6/25/13 - The Day Spectro Died... Sorry guys..

I don't want to believe this. I fell in love with the music from SpectroMagic on my honeymoon in 2002, having previously only experienced the Electrical Parade. I think EP is charming and cute, and it brings back fond childhood memories, but Spectro was just spectacular and grand.

Honestly though, I don't think it would be that hard to overlay Spectro onto EP's floats. A few adjustments here and there and we'd have an all new hybrid show.

In this case he is mistaken though that not all floats remain intact. At least several were trashed. have yet to hear which ones or all.

And you are correct, Ricky was the one propagating the rumor and Tom was more or less saying it was nonsense.

I generally don't follow Tom but in this case there's nothing Yell at him about. I really don't see the need of why we brought him into this conversation anyways.

Wasn't Brigante going on the offensive a couple days ago saying the newest Star Wars expansion rumors were bunk? After he made such a big deal about May the 4th?

I'm not sure, I generally don't pay attention to him either. I know I was asking for more sourcing on them & after some digging, I believe them to be true.

Sad news, but I can't say I'm surprised. I think what saddens me most is that, to me, SpectroMagic was our parade (our's being WDW's) as opposed to MSEP which I've always felt was Disneyland's parade. I'll keep hoping we get a Dreamlights-style Spectro in the future, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Just another fine example of the brilliance found at TDO. Lets store a perfectly good parade for two years in a tent with the front and back flaps open next to dry dock and see what happens. Good freakin grief, unbelievable.

Goodbye Spectro you will forever be missed. It holds a special place in my heart as I was part or the re opening cast on April 1,2001

Is that when Roger was swapped out for Genie? Or was it before/after? Thanks

Sad to hear no more Spectromagic parade :( My favorite parade. Everytime I go to WDW I check cd's to see what music they have available, and purchased the Spectromagic cd about 2 years ago so so glad I did.

Over the nearly 60 since Disneyland opened, how many different parades have come about only to be killed off later. No one seemed to care about that. In fact the battle cry has been "We need a new Parade" for some time now.
There is a need for a new parade.

You cannot have both...a new parade and an old parade.
This is true that you cannot have both at once. But you could want an old parade back (Spectro) while waiting for a new one to come forth. IMO (and it would seem the majority opionion), Spectro was the better parade. But you are right. It is a but subjective

MSEP was recently upgraded to include LDS lighting, so Disney execs may not be the brightest light on the float, but they are also greedy and they will choose the parade that is the most popular. This is the second time that MSEP has been in MK. There must be a reason.
If rumor is truth, MSEP was brought to WDW not really because it was most popular but mainly because they didnt have much of an alternative. MSEP was in better shape than Spectro because it was better cared for out west. Spectro needed to go down for a refurb... Or as the case would have it, instead it was left to rot. And they didnt want to spend money on a new parade. Hence, we got MSEP. A brand "new" parade that really wasnt. Popularity didnt have much to do with it.

I suspect it's the same grouping that feels that CoP, Tiki Room, and Country Bears should be flushed down the toilet because it's boring, or tired or irrelevant or not popular.
I find your inferences here to be silly. Because I didnt find MSEP very impressive, I'm suddenly in the same group that wants those things all to go away? I admittedly do not get the appeal of CoP, and I would truthfully not be sad if it were replaced. But people enjoy it and the likelihood Disney would replace it with anything worthwhile if it were to go is low, so I say keep it by all means. And I would be very sad to see the others go. But MSEP is a whole different animal than these. Those rides have been present forever. MSEP has not (at least not at WDW). For the majority, I would say it doesn't have quite the same nostalgic pull as Spectro actually does. So I would say people wanting it gone is quite different from if someone wanted those rides gone.

I do not know what Disney is planning to do in the future. Not have any night parade? Anything is possible and that would be too bad. I don't like parades, but, I know a lot of people do, so I have to guess that Disney is either going to invest refurbishing money in a new parade or just wait until MSEP falls off it's wheels and the parade is replaced with a light show on the castle.
Let us hope they invest (in cleaning up MSEP or with a new parade) but their pattern right now would suggest they lean on the side of letting it go til it dies without improvement

Mentioned often in this scenario is that the floats were infested with bugs and rotting away. Question, since MSEP is older then Spectro, by quite a few years, why isn't it gone already.
Left to rot in an open shed for several years rather than somewhere environment controlled will do that to floats... MSEP was better taken care of.

I think it a way to a handy excuse for demolition of something that they just didn't want back again.
There is probably some truth to this. If you dont want it, let it go to crap to the point you cant fix it.

Just checked out central shops. Didn't see anything. No floats. No dumpsters beyond the normal ones. Nothing that looked like parade float debris.

Jury is still out on this for me.

I'm not reading through all of this thread but I'll be the one with this viewpoint.

SpectroMagic was an odd parade! Lots of spinning fish, dragonflies and spinny glowing people with glowing head gear. Not very Disney feeling until the orgasmic overflow of characters in the last two minutes. I watched the YouTube last performance and didn't shed a tear. I'm ready for change.

And oh yea, WDW management sucks in how they handle change and disrespect the past.
