$995 for 1 night at the Polynesian

If I had the cash to spend a thousand dollars on a hotel room, I'd just spend the extra money for one of the signature suites at the Disneyland Hotel, specifically the Mickey Mouse Penthouse or the Adventureland Suite. Now THOSE are some rooms.

I stayed at the Poly this past September, we had the 30% off rack rate and a standard view came to around 325$ a night. Having that said I thought it was a rip off and not worth the $$ at all! Yes being on the monorail was great but that's only to get to MK and Epcot. We had to bus it everywhere else anyway, plus I thought the resort was run down and by no means on a deluxe level. I do know that the long houses are in the middle of a refurb right now, but when we were there it definitely needed it! I was not impressed at all. Being on the monorail and the pretty lobby is this hotels only saving grace.

And that amount of money is why we stay at POP, get the deluxe meal package and all out ticket days for two weeks, as opposed to staying at the Poly for less than a week with no add ons. Some people have money to burn, and that is cool. But I can tell you, we have just as good a time spending under $5000 for a total 2 week vacation, than some people have spending over $10,000.

Anything over $100 a night for a room on Disney property is a waste. You are there to shower and sleep. You may get a great view and be close to a park, but whoop tee doo.

Depends on what you want your experience to be I guess..I wont stay at All Stars...PoP or likely Art of Animation..its a personal preference..we prefer the Boardwalk..I'll pay the extra money for a room that is much more comfortable there is a nigh and day difference in the beds..and what time I do sleep I want to be comfortable.I enjoy sitting on the balcony early morning/late at night overlooking the lagoon...Deluxe properties are generally much quieter than even Mods at times much less somewhere like Allstars..in the end it comes down what your "norm" is for a Disney vacation..I've stayed at most properties excluding the values in my lifetime and feel truly lucky to be able to visit the world as much as we do..In case folks forgot..Disney is quite expensive..but then again where else can you lock in a reservation 18 months in advance and pay off the trip before you go..regardless of which type of resort you choose..Disney has done a good job of affording folks oppertunities to attend

The most affordable way to stay at a WDW Deluxe Resort is by renting DVC points. Even at $14/point (the high end of the market), a Studio at the Boardwalk for the popular Food & Wine Festival costs as little as $156/night (and there's no tax to pay). This alone gives you some idea of how overpriced WDW rooms are.

The downside is that you have to find someone renting points and you have to be willing to commit well in advance (the room has to be reserved 11 months out) with little chance for a refund if you cancel.

There are plenty of people who can and do pay that much for rooms. I don't think they're dumb or begrudge them their wealth. They want to be in the bubble - more power to them.

But you can stay somewhere SO much nicer, with better service, for SO much less.

I wouldn't stay there. Not in one room. Not for that amount. Nope!
We like to stay at Disney resorts...it is a fun and relaxing experience, especially now that we spend more time at the resorts than in the parks...but we also like to stay off site as well. Last year we got The Peabody on a priceline bid for less than $100 per night...Pop at the time was around $130... No comparison between Peabody and Pop...now after we checked out of Peabody we went to WL and loved it, but paid much more than Peabody, and it was nowhere near as luxurious as Peabody..but it was worth it to us because we wanted to stay at Disney...we liked them both in different ways.

I've read that, but I don't think it answers my question. If someone books for a period where there are no promotions, they're paying full price. AFAICT, this means a LOT of people who post here.
If you book during off peak seasons you have already gotten a discount from peak season rate...in effect a seasonal discount from peak season rates.

Now that you point it out, I suppose there are plenty of people who book at full rack rate...not something we can afford to do.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure I shouldn't have somehow received a discount that I didn't when I booked. Still hoping for a free dining pin, or for free dining to be opened to general public for october, of course... :)

True .. ever since I was a kid a watned to stay at Contemp.. Had some friends going so we went on a stayed at POP.. cked in .. lost our luggage ...room seemed like they just let off two lysol bombs (we had to actully prop the door open to breathe) and to top it off my young daughter found two "pills" on the floor in the room. We left and went to Contemp - never looked back ... was it expensive ? Yes but well worth it to me ... fireworks everynight, train whistle to wake me up in the morning and the beds and sheets .. nice .. but again to each his own..

They are over priced, but if can get to do it at least once, it's worth just to see the differences. Well have been lucky to stay agGF and Poly, both great places, but not without discounts would I do it. The views are worth it, and IT love the monorail.
