5 Days at Disney World, 12 Days to Plan, 3 Resorts and 1 Broken Leg

When – Saturday November 17th- Thursday, November 22, 2012

Where – Animal Kingdom Lodge, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs

Who – Just the 4 of us this time! Myself, Stephen my hubby, Chase 17 and Ally 15. Since it was just the four of us, I somehow neglected to get a single photo of us together! I think there are only three of them with myself even in them! So here we are in parts.

Stephen and I – Self portrait at Dole Whip

Why – Well because we wanted to of course. :D But why Thanksgiving week, one of the most crowded weeks there is? Well there were several reasons. For one, it’s tough to find a time to go these days that works for all 4 of us. I can go anytime, of course, and I do! :) But the teenagers and hard working hubby are harder. We had rooms booked for President’s Day weekend, but the kids had a lot of conflicts. Also, we had nothing to do for Thanksgiving. About 12 days before we left, I got an airfare alert for $176 flights to Orlando.

So what do you do when you don’t have anything to do for Thanksgiving and you can fly to Orlando cheaply? You go visit the mouse of course!! We go enough that the crowds don’t bother us much, so it seemed like the perfect solution.

The kids were more than game, and Stephen cleared it with his work. We bought the tickets and set to work trying to find somewhere we could use our DVC points and use about the same amount of points as we had planned to use in February. As expected, we didn’t have a lot of options, but that was no biggie either. Just happy to be going!

We ended up with the first night at Kidani in a savannah view studio. The next two nights were, get this, in a grand villa (yes for four of us :p ) at Old Key West, then two nights in a studio at Saratoga Springs. This would be an adventure!

Of course that was just the beginning. About 9 days before we left Ally was at basketball tryouts and rolled her ankle. Her ankle was huge when I picked her up, but she’d done something similar at volleyball tryouts and it was just sprained then. I assumed that was the case here, but we went to the doc just in case. When he told us there was a fracture, I was shocked! My first thoughts were sadness that she probably wouldn’t make varsity since she only went to one day of tryouts, and my second thought was how sad her volleyball coach was going to be when we told her that Ally wouldn’t be at the last volleyball tournament of the season in two days. It didn’t hit me until we were in the car going home that we were going to Disney in 9 days.

I screamed – “Oh no!! We’re going to Disney World!!” That may have been the first time I’ve used “Oh no” and “we’re going to Disney” in the same sentence. Ally immediately started clamoring for an electric scooter which seemed like a bad idea for too many reasons to list here. :)

She had a walking cast, but there was no way she was up for the amount of walking that Disney entails, so we were looking at our first trip to Disney with a GAC card and a wheel chair! This should be an experience.

Oh, and if you were wondering, Ally did make varsity. All five foot zero of her. And she’s a freshman! She’s out for a few weeks, but thankfully basketball season is long. Go Ally, go Ally…go go go Ally…:D

Haha! Thank you, Briangwen7! I was very excited. :D

Thanks, Jess. :)

Thank you, BenSmith! :)

Awesome report Tammy!!!! We're going in a few weeks and I'm dying to get there!! Your trip report helped with my withdrawals!

One question- were DVC members and we wanted to check out the lounge at BLT and they wouldn't let us. They said we had to be actually *staying* there at the time. Any tips for this next trio? Doc they change their policy?

Thank you for reading, CinderellyKelly! :)

There was a policy change! DVC started letting all members staying on points up there. They've announced that you can through all of 2013. They excluded July 3-4 and December 30-31. :)

I know!! We took our Key to the World card and our DVC card. I think I read they can fill up on busy nights, but we didn't have any problems. We got there a little early just in case, and the lounge was very nice. :)

The top photo cracks me up! I love it when my kids do silly things like that - I actually have a photo of my two doing something similar with their cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve a few nights ago.

The second picture amazes me because only ONE of your three is on their phone! Ha! :) In my world, if we are stopped for even a millisecond, my husband whips out the phone asap and then he's lost in email, texts, etc.

I'm trying to remember what TR of yours it was I read last that Ally was in - I can't remember now (I do know I read at least part of your solo/ Travel agent DL trip) but what I was thinking was - Ally looks so grown up! And it can't have been that long since your last TR? Congrats to her on making the basketball team. Such a bummer about the injury, but it sounds like she'll be back in action in no time. So glad!

Also - love the arriving at the parks late thing! We finally reached that point last February - where we've been enough that we just enjoy WDW now. We no longer feel rushed to get to 'A, B, & C'. We just go where we want, when we want and even enjoy moving from point A to point B. It's so great!

I have to ask - are those light plastic chairs???? If they are, I must say I'm shocked! Maybe they need them to be light to move them for pressure washing or inclement weather or something? But we have a stack of chairs in on our back porch that we use for extra seating and that look just like these - we call them the 'party chairs' :D and consider them very disposable type things. Ha!

Well, I tried to multi quote, but I guess I am a new format failure. Sorry for all the posts! I wanted to comment on your Castle shots - beautiful!!!!

And this one is amazing too! I am so excited to eat here! Thanks for this one.

And now I must stop reading because I have to catch a 7:30 flight to Chicago. Brutal wake up time for this one! Can't wait to finish!

I love the top photo too! I can totally picture your kids doing that.

Haha! Well there were definitely times when I had to tell everyone to put down their phones. And if I was completely honest, I'd tell you that my husband asked me not to put multiple pictures of them on their phones in the report. :D He didn't want everyone thinking that's all we do. Lol. But it was hard because when we stopped, that's when the phones came out AND that's when I took pictures!

She got to play a little in the last game before Christmas. She was happy. Lots of physical therapy now, and this two week break was perfect. I think the last report she was in was the Fantasy pre-inaugural cruise.

Also - love the arriving at the parks late thing! We finally reached that point last February - where we've been enough that we just enjoy WDW now. We no longer feel rushed to get to 'A, B, & C'. We just go where we want, when we want and even enjoy moving from point A to point B. It's so great!

We are getting so much better about not rushing, although we usually still started early and then took a long afternoon break. You're absolutely right, enjoying is much better. :)

I think they were? I don't know if I ever touched them though. I want to say they were pretty sturdy and not too lightweight, but I see your point, lol.

I don't mind all the posts! It's easier to reply to! :)

I finished! Yay! What a fun trip. I totally forgot your son was a picky eater too. Love that shot of him & Ally on the bus - how sweet. I get to see glimpses of those days (heading my way) all the time now & I'm so excited!

Too funny that your husband is always picked! Maybe his military 'presence' makes him top pick for a guard/ knight/ person to put on stage? :)

Loved that Auburn shirt! Leading up to the big football game..... Sigh. :-D.

As always great photos! That one looking up at the castle dream lights & some of the resort pics are my favorites.

Posting from my phone so I hope this all makes sense and doesn't have too many typos! :). Thanks for another great TR!

He's so so picky!

I love these days of them together!

He is always picked!! There was some irony in this assignment though. :)

War Eagle!

Thank you for reading, Erin! :)

You take some incredible pictures! Enjoyed the trip report!

Thank you, Meggo! :)

I enjoyed your TR. My family is visiting during Presidents week and I have been really nervous about the crowds so it was nice to see all that you accomplished despite being there during a busy time.

Thank you for reading, KayFeb! You really can do a lot when it's crowded. Use Fastpass and eat at off times! :)

Just finished reading! Excellente, as always Tammy! It has been a dream of mine to fake a cast or something like that to be pushed around WDW, like Ally.. Then again it may be everyone's dream!

Seeing Samantha would have been cool for me too. I dig her shows and of course all of her Disney episodes.
I saw a "celebrity" at California Grill two years ago(when I proposed to Heather). Chase might like this story. From our table, I saw someone at the bar that looked like Kaka, from Brazil/Real Madrid. So I excused myself to the bath room and sure enough, it was him... So the whole after dinner/fireworks I super stalked him to try and get a pic or just to say hi... Wasnt able to though. He was there promoting sports at WWOS that week. But you seeing Sam Brown reminded me of that....
