20K Water poured into Little Mermaid

I looked at the overhead photo. The trees you speak of are a part of the attraction as they are meant to block the view of the backstage areas when viewing the lagoon. While I'm sure that some of the parking was used for purposes other than 20k, it probably was necessary to use when taking subs in/out of the dry dock area. In any case my point was they didn't add any additional space to the park they may have converted backstage and scenery space into restaurant and shop space but nothing was truly added.
The trees blocked nothing, there was no backstage area that was used for anything behind the trees. It was all wasted space. The parking area was not for 20K but for utilidor usage. The 20K subs were never pulled in out of the attraction dry dock except at the very end when the subs were to be destroyed.

Just admit it. The FLE was indeed an EXPANSION.

Is there any 20k references inside the attraction? Would have been cool if there were props from the old ride in Ariel's treasure room

I think there's rock-work with a Nautilus in it...I didn't see it this past week since it was dark when I got to see New Fantasyland during Not so Scary Night. I rode the ride twice, but wasn't looking for 20K references inside...I should have looked for a squid somewhere...

Not that it will make much difference to half of the posters in here, but the water did come from 20K. The person who collected it is a long time Imagineer, and big Disney fan.

I think that's awesome. I wish the Imagineer who had the foresight to collect the water could have been the person to pour it back. That would have been really cool. Thanks for the info. ;)

Look... No offense... But sometimes this whole "I know something you don't know" thing is ridiculous. I'm not pointing this directly at you... TONS of people do it on this board. And often over inane thoughts like this.

I get it when it's in regard to unannounced projects, etc... But does it have to remain "top secret" who kept some water from the lagoon? Would "Bob Smith" be fired if his name got out there? Hardly. In fact, I would imagine it could have been used as a PR coup by Disney to tell that story, if were actually true.

True or not, I read your post and found myself involuntarily "eye rolling". Thanks for sharing what vague information you felt you could with us "village folk".

Um, actually that was pointed directly at me. I didn't think this was a big enough story to warrant credit to the water bearer (and I wouldn't post someone's name without their consent). You can believe me or not, I was just stating a fact about the four pages of conjecture I had just read.

Then how about "I actually know who kept the water... It's a great story... I'll ask him if it's okay to tell". Something like that would be very interesting to hear about for many here, for many different reasons. How did they get it? When? Where did they keep it? How much did they take? Why did they keep it exactly? Etc, etc...

The post just came off unnecessarily cryptic, which is becoming all too common on this site... Especially when I'm quite certain a high percentage of the posts are BS. I'm not saying yours is... I don't know your posting history, and I'm not really too worried about it.

But surely you can see how the "look what I know and you guys don't!" mantra can get quite tiresome here. Like I said, I completely understand it at times, depending on the subject matter... But the level to which it has been taken here is just nuts.

If you only gave the info you did because you just didn't think it was of interest to people here, I can assure you that even if no one else cared, I would LOVE to hear the details of something like that (not surprising, based on my screen name!), and I bet I'm not alone! Hearing about an Imagineer that actually cares about the history and importance of the parks is always MORE than welcome, in my book. In fact, some would consider it a nice change of pace.

You also can't believe everything you read ....especially on the internet.

There's a port hole from one of the Nautilus ships in the Ariel's grotto scene of the ride.

Nice that's what I like to see. It would have been cool if her treasure room had like one of the divers helmets and maybe a few props from atlantis and the graveyard of lost ships. They could have also saved the mermaids and Sea Serpent and had them in the background of a scene but Disney just isn't that cool :/
