best master planning.

I don't see exactly how anything of significance is lost by this? The only true hotel expansion space being lost is Pinocchio, which is a bit of a hike.

The Pumba lot in theory is now hotel expansion room. It's technically much more centralized than Pinocchio would be. Especially in light of where the next gate would go.

Trying to keep up with DL projects on these forums is such a pain. I think I'm caught up on discussion on the new development then I find out there's another group of people discussing it on a defunct Spirit thread in the WDW boards?? What's up with that? It's a shame because WDWMagic is the best place for DL discussion, but you all make it so difficult to keep track of things. Here's a helpful link:

Deep in the American desert, a test track for Universal’s Donkey Kong ride has been built.

These were posted on and subsequently taken down from Twitter.

This explains the ride system.

I was very skeptical of the Nintendo expansion when it was announced, it seemed like a project that would be used to take Screenz(!) to a whole new level, and not much more. But this actually looks very promising.
