I cannot think of a bigger waste of money. A thousand dollars (after taxes) for 1 night in a lagoon NON-theme park view room at a 40 year old hotel. That's during holiday season. But even during the dead season of September you will pay $790 after taxes, again for a standard non-theme park view room.

Seriously, you could stay at the Wilderness Lodge and with the savings eat at Victoria and Alberts every night of your stay. Or you could stay at, say, Coronado Springs and basically have everyone's tickets and meals paid for. And those are two very fine hotels.

Christmas week is also only $750, not 995 for a standard view. A Theme park view is even less than $995.

Expensive? Sure, but there's plenty people that have no problem with it.

Your math is off. A standard garden view room at peak holiday season is $665 pre-tax, $745 post 12.5% tax. A theme park view room at peak holiday season is $857 pre-tax, $964 post (yes, almost $1,000 but for theme park view, not standard).

During September, a standard garden view room is $422 pre-tax, $475 post. Theme park $570 pre-tax, $641 post.

AGREE that these rates are outrageous. And most people do not pay the rack rate. However, there are folks who do pay rack rate and this is the reason Disney can charge what they do. If they didn't fill the rooms, rates would go down.

Lagoon View same night (I just picked a random day in early Sept.) $596...yes expensive but still a very nice place to stay...and for us we prefer the Wilderness Lodge...but then again we often stay off-site as well in some very nice resorts for much, much less.

Where are you getting that price from? The official WDW website lists a Standard View for $748/night including tax for Christmas week. Maybe the price includes theme park tickets?

Don't get me wrong, WDW resort prices are insane. Even Uni's most expensive hotel, Portofino, starts at $492/night (with tax) for Christmas week and that's a crazy price for a theme park hotel. But the Poly's another 50% on top of that and at least Portofino's rate includes unlimited fast passes, incredibly valuable for Orlando's busiest week. When you look at WDW prices, they are just insane.

I suspect the quote included theme park tickets, something WDW automatically includes when asking for a quote.

I get the point of the thread. In this world that is a drop in the bucket to a lot of people. Not for us I would agree there are better ways to spend my money in Disney!! Which, I believe, is your point!
