A Florida-based film for Soarin'.....ever happening?

Being a Floridian, I can honestly say: why the heck would WDI waste money on a film of Florida.

First off, Florida is flat. Nothing natural to showcase except beaches which are already showcased.

Second off, we're in Florida. Let's not make the same msitake DCA made. Keep it exotic.

I'd love to fly over the Forbidden City, Japanese ritual buildings, Sydney Opera House, Paris at night, Bahamas crystal clear beaches... oh the places it could go!

I wouldn't say DCA made a mistake. We have an American pavilion in America what's the difference.

That's so vague though. The American pavillion represents an old America we don't see today in a place very far from Florida.

Ok but you can still see these type of buildings in the northeast. Along with the fact the film shows all of our history not just the 1700's.

I agree that having a film based on 'Soarin' Over the Land' ( World..etc.)' would be excellent. It would add interest, and also tie into the international vibe that is already present at EPCOT.

Also, it would be appealing to visitors both nationally, and internationally i think to show ariel clips from various destinations.( look Ma, we flew over home!). It could be a literal 'round the world flight in 3 minutes. The sensory effects could be kept and perhaps additonal elements could be added for various scenes. Think of it - moist air over London, hot air over India, keep the pine and ocean scents for related scenes...etc. It could work nicely...plus, for a added sly joke, the closing shot is views from above WDW itself...thus another 'World' we soared over.

I like the current film. No hurry to see it go, but i can completely see how it could be changed to a different theme.

I remember a fan made video a few years back that used aerial footage of different parts of Florida that was really well done. I could see a Florida film working, but I'd prefer one that goes across the US.

I think a worldwide film would be too broad. There'd be so many scenes to choose from it'd be hard to narrow it down to a reasonable length

I'd like to see a version with all of the countries in the World Showcase. I think that would be very fitting for an EPCOT version of Soarin. But, I also like it just the way it is. They need to add a gift shop with candles of the scents though!

I agree. This is my first choice as well. I also like the current film very much. There are such diverse areas in the state of CA: beaches, mountains, canyons, rivers, desert, etc, etc. As others have already said, Florida just doesn't have enough different kinds of views to improve on the current film.

What I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned yet is flying only over each of the cities/states that house Disney parks/resorts (i.e. FL, CA, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai). I'm not saying flying over only the parks, but the hot spots for those areas and possibly ending at the MK. I just think they should keep some kind of Disney flare on it rather than using the East Coast, the entire world, etc.

I don't know about others, but my personal feeling after watching the fan-made version is...... I'm underwhelmed. No offense to the person who put the work in to that video, but it's really not even close to as exhilarating as the Disney California version. Almost everything is water or buildings. There's not much diversity in the video.

That's just my opinion though. I know not everyone will agree with me.

While rumors of a new Soarin' film seem awesome...I personally would love to see it over all of the Epcot countries and finishing over Illuminations...it's very difficult for this to be considered any time soon for a couple reasons...

For about five and a half years now, Soarin' sees an average wait of about an hour from park open to close every single day of the year, making it hard for there to be any refurb to be easily planned out. Also, many of the images you see in Soarin' are very unique to the film, and can most likely never be shot by anyone else again. I'm sure it took Disney a lot of time and money to gain all of the permits and clearance to take film crews through the many areas they went through. For example, the Thunderbird squadron you see in the Anza-Borrego scene were flying together for the last time together. Ultimately it's a film that will be around for many years to come for now.

I think a 'over the world' theme would be better then just a FL theme...so we agree there.

:D

Another thing i think everyone here will agree with -

They can do whatever they want with the film, just DO NOT CHANGE THE SOUNDTRACK !

The Soarin' theme music RULES!

I really want to see it changed to Soarin over the World, where the main focus can be flying over Earth's natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, rainforrests, mountains, niagra falls, etc. That would be amazing, and enforce the theme of the land pavillion also.

And Soarin' Over California shows the whole state, not just Anaheim.

Okay? So? What does that have to do with Florida or AA? A large portion of the film is very close to Anaheim... not very exotic.

Yes, and if they did a Soarin over whatever then those areas of the world would exist too. It really doesn't make sense

And I'm not arguing it doesn't show history :brick:

I've gotta say I was skeptical of a Soarin Over Florida (and I still think World video would be better), after watching that video I'm impressed. I kinda figured it would focus on places like Miami, the Everglades, Kennedy Space Center, Orlando and maybe Tampa, but they threw in the Bok Tower in Lake Wales and that kinda shocked me. If they could work in more of the whole state it might be pretty decent. Well-done though... however, a Soarin Over the World would be better.

A large portion? Only 1 scene is close to Aneheim. The rest are at least 2 hours away so I don't understand.

But you say that it would be wrong to do a theme on a theme which you are in. I don't think that. Once again we have an American Pavilion in America. Soarin' Over Florida wouldn't be bad. Disney's Hilton Head Island is themed to a Hilton Head fishing lodge is and it's in Hilton Head and is popular I don't understand the problem?

The only upgrade in talks for Soarin' at WDW is an upgrade to digital IMAX projector. The attraction is too popular for TDO to mess with. When you have a hit why change it?
