A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

Hey, @wdwmagic and/or @The Mom, can we close this thread? I no longer have time or desire to participate on a regular basis and it is going off in many crazy directions that don't at all reflect on anything remotely about themed entertainment at this point.

Besides, if people want to talk about Harvey Weinstein being the pig that he is (and was widely known to be), then it really is only fitting to discuss the p-grabber in chief and you don't really want that, do you?

To my friends here, I will still be a member and drop in when and where I can. But no more long threads full of news and info (that winds up buried in ... garbage). Just like EPCOT Center and our democracy, they are dead, and I am not into corpses.
Thank you for your informative posts Spirit and it's sad to hear you won't be around as much going forward. I'm happy to hear that you will still be dropping in from time to time though...so at least it's not all bad news.

Some members are still taking part in this thread, so I don’t wish to cut them off by closing it.
I think most of us are participating because we're passing the time waiting for @WDW1974 to finish telling us what he teased at the beginning of the thread about DLR and other news from D23. If he's not going to do that here, we can let the thread die.

We could just make our own catch-all thread for what's going on in TWDC. Spirit doesn't contribute much once these threads get going anyway, and when he does it's usually complaining that posts are off-topic from his off-topic discussion. :D
I like the idea of a catch all thread that allows the conversations to meander like normal conversations tend to do. For example, I know that I thought it was OK to talk about Star Trek in here because Spirit had at one point mentioned wanting to see the new Trek. I've talked about Star Wars because he brings up Star Wars in a lot in his posts, etc. But I do understand his frustration with his posts getting buried while he is away. So, some kind of catch all thread where news and rumors start conversations that takes place, but where meandering is allowed (and actually expected) to occur would be a welcome addition to the forum (at least in my book).

Sounds like a chit chat thread...

You'll miss Spirit calling your posts that bury his posts 'garbage'?
Yes! That's half the fun!

Like sneaking into a cranky neighbour's yard to get your ball back after it goes over the fence.

Yes sir, did not know that existed. Maybe it should be pinned.

This is perfect. I also had no idea it existed. It could use a pin.

The problem with a dumping ground thread is that there are, almost most of the time, a dedicated thread in existence for the same topics that appear in the dumping ground thread.

If fact, there are a few posters here who quite routinely, when they add info to a dedicated thread, double-post it here... for what reason, I don't know. (One is a notorious triple-poster.) That creates a continuous explosion of tangents.

Just start a few threads such as:
  • "What Are They Raising Prices On Now?
  • "Disney Corporate Leaders and Why They Suck";
  • "The Evils of Stock Buy-Backs";
  • "The Good Ol' Days Were Perfect and Now Everything Sucks"

And this type of thread become superfluous.

And there is a whole section of the forums for non-Disney related discussions.

Catch-all threads fill a very important role on a forum. They allow conversations to flow naturally without having to make an entire thread just because you started talking about something else. If not for the catch-all thread, we'd see conversations going off tangent all the time. Catch all threads are very healthy for a forum and allow members of a shared interest (in our case WDW) to converse freely about WDW and other little things that may pop up during conversation.

"Blaming the victim" means blaming the person who was the victim of a crime for the crime happening. Stuff like "well, you wore a tight dress and danced sexy with him so you deserved it". I absolutely, 100% do not blame the victim for what happened to them.

What I do find fault with is that after, for decades, she played along and continued to praise the man, her "Uncle Harvey", from this woman who shares every detail of her life with the press and public ("this is how poop is supposed to be shaped!"), who had a platform that almost no woman (or man) could ever imagine having, a powerful family behind her, was wealthy enough before she was born to never have to work a day in her life if she hadn't wanted to, who helped enable him to hurt so many other people.

I understand what folks are saying. I truly do. But there are exceptions to every rule - and she is one of them. I mean, I don't know how many are old enough to remember, or paid attention enough, but there were many years where there wasn't a single month she wasn't on some magazine cover, or on some TV show telling everyone else how to live their lives just like her and all this woman power stuff that was nonsense, we now know. I actually have been on her side for a long time - but this just proves what the critics have been saying for so long is true - she is so self-absorbed, that even with her unique platform, she not only didn't do the right thing in exposing what he was doing - she built him up more.
I think her celebrity only validates the reasons even more. As society has become more used to women in power and on a closer footing as equals, a psychological barrier has grown. As noted in a recent article I read about women in the workplace, misconduct has grown more prevalent recently because these women who are now viewed as equals or are senior members of a staff are fearful to come forward. It's the "If I am truly in charge how could this happen to me", or "what am I lacking that allowed this to happen" mentality. Her status only exacerbates the situation.

I might start a gaming industry thread down in Chit Chat. A lot of good topics to cover.

I agree. It allows someone like me to catch up on current news and conversation without following a hundred threads. I can do maybe one or two but that's it.
